Background / History

Lu Yu’s biological parents—Lu Cizhou’s older brother and sister-in-law—died in an accident. Lu Cizhou subsequently raised him, and the two normally lived together apart from the wider Lu household. When Cizhou fell into a coma, Lu Yu’s need for care was one reason Lu Wan accepted the Shen family’s proposed marriage alliance 2.

Lu Yu initially watches Shen Zeyu from behind a pillar, but quickly warms to his appearance and kindness. Over lunch, he asks whether Shen is his “other daddy” and whether he will treat him well. Shen suggests the name “Papa” to distinguish himself from Cizhou, and Lu Yu readily accepts it. He then takes Shen to Cizhou’s bedside, introduces his new father, and assures Cizhou that he still likes him best 3.
