"Pfft, pfft, pfft..."
Every blue-purple strand of hair struck a tiny fragment of the Television screen.
Then the strands quivered, shaking the countless Television screen fragments into powder.
But in its frenzied state, the Demon failed to notice the faint spatial ripples spreading around every strand as its hair pierced and vibrated.
Countless spatial ripples collided and churned, weaving a web of cracks across the floor.
Through those cracks, an identical room could be seen.
Clearly, the Mirror Space created by the Weird Mirror was not strong enough to fully contain the Demon.
Unfortunately, dazed by the group's repeated attacks, the Demon had descended into utter madness and noticed none of this.
"Hiss, hiss, hiss..."
"Bang, bang, bang..."
Under the relentless attacks of Li Feng and the other two, especially Yuan Chengfang, the Demon kept suffering grievous injuries.
Yuan Chengfang, in particular, had severed countless strands of its wildly flailing hair.
A layer of purple even covered the entire floor.
As though a vast amount of strength had been drained from it, the Demon's once-powerful body began to shrink to skin and bones, and its steps grew unsteady.
"Aah! Die, die, die...
All of you, die!"
Finally, with bloodshot eyes and hair whipping wildly, the Demon destroyed everything in the room, from the Bed to the cabinets.
Thin Spatial Rifts appeared wherever its hair swept past.
With abnormalities appearing on such a large scale, even the frenzied Demon realized something was wrong.
"This is...
Hahaha! Fake, fake! All of this was fake!
Break, break, break! Shatter!"
Countless blue-purple strands twisted together into an enormous club that swept out in an instant, as though capable of mowing down an entire army.
In a flash, the huge club tore a pitch-black Spatial Rift along its path.
Without stopping, the Demon swung wildly throughout the room.
Gradually, cracks began to spread across the entire room.
"Ugh! Captain, I can't hold on much longer!"
Downstairs, Li Feng let out a muffled groan and called to Yuan Chengfang and the other two.
"Can you teleport it straight outside?"
Yuan Chengfang's expression tightened slightly as she spoke quickly.
"Yes!"
Li Feng nodded at once.
"Good. Stay inside. I'll go out and kill that Demon!"
As she spoke, Yuan Chengfang hurried outside.
Seeing this, Li Feng acted with a thought.
"Hum!"
The window in the Demon's room suddenly distorted violently.
At the sight of the changing window, the Demon felt a surge of joy and lunged toward it with all its strength.
"Whoosh!"
"Bang!"
Once again, there was nothing solid to push against. The Demon leaped straight out and plummeted from the seventh floor, smashing a large crater into the ground.
Although it had already suffered serious injuries, it was still an Advanced Danger Level Demon, with a physique far beyond the ordinary.
Thus, even after falling from the seventh floor, it only felt a tightness in its chest. After rolling several times to disperse the impact, it staggered back to its feet.
Looking at the ground beneath its feet, the Demon was overjoyed. It had finally escaped.
But in the very next instant, it felt a fierce rush of air behind its head, and an overwhelming sense of mortal danger gripped it.
"Aah!"
With no time to turn and look, the Demon let out a sudden scream. Blue-purple hair danced through the air, instantly weaving a thick barrier.
"Pfft!"
"Rip!"
A crescent of cold light flashed past, instantly tearing through the barrier as a razor-sharp claw swept across the back of its head.
"Splat!"
Blue-purple blood sprayed out. Half its skull flew off, scattering pale brain matter.
Li Feng and the others, who had reached the building entrance, witnessed everything. The instant the Demon landed and stood up,
Yuan Chengfang darted forward and appeared behind it, her right hand raised high and transforming in a flash into a sharp claw covered in silver fur.
Then, trailing a faint silver glow, it traced a crescent arc, easily tore through the Demon's defenses, and sheared off half its head with a single swipe.
"Tsk, brutal!"
Li Feng could not help remarking.
Only after the Demon's corpse crashed heavily to the ground did Li Feng and the other two leave the entrance and approach Yuan Chengfang, looking down at the fallen Demon.
"Captain, you're incredible!
Even a Demon that powerful couldn't withstand a single strike from you!"
Li Feng could not help giving her a thumbs-up.
"Heh, taking down a little Demon like that was easy..."
Yuan Chengfang wiped her nose and tilted her head up at a forty-five-degree angle to gaze at the sky.
"Exactly! If we'd known, we could've just teleported the Demon outside and let the captain deal with it."
Beside them, Wu Cheng also wore a look of admiration.
But after he finished, Yuan Chengfang's face darkened, and she shot him a sidelong glance.
"That Demon was at the Advanced Danger Level too. It was no weaker than me.
If we hadn't relied on Li's Weird Mirror ability to catch it off guard, trapping it with a trick and attacking it,
It wouldn't have suffered such heavy injuries before it could react, or exhausted so much of its strength.
It even..."
At this point, Yuan Chengfang looked at the fallen Demon.
On closer inspection, a tinge of silver-gray could be seen returning to its formerly blue-purple hair.
This was not merely due to depleted strength. Its essence had burned away, damaging its very foundation.
Its hair already looked withered, nowhere near as tough as before.
Yuan Chengfang shook her head and continued:
"...Without all that, even if I could kill it, it would take considerable effort.
It might even cause extensive destruction and casualties, or escape altogether..."
Everyone enjoyed praise, but she would not steal her subordinates' credit. Credit belonged to whoever had earned it.
"Heh..."
Seemingly sensing Yuan Chengfang's displeasure, Wu Cheng gave an awkward chuckle. He had meant to flatter her, only to put his foot in it.
"Tap, tap, tap..."
Just then, hurried footsteps suddenly sounded in the distance.
They turned and saw three people in dark green camouflage come into view.
The moment Li Feng saw them, he understood. These had to be Demon-Subduing Guards from the Response Department.
Members of the Response Department were called Demon-Subduing Guards or Demon Slayers.
Like the Response Department itself, they were divided into first-class, second-class, third-class, and trainee Demon-Subduing Guards.
And in the brief instant it took Li Feng to realize this and blink, the three Demon-Subduing Guards had already appeared before them.
Honestly, the sight startled Li Feng.
Whatever else might be said, their speed alone made it clear that they were extremely powerful.
"Captain Yuan, looks like we're late..."
The three Demon-Subduing Guards stopped in front of them. After glancing at the Demon's mangled corpse, their leader spoke with a smile.
"Not at all. You got here very quickly, Captain Xu.
Investigating supernatural incidents is full of uncertainties. Who knows what a demon might do?"
"Mm, true enough!"
Their leader, Xu Han, nodded in agreement.
Then he looked again at the fallen Demon and its surroundings before raising his gaze to the shattered seventh-floor window.
"Tsk, what a gruesome death!
But this was an Advanced Danger Level Demon, wasn't it? Surely it should've caused more damage than this?
Could it be that you've broken through, Captain Yuan?"
As he finished, Xu Han looked at Yuan Chengfang skeptically.
"What's with that look? Am I not allowed to break through?"
Yuan Chengfang's face darkened.
"Hahaha, of course you are!
Just joking, just joking.
So you really have broken through, Captain Yuan?"
"No!"
Yuan Chengfang answered sulkily.
"Oh! Then this..."
Looking as though his suspicions had been confirmed, Xu Han glanced at the Demon on the ground with renewed puzzlement.
If Yuan Chengfang had broken through, she might not have subdued this Advanced Danger Level Demon with a single blow, but it certainly would not have suffered so many nonfatal injuries.
Even the damage caused by the fight would have been reduced further.
"Mm..."
Yuan Chengfang looked at Li Feng. Her gloomy expression vanished, replaced by a hint of pride, and she recounted the entire incident.
Having someone capable under her command was always something to be proud of.
After hearing Yuan Chengfang's account, Xu Han and the other two aloof-looking Demon-Subduing Guards all turned to Li Feng in surprise.
"Heh, you're quite something, young man. Interested in joining our Demon-Subduing Guards?"
Li Feng's ability would be first-rate support for the Demon-Subduing Guard in their battles, too.
Yuan Chengfang's face darkened at his words. Trying to poach her subordinate right in front of her—did he have no respect for her at all?
So, before Li Feng could speak, he snapped back coldly.
"Get lost! He's with our Investigation Department. Once we get back, he'll be promoted to Full Investigator..."
"Hahaha, just joking, just joking..."
Xu Han did not take Yuan Chengfang's reaction to heart, merely laughing it off.
Li Feng's ability was indeed good, but he was still rather weak. He was not worth aggressively poaching at the expense of relations between fellow government supernatural departments.
"Hmph! All right, our Investigation Department has already handled things here. You can go back!"
"Heh, we're all government supernatural departments, after all. Since we're already here, naturally we should help with the cleanup..."
Once the Demon had been dealt with, cleaning up afterward was naturally much simpler.
It amounted to removing the remnants of the Demon’s power and dealing with its corpse.
As for everything else, including what came afterward, that was the Public Security Bureau's responsibility.
Before long, everything had been taken care of.
Naturally, Yuan Chengfang put the Demon's corpse into her Storage Space.
Before parting ways with the Response Department's Demon-Subduing Guards, Xu Han looked at Li Feng again and said with a smile:
"Li Feng, if you ever want to experience a real man's hot-blooded, exhilarating battles, our Response Department will always welcome you..."
"Hmph! A bunch of brutes taking orders from our Investigation Department!"
Yuan Chengfang snorted, grabbed Li Feng, and pulled him into the car.
"Tsk!"
Watching the Investigation Department's vehicle drive away, Xu Han's face darkened.
"Yuan's tongue is as sharp as ever..."
Still, in a certain sense, things really were as Yuan Chengfang had said.
After all, most of the time, they dealt with Paranormal Entity incidents and subdued Monsters and Demons based on information supplied by the Investigation Department.
Wasn't that essentially the same as following the Investigation Department's orders?
Of course, that was not how it actually worked. They simply had different duties.
