After recalling Electabuzz, Cheng Xuewen did not lose heart. Instead, he sent out an early Elite Class Jolteon.
This was his third Pokémon, and it was Jolteon's evolution that had propelled him into the ranks of Elite Class Pokémon Trainers.
Jolteon only needed a Thunder Stone to evolve, which was why he had managed to get ahead of Wang Yunshu. Still, reaching Elite Class immediately after evolving was quite a surprise.
"Grrr!" The moment Jolteon appeared, it growled at the opposing Seismitoad, showing no fear whatsoever of its enormous size.
"Jolteon? It probably can't do much to Seismitoad either, can it?" Wang Yunshu asked with a frown. Jolteon's Electric-type moves were powerful, but they were useless against Seismitoad.
"Yeah, that should be about right in theory. But Jolteon is also very fast!" Xiao Ran said after a moment's thought.
Although Swift Swim boosted Seismitoad's speed, its natural speed was still too low. The boost made it fast, but not outrageously so. In that respect, it was different from Kingdra.
Seismitoad's base Speed stat was 74, so even with Swift Swim, it topped out at 148. Kingdra, however, started with a base Speed stat of 85 and could reach a terrifying 170 with the boost. That was a substantial gap.
Jolteon's own base Speed stat was already as high as 130, putting it fairly close to Seismitoad under Swift Swim. With Quick Attack and Agility added to the mix, dodging was still quite easy.
But if Jolteon were facing Kingdra, that would be another story. As the stats rose, the gap between them only grew larger.
Sure enough, Jolteon did not rush to attack Seismitoad when the battle began. Instead, it used its high speed to keep the opponent chasing it.
