In the end, the Demon disguised as an ordinary woman decided to leave for the time being.
With a swish, she drew the curtains shut again.
Turning around, she headed out of the room.
Well, she could hardly jump out the window in broad daylight. Wouldn't that tell everyone something was wrong with her?
"Oh no!"
Seeing the Demon's actions, Li Feng and the others felt their hearts sink.
This was one of the dangers faced by Investigators from the Investigation Department.
The Paranormal Entity Monsters and Demons they investigated weren't rigid, mechanical NPCs. Their actions could change at any moment, and they might even discover the Investigators.
When that happened, they would have no choice but to fight the Demon.
Who lived and who died ultimately depended on their individual strength.
"Captain, should we attack?"
Li Feng immediately looked at Yuan Chengfang, his left hand already resting on the Paranormal Entity mirror while his right reached toward his waist.
The moment Yuan Chengfang gave the order, he would attack without hesitation.
Beside him, Wu Cheng and Zhao Fei also reached toward their waists, their feet poised to move.
"Attack!"
Since the Demon was already suspicious, Yuan Chengfang had no reason to hesitate. She immediately gave the order.
The instant she finished speaking, Li Feng activated the Weird Mirror's ability.
Buzz!
The mirror trembled slightly. Ripples twisted across its surface, instantly forming a Mirror Passage.
At the same time, he drew his pistol with his right hand and fired at the Demon in the mirror without hesitation.
Bang!
"Aah!"
Never imagining that an attack could come from the Television, the completely unprepared Demon took Li Feng's shot square in the back.
Hiss!
A bloody hole appeared, wisps of smoke rising from it.
That was the damage caused by the demon-slaying effect of the Psychic Pistol's Psychic Bullet.
Meanwhile, a ball of light formed in Yuan Chengfang's hand, resembling a full moon in the sky.
On the other side, Wu Cheng and Zhao Fei, whose feet had already begun to move, abruptly caught on.
How had they forgotten? Li Feng's Weird Mirror could perform Mirror Traversal and launch attacks from a distance.
With such a safe way to attack, why had they thought of rushing over to fight the Demon head-on?
"Hmm..."
But they quickly recovered. Keeping their expressions unchanged, they pushed off and smoothly moved closer to Li Feng.
Just then, Yuan Chengfang turned her palm over, thrust it toward the mirror in Li Feng's left hand, then immediately pulled it back.
The ball of light in her hand slipped into the mirror, instantly becoming a Crescent Light Wave that slashed straight at the Demon’s back.
"Aah!"
An even more piercing scream rang out. The Demon was hurled away and slammed face-first onto the floor, her back nearly cleaved in two as bluish-purple blood poured out.
Bang! Bang!
Two more gunshots struck the Demon’s head, punching two bloody holes into it as two wisps of smoke rose.
After suffering these successive grievous wounds, the Demon’s body transformed. Her skin turned bluish-gray, and her hair became snow-white.
By now, however, the Demon, stunned by the relentless attacks, had gradually regained her senses.
"Aah! Psychic Bullets?! Human supernatural beings... I'll kill you! Die, die, die!"
Feeling the Psychic Bullets still searing her flesh from within, the Demon flew into a rage.
The next moment, she violently whipped her head toward the Television.
Hiss, hiss, hiss...
Countless silver strands lengthened in an instant, shooting toward the Television like the legendary Torrential Pear Blossom Needles.
"Disperse!"
At the sight, Li Feng immediately willed it.
The Mirror Passage instantly closed.
Clink, clink, clink...
Thud, thud, thud...
In an instant, the Television mounted on the wall was riddled with holes. As the Demon’s hair crisscrossed and tugged, it shattered into a heap of debris scattered across the floor.
"Tsk!"
Watching the view in the mirror suddenly become countless tiny images, Li Feng couldn't help clicking his tongue.
The Demon’s attack was certainly formidable.
But thinking about how the Demon attacked, Li Feng couldn't help feeling a little strange.
If he attacked with his hair, would people think he was a Demon too?
No, no. I'm an upright Investigator from the Investigation Department. How could I be a Demon...?
He silently shook his head, casting the odd thought out of his mind.
Through the Television’s shattered screen, he watched the Demon struggle to her feet and stagger toward the door.
With a thought from Li Feng, ripples spread across the mirror, and the view switched to the Television screen in the Living Room.
Bang, bang, bang...
Buzz! Whoosh!
The Mirror Passage opened, and Li Feng and the others unleashed a barrage of attacks.
But the Demon was now on guard, and Yuan Chengfang's attack only managed to sever her arm.
She dodged the attacks from Li Feng and the other two.
Even so, she was forced back into the Bedroom again.
With another thought, ripples spread across the mirror, revealing countless fragmented views.
But what did it matter if the views were fragmented?
Buzz!
The mirror passage opened.
Bang, bang, bang...
Even a full-grown living person could be pulled into a mirror. How could tiny Psychic Bullets fail to pass through shattered screen fragments of comparable size?
Hiss, hiss, hiss...
Faced with another sudden volley, the Demon willed her snow-white hair to extend and intertwine. Amid the whistling of countless fine strands cutting through the air, it instantly formed a white curtain.
Thud, thud, thud...
Clink, clink, clink...
Although the Bullets instantly pierced it and raised wisps of smoke, their power was greatly reduced. The Demon easily knocked them down with swipes of her sharp claws.
They left only three small black pits in her nails, hardly any damage at all.
Whoosh!
The strongest attack, however, still came from Yuan Chengfang.
A half-moon swept across, passing through countless mirror surfaces at once.
Swish!
Inside the Demon’s Bedroom, fingernail-sized crescents shot out of the countless shattered screen fragments almost simultaneously.
Hiss, hiss, hiss...
Thud, thud, thud...
Splitting the attack had weakened its power.
But the dense barrage instantly shredded the curtain formed from the Demon’s white hair, cutting wound after wound into her body.
Most of those wounds weren't fatal.
But there were simply too many of them to withstand.
In almost an instant, not a patch of skin on the Demon’s body remained intact. It was practically death by a thousand cuts.
"Gaaah!"
The Demon let out a piercing scream, flailing her hair and arm as she staggered backward. Only when she hit the wall did she finally stop.
After enduring that wave of attacks, the Demon glanced toward the Living Room again, then abruptly turned and charged at the window.
She had already been discovered. What was there left to worry about?
"Oh no, she's trying to escape!"
Watching the Demon move, Wu Cheng cried out in alarm.
Beside him, Yuan Chengfang and Zhao Fei also felt their hearts tighten.
If the Demon merely escaped, that would be one thing. What they feared was her wreaking havoc without restraint.
The casualties would be devastating.
Li Feng's expression also grew serious, but he wasn't overly worried. His thoughts simply raced.
The next moment, the mirror before him flashed, changing from countless fragmented images to a purple curtain.
Before Yuan Chengfang and the other two could grasp why Li Feng had switched to this view, they saw the curtain suddenly bulge outward.
Mustering every ounce of strength, the Demon hurled herself at the window.
She tore the curtain down in an instant and tumbled outward wrapped in it, without even feeling herself hit the glass.
Thump!
Then the Demon landed heavily and rolled into a depression before finally coming to a stop.
"Huh?"
The Demon abruptly realized something.
She had felt herself hit the curtain, so how could she not have felt herself hit the glass?
That made no sense.
Besides, the landing had felt wrong too. Why had it seemed as though she'd landed on a cushion?
The Demon pulled aside the curtain wrapped around her. Despite the blood blurring her eyes, she forced them wide open and looked out.
"Wh-what's going on?"
Wasn't this the very room she had just escaped through the window?
Debris littered the floor, along with countless fragments of the Television screen and the damage from the earlier attacks.
And the place where she had landed was the large bed where she'd been sleeping.
So hadn't she indeed landed on a cushion?
Realizing all this, the Demon's expression shifted repeatedly.
Unfortunately, her face had been disfigured by Yuan Chengfang's barrage of cuts, making those changes impossible to see.
Meanwhile, Yuan Chengfang and the others were all staring at the image in the mirror in astonishment.
"How is that possible?"
"What is this?"
"Didn't she jump out the window? Why is she still inside?"
"Is this... is this Mirror Space?!"
Gradually, Yuan Chengfang began to understand, her eyes lighting up.
"Yes, this is Mirror Space! It's not very big, but it should have no trouble trapping the Demon for a while."
"Great!"
Overjoyed, Yuan Chengfang and the other two immediately prepared to attack again.
"Wait!"
But Li Feng suddenly spoke up to stop them.
"What is it?"
The three looked at Li Feng in surprise.
"Heh!"
Li Feng chuckled, and the image in the mirror changed again, returning to the earlier fragmented view.
At the sight, Yuan Chengfang raised an eyebrow, instantly grasping Li Feng's intention.
Without further hesitation, she immediately formed a moonlike ball of light and threw it toward the mirror.
Beside her, Wu Cheng and Zhao Fei didn't understand his intention right away, but they promptly followed with attacks of their own.
Whoosh!
Bang, bang, bang...
Attack after attack shot out of the shattered Television screen fragments.
The Demon, who had only just regained her bearings, was grievously wounded once more. "Ah-roar!"
"Raaah! Die, die, die..."
The Demon roared. Her countless silver-white hairs instantly turned bluish-purple, then shot outward.
The bluish-purple color wasn't blood from the Demon staining her hair. This was her strongest desperate attack, unleashed by burning her blood essence.
Every strand contained the power of her fundamental essence.
Damage to even a single strand would cause her cultivation to plummet.
And now, every strand on her head was like that.
That alone showed how desperate the Demon had become.
After all, if she didn't escape now, she was certain to die.
