Before the Fairy type was revealed, Gardevoir had been a pure Psychic type. Both Pokémon excelled at Confusion and Teleport...
But compared with Alakazam's mastery of Psychic-type abilities, Gardevoir now had the Fairy type backing it up. It was hard to say which would come out on top.
"Alakazam, Calm Mind!"
"Gardevoir, Calm Mind!"
Both trainers opened with the same move, but their approaches diverged immediately afterward.
"Alakazam, Psychic Spoon!"
"Gardevoir, Misty Terrain!"
Psychic Spoon was Alakazam's signature move. It could drastically reduce an opponent's concentration, causing lapses in focus, missed attacks, and similar problems.
Misty Terrain did the exact opposite, granting Pokémon on the ground immunity to all status conditions.
"Alakazam, Confusion!" "Gardevoir, Draining Kiss!"

"Looks like it's time to get serious!" Veranica narrowed her eyes as an immense wave of psychic energy spread outward. She used her Hidden Power to establish a mental link with Alakazam.
Seeing this, Xiao Ran likewise released his Power of the Moon, which had mostly recovered, using the resonance between their energies to communicate swiftly with Gardevoir.
This was the greatest advantage the awakened had in Pokémon battles. Until now, however, he had never faced an opponent who warranted using it.
Only now, with the two Psychic-type Pokémon fighting so quickly
