Chased by a chicken

After Ge Qing and Ge Zhou found the household that needed help, they knocked for ages, but no one answered. Ge Zhou looked down and spotted a triangular corner poking out through the gap in the door, then curiously pulled it out.

It turned out to be a note the villagers had left for them. In short, they had gone out to work and left the door unlocked. All Ge Qing and Ge Zhou needed to do was feed the pigs and chickens.

The feeding instructions were written on the paper too. They just had to follow them.

After reading it, Ge Qing patted Zhouzhou on the head. "Nice work, little bro."

Zhouzhou couldn't stand the way his older brother talked. He shot Ge Qing a disdainful look, then pushed the door open and went inside on his own.

"Could you show your older brother some basic respect?" Ge Qing said as he followed him in.

Once inside, they looked around and spotted the pigpen and the chicken coop.

They were both complete beginners at this sort of thing. After reading the instructions on the note, Ge Qing thought for a moment.

"Let's feed the chickens first. They're smaller, so they've got to be easier to feed."

For once, Ge Zhou agreed with his older brother.

They mixed the chicken feed according to the instructions. Once it was ready, Ge Qing pointed at the coop and asked, "Are we supposed to let them out?"

Ge Zhou thought about the books he had read. The chicks in those books always came out to eat, so he nodded confidently.

Ge Qing opened the coop, and the chicks scrambled out, gathering around the food to eat. A hen stood behind them, watching them the whole time.

Watching the chicks eat, Ge Qing said, "These chicks are so cute. They're all fluffy."

Ge Zhou didn't argue this time. He thought the chicks were adorable too.

Looking at the cute little chicks, Ge Qing couldn't resist picking one up. He held it in his palm and stroked it.

{"Oh no. Ge Qing is doomed."}

{"How did you come to that conclusion?"}

{"Those chicks are clearly newly hatched. If Ge Qing picks one up, the hen will definitely think he's trying to hurt her baby."}

The hen spread her wings and charged straight at Ge Qing, clucking loudly.

The chicks that had finished eating followed Ge Qing in a long line, perhaps finding the scene hilarious. That only made the hen chase him even harder.

Ge Qing ran all over the yard, yelling for the production crew to help. The crew made it clear that he had to finish his own task himself.

"This damn production crew! You're messing with me!" Ge Qing cursed as he changed direction and ran outside, hoping to find someone who could help.

Ge Zhou had frozen when the hen started chasing his brother. He didn't understand why she had suddenly gone after him, but when he saw her grow even fiercer as all the chicks followed his brother, he seemed to figure it out.

He was about to tell his brother to put the chick down, but his brother had already run outside.

Ge Zhou muttered, "Stupid brother," then hurried after him.

{"Wow, those consequences really are something."}

{"Boohoo, now I'm remembering getting chased by chickens as a kid. Their pecks seriously hurt."}

The live chat was frantic on his behalf, while Ge Qing kept running, still unable to understand why the hen was chasing him.

This time, Ge Qing finally heard him. At last, he noticed the chick in his hand. He slowed down a little and carefully set it on the ground.

Then he immediately took off again. The hen slowed her pursuit, and Shen Zeyu seized the chance to pick up a branch and scare her off.

Frightened, the hen kept pacing nearby.

"Let's herd the chickens back first, or they'll wander off." Ge Qing realized that too. If they scattered, he would definitely be responsible, so he started copying Shen Zeyu and herding the chickens, still panting for breath.

Before Shen Zeyu could say anything, Lu Yu followed their example and started herding the chickens too.

Seeing him, Shen Zeyu praised him. "Great job, Yuyu."

Lu Yu chuckled and grew even more enthusiastic.

The two adults and the little boy herded the chickens back the way they had come. Zhouzhou, who was still racing after his brother, stopped to one side when he saw them, then joined in.

Once they finally got the chickens back, Ge Qing let out a sigh of relief. "Oh, thank you so much, Shen. You're amazing."

Zhouzhou looked at his brother, speechless. "You're just too stupid, big brother. Why did you pick up a chick?" He had wanted to warn him, but his brother had run so fast that he couldn't catch up.

"I didn't know the hen would chase me if I picked up a chick! That hen was terrifying. Once I started running, I completely forgot."

"If you're so smart, tell me why the hen chased me when I picked up the chick."

Ge Zhou didn't know that either. He had only figured it out from what he saw.

Shen Zeyu explained from beside them, "The chicks probably hatched recently, so the hen is very protective. She thought you were going to hurt one."

He thought about how much a hen's pecks hurt. He didn't even want to remember it.

"Zhouzhou was very clever to figure it out." Thinking of how Ge Zhou had chased after his brother, Shen Zeyu knew he must have realized what was happening.

Ge Zhou blushed a little. "Thank you, Shen."

Lu Yu hopped in front of Shen Zeyu and waved his hands. "Papa, what about me? What about me?"

"Our Yuyu did a great job too. You helped us herd the chicks," Shen Zeyu said with a smile.

"Hehe." Lu Yu was satisfied.

Ge Qing, meanwhile, felt a little wronged. He had only thought the chick was adorable and wanted to pet it. Who knew the hen would chase him?

This was the greatest humiliation of my life! Aaaaah!

"Bye, Zhouzhou! Papa and I are leaving," Lu Yu said to Ge Zhou.

"Bye, Yuyu."

After Shen Zeyu and Lu Yu left, Ge Qing's face fell. What was he supposed to do? They still had to feed the pigs.

The hen had already traumatized him.

How was he going to finish feeding the pigs now?

Ge Qing looked at his little brother.

Ge Zhou: You've got some nerve expecting me to do it. I'm scared too, okay?

Ge Qing: Someone, please save me!
