Appearance
- Dimples: Make him look approachable when he greets Shen Zeyu 39.
- Introduced outfit: Arrives at the village dressed entirely in black, matching Ge Zhou 39.
Personality
Ge Qing is outgoing, talkative, and quick to treat strangers as friends. On meeting Shen Zeyu, he immediately compliments his looks and launches into chatter about himself. His affection is equally direct: when Shen agrees to cook for the group, Ge Qing excitedly hugs him in gratitude 39 41.
He enjoys teasing his reserved younger brother, but sometimes misjudges how much the teasing matters to him. After concealing that Ge Zhou has flour on his face during filming, he initially assumes the boy will not mind. Once he realizes Ge Zhou is genuinely upset, he repeatedly apologizes and eventually restores their trust by promising not to lie to him again 43 44 45.
Unfamiliar chores easily fluster him, especially when animals are involved. Nevertheless, he finishes the assigned work, helps with communal meals, and accepts instruction when he lacks the necessary skills 42 43 44 45.
Abilities & Skills
Dance and Public Performance
Ge Qing proposes street performances as a way to raise money for the cast’s village meal. His energetic dance draws applause and presents a more focused side of him than his usual playful behavior 46.
- Performs an explosive opening dance with wholehearted commitment and youthful energy.
- Bows and thanks the audience afterward.
- His dance and Chen Ran’s singing together earn the group a little over 50 yuan; the proceeds are insufficient for their task, so they seek paid work 46.
Practical Skills and Limitations
Ge Qing openly admits that he cannot cook, but volunteers to help 40.
- Vegetable preparation: Initially removes nearly all the leaves, leaving mostly stalks. Zi Yiting teaches him to remove only dirt and yellowed parts, then wash the remaining vegetables 44.
- Animal feeding: Follows written instructions with Ge Zhou to prepare chicken feed and pig food, despite having no prior experience with the work 42 43.
- Cooperative chores: Helps prepare dinner and joins the other adults in clearing and washing up afterward 44 45.
Relationships
- Ge Zhou — His six-year-old younger brother and partner on the show. Ge Zhou is self-sufficient and sometimes helps manage his exuberant older brother. Their teasing relationship briefly becomes strained over the flour incident, then returns to playful affection after Ge Qing’s sincere apology 39 43 44 45.
- Shen Zeyu — Fellow contestant whom Ge Qing greets with immediate friendliness. He admires Shen’s cooking and turns to him for rescue when pursued by a protective hen 39 40 41 42.
- Zi Yiting — Fellow contestant who patiently teaches him how to prepare vegetables without embarrassing him 44.
- Chen Ran — Fellow contestant and performance partner during their attempt to earn money in town; Chen sings while Ge Qing dances 46.
- Lu Yu, Feifei, and Tiantian — The other participating children. When Ge Zhou refuses to speak to him, they urge Ge Qing to make amends 44.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Arrival and Lodging Competition
Ge Qing joins the village filming with Ge Zhou rather than a child of his own. In the opening “Draw and Guess” competition, Ge Zhou repeatedly draws book covers, forcing Ge Qing to identify titles. He answers five of ten correctly and discovers that his brother’s reading interests extend beyond books intended for his age 39 40.
| Result | Details |
|---|---|
| Score | Five correct answers out of ten 40 |
| Placement | Third, behind Shen Zeyu and Chen Ran’s teams 40 |
| Accommodation | A house without a bathroom or air conditioning, equipped only with a fan 40 |
Farm Chores and the Hen Chase
To obtain food, the brothers visit a household whose owners have left instructions to feed the pigs and chickens. Ge Qing chooses to feed the chickens first because they are smaller. Charmed by the fluffy chicks, he picks one up, prompting its mother to charge at him 42.
In his panic, he runs without releasing the chick and calls to Shen Zeyu for help. Shen tells him to put it down, uses a branch to keep the hen back, and helps the brothers and Lu Yu herd the chickens safely home. Ge Qing then completes the pig-feeding task with Ge Zhou, whose reminder to shut the gate prevents the pigs from escaping 42 43.
Conflict and Reconciliation with Ge Zhou
After feeding the pigs, Ge Qing notices flour smeared across Ge Zhou’s face but hides the reason for his laughter. Ge Zhou only learns about it when the homeowner offers him water to wash. Embarrassed that he has appeared that way on camera, he stops speaking to his brother 43 44.
Ge Qing apologizes repeatedly, then catches up with Ge Zhou on their way to borrow a villager’s bathroom. He promises—and swears—not to lie to him again. Ge Zhou forgives him, and the brothers resume laughing and playing together 45.
Earning Money and Closing the Episode
The next morning, the cast must supplement a 400-yuan budget to host a meal for helpful villagers and elderly residents living alone. Ge Qing suggests dancing alongside Chen Ran’s singing. When donations prove insufficient, the adults and children take a three-hour flyer-distribution job, earning 50 yuan per adult and 20 yuan per child 46.
After the cast prepares the meal, the production team surprises four village families with returning relatives. Ge Qing playfully challenges the director for keeping the reunions secret. Following filming, the cast delivers gifts to the villagers, and Ge Qing leaves for another engagement 47.
