Arc 1From First Pokémon to Elite Class

Zhang Cheng raised Poliwag, caught Pidgey, and earned a place in Jiangcheng No. 1 High School’s Elite Class through training and tournament battles. As the new term began, he became class monitor under Bai Yuling and showed knowledge that made her suspect he had learned more than she had taught.

  • Zhang Cheng used his system to choose a high-potential Poliwag Egg, hatched Poliwag, and began training him while planning a Rain Team.
  • Zhang Cheng took Poliwag to League Center assignments, where Poliwag defeated Charmander and Oshawott, lost to Snivy, and steadily grew stronger.
  • Zhang Cheng guarded Shennong Orchard with Poliwag, caught a high-potential Pidgey, and trained both Pokémon before returning home with his mission pay.
  • Zhang Cheng and Ye Tian sparred before school began, and Zhang Cheng’s Pidgey drew with Ye Tian’s higher-level Butterfree.
  • At Jiangcheng No. 1 High School, Zhang Cheng advanced through the intraclass tournament with Poliwag and Pidgey, earned a top-five place, and qualified for the Elite Class.
  • Zhang Cheng bought the Thief Technical Machine for Poliwag, moved into Elite Class One, and was appointed class monitor by Bai Yuling.
  • Zhang Cheng and Ye Tian taught their Pokémon new moves and sparred, then Zhang Cheng began the term by falling asleep in Bai Yuling’s class.
  • Zhang Cheng correctly explained Scyther’s abilities, prompting Bai Yuling to suspect he had learned the information elsewhere and plan a harder question.
Chapters 1–25 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 1The Pokémon world

Zhang Cheng woke in a world where Pokémon had appeared a century earlier and prepared to choose his first partner before turning sixteen. After his mother gave him the money his absent father had left for that purpose, Zhang Cheng headed to a Pokémon Day Care, determined to work hard as a Trainer and uncover what had happened to his father.

  • Zhang Cheng realized he had transmigrated to Blue Star, where he lived with his mother in Jiangcheng and would become eligible to register as a Pokémon Trainer at sixteen.
  • Zhang Cheng's mother gave him the bank card his father had left to pay for his first Pokémon, and he resolved to cherish his family and learn the truth about his father's disappearance.
  • Zhang Cheng found 200,000 Pokémon Coins on the card and decided to buy his first Pokémon from an official Pokémon Day Care rather than an unregulated market.
  • Zhang Cheng took a car to the Pokémon Day Care, seeing Tauros, Dodrio, and a few Rapidash on the streets and telling the driver he was about to become a Trainer.
  • Zhang Cheng reflected that ordinary Trainers faced disadvantages in Pokémon knowledge and resources, and that he would soon begin his final year at Jiangcheng No. 1 High School.

Ch. 2Choosing a Pokémon

Zhang Cheng visited Jiangcheng City's largest Pokémon Day Care to buy his first Pokémon, then discovered his newly activated system could scan Pokémon and reveal their information. He used it to inspect Pokémon Eggs and found a promising Nidoran♂, but continued searching.

  • Zhang Cheng entered the League-operated Pokémon Day Care and told a saleswoman his budget was about 150,000 Pokémon Coins.
  • Zhang Cheng examined the Pokémon for sale and found their Potential disappointing.
  • Zhang Cheng's system linked with him and granted him the ability to scan Pokémon.
  • Zhang Cheng scanned a Rattata and learned it had E- Potential and the Guts Ability.
  • Zhang Cheng asked to inspect Pokémon Eggs and discovered his system could reveal the information of Pokémon inside them.
  • Zhang Cheng found a male Nidoran with D Potential and the Egg Move Counter, then kept looking through the Eggs.

Ch. 3Rain team

Zhang Cheng chose and bought a rare Poliwag Egg with B+ potential and the Swift Swim Ability, then studied how to build a Rain Team while waiting for it to hatch. Poliwag hatched and bonded with Zhang Cheng, who began raising him and worried about the costs of becoming a Trainer.

  • Zhang Cheng spotted a Poliwag Egg with B+ potential, Swift Swim, and useful Egg Moves, and chose it as his first Pokémon.
  • Zhang Cheng bought the Egg and an incubation kit for 190,000 Pokémon Coins, then set it in an incubator at home.
  • While waiting for Poliwag to hatch, Zhang Cheng studied Rain Teams and planned to add an Electric-type Pokémon as his second team member.
  • After seven days, Poliwag hatched and immediately nuzzled Zhang Cheng, treating him as his parent.
  • Zhang Cheng fed Poliwag his eggshell and Water-type food, then realized he had run out of money and would need to cover future care and training costs.

Ch. 4Growth

During Poliwag’s first week, Zhang Cheng built their bond through morning runs, play, and rewards before beginning move training. Poliwag learned Water Sport and improved its Water Gun, and Zhang Cheng ended their first full training day by promising to continue tomorrow.

  • Zhang Cheng took Poliwag on daily runs, played with it, and rewarded it with food and Pokéblocks during its first week.
  • After Poliwag grew a little, Zhang Cheng planned move training so it could battle and earn money through League Center assignments.
  • Zhang Cheng took Poliwag to a park and had it practice Water Gun against a tree trunk, encouraging it when its early attacks were weak.
  • Poliwag quickly learned Water Sport, then rested and ate its favorite Pokéblocks before returning to Water Gun practice.
  • By sunset, Poliwag’s Water Gun had grown more accurate and powerful, but Zhang Cheng stopped training for the day and took it home.

Ch. 5Accepting a mission

After training Poliwag until he reached Level 2, Zhang Cheng accepted a Bronze Rank mission to spar with novice Trainers and build Poliwag’s battle experience. He returned home to prepare Poliwag for their first battle the next day.

  • Poliwag used his improved Water Gun to break a tree trunk, and Zhang Cheng checked his Level 2 status.
  • Zhang Cheng reviewed the Pokémon League’s mission tiers and traveled with Poliwag to the League center in Jiangcheng City.
  • Zhang Cheng chose the Nanting Training Ground mission, which required Trainers with level 2–5 Pokémon to spar with novices.
  • At home, Zhang Cheng bathed and massaged Poliwag while thinking through the challenges of their upcoming battles.
  • Zhang Cheng encouraged Poliwag to try to win their first battle and promised to buy him high-quality Pokéblocks after the mission.

Ch. 6The first battle

Zhang Cheng began his first task at the Nanting Training Ground and entered a practice battle against Jiang Nian’s Charmander with Poliwag. Poliwag struck Charmander’s tail with Water Gun, activating Blaze, and the battle’s outcome remained undecided.

  • Zhang Cheng arrived at the Nanting Training Ground and learned he would battle novice Trainers twice a day under rules that prohibited serious injuries.
  • A staff member introduced Zhang Cheng to Jiang Nian, and the two prepared for a one-on-one practice battle.
  • Zhang Cheng used his cheat to inspect Charmander and identified its moves, potential, and Blaze ability.
  • Jiang Qing ordered Charmander to attack with Scratch, while Zhang Cheng had Poliwag counter with Water Gun.
  • Jiang Qing tried to weaken Poliwag with Growl, but Zhang Cheng directed Poliwag to target Charmander’s tail with Water Gun.
  • Charmander dodged one attack and used Growl, but Poliwag’s next Water Gun hit his tail and dropped his HP below one-third, activating Blaze.

Ch. 7Victory in the First Battle

Zhang Cheng defeated Jiang Nian’s Charmander with Poliwag, which reached level three, then prepared for an afternoon battle against a promising Snivy. Poliwag fell behind after its Water Gun was resisted, and the chapter ended with the match still underway.

  • Jiang Nian activated Charmander’s Blaze and ordered Ember, but Zhang Cheng had Poliwag use Water Sport to weaken the Fire-type attack.
  • Zhang Cheng ordered Poliwag to finish Charmander with Water Gun, knocking it out and winning the battle; Poliwag reached level three.
  • Zhang Cheng took Poliwag for treatment, ate lunch, and considered teaching it Bubble Beam to improve its limited attacks.
  • Zhang Cheng faced a level-three Snivy whose Grass typing resisted Water Gun, and the two Pokémon began battling.
  • After several exchanges, Poliwag’s Water Gun dealt less damage than Snivy’s Tackle, and Poliwag fell further behind in remaining HP.

Ch. 8Reflection and review

After Poliwag lost to a Snivy, Zhang Cheng reviewed his battles and planned a team to cover Poliwag’s weaknesses, choosing Pidgey as his next Pokémon. He encouraged Poliwag after treatment and promised Pokéblocks if they did well in tomorrow’s battles.

  • A Snivy defeated Poliwag with Magical Leaf, and Zhang Cheng took Poliwag to the treatment room.
  • While waiting, Zhang Cheng decided to target Pidgey as his second Pokémon because it could counter Grass types, fit a Rain Team, and help him explore the wilderness safely.
  • Zhang Cheng planned to build a Rain Team around Poliwag evolving into Politoed, with Pidgey second and a suitable Electric-type third.
  • After Poliwag recovered, Zhang Cheng praised and comforted it about the loss, then promised Pokéblocks after tomorrow’s battles.
  • Poliwag cheered up and resolved to work hard so it could earn Pokéblocks.

Ch. 9Battling Oshawott

Zhang Cheng and Poliwag defeated Ye Lang’s Oshawott in a close battle, then won a second match against a Sandshrew. Zhang Cheng collected his training reward and headed to a Pokémon store to buy Poliwag Pokéblocks.

  • Zhang Cheng brought Poliwag to the Nanting Training Ground and met Ye Lang, his opponent for the morning battle.
  • Ye Lang’s Oshawott pushed Poliwag to the brink with Brine, but Zhang Cheng used Endeavor to bring both Pokémon near defeat.
  • Poliwag struck first with Water Gun and knocked out Oshawott, winning the battle for Zhang Cheng.
  • After Poliwag recovered, Zhang Cheng and Poliwag defeated a Level 2 Sandshrew, and Poliwag reached Level Four.
  • Zhang Cheng collected four thousand Pokémon Coins and went to a nearby Pokémon store to buy Pokéblocks for Poliwag.

Ch. 10Carefree Days

Zhang Cheng trained Poliwag in Water Gun, Bubble Beam, and Mind Reader while balancing practice with rest. After a week, he ran out of money and decided they had to take missions from the Pokémon League Center.

  • Zhang Cheng bought Pokéblocks and Poké Balls, then took Poliwag home to rest after two days of intense battles.
  • Zhang Cheng trained Poliwag to improve Water Gun accuracy, and Poliwag learned to hit half of the moving targets.
  • Zhang Cheng taught Poliwag Bubble Beam, which Poliwag learned to use, though it was still weaker than Water Gun.
  • Over the next two days, Poliwag mastered Mind Reader, which helped his Water Gun hit moving targets reliably.
  • Zhang Cheng trained and cared for Poliwag for a week, then realized they had run out of money and needed to take Pokémon League Center missions.

Ch. 11Shennong Orchard

Zhang Cheng accepted a ten-day guard mission at Shennong Orchard, where Poliwag battled wild Pokémon and grew stronger. On the sixth day, Zhang Cheng found a Pidgey with B-grade Potential and decided he wanted it for his team.

  • Zhang Cheng accepted a ten-day mission to guard Shennong Orchard for forty thousand Pokémon Coins and told his mother he would be away.
  • Zhang Cheng traveled to the orchard, settled into the staff dormitory, and was assigned to guard a patch of nearly ripe Pecha Berry trees from Pidgey and Spearow.
  • Zhang Cheng trained Poliwag while guarding the orchard, and Poliwag drove away several Pidgey with Water Gun.
  • Zhang Cheng considered catching a young Pidgey from the orchard but passed over the ones he found because their Potential was too low.
  • By the sixth day, Poliwag had reached level five and grown proficient with Bubble Beam.
  • When another Pidgey arrived to steal a Pecha Berry, Zhang Cheng discovered it had B-grade Potential and became excited about adding it to his team.

Ch. 12Catching Pidgey

Zhang Cheng caught a promising Pidgey after Poliwag weakened her in the orchard, then took her for treatment. Once she recovered, he introduced Pidgey and Poliwag as teammates and brought them back to his lodgings.

  • Zhang Cheng ordered Poliwag to stop Pidgey from eating the Pecha Berries, and Pidgey retaliated with Steel Wing.
  • Poliwag hit Pidgey with Bubble Beam, and Zhang Cheng caught her with his second Poké Ball after she escaped the first.
  • Zhang Cheng took the injured Pidgey to the Treatment Room and left Poliwag to guard the Pecha Berry tree.
  • After Pidgey recovered, Zhang Cheng fed her and Poliwag, then brought them to his lodgings to meet as teammates.
  • Zhang Cheng urged Poliwag and Pidgey to sleep before their next morning guarding the orchard.

Ch. 13Mission Complete

Zhang Cheng trained Pidgey and Poliwag during their final days guarding Shennong Orchard, then collected his mission pay and bought supplies for them. Back home, he let the Pokémon rest for a day before the next round of training.

  • Zhang Cheng assessed Pidgey's Tackle, Sand Attack, and Steel Wing, then focused its training on Steel Wing and speed.
  • Zhang Cheng trained Poliwag in Endeavor and planned to pair it with Pidgey's Quick Attack in future battles.

  • Zhang Cheng trained Poliwag and Pidgey until they reached levels nine and six, with Poliwag learning Hypnosis and Pidgey learning Gust.
  • Zhang Cheng accepted two public security assignments and saved forty thousand Pokémon Coins during the final month of summer.
  • Ye Tian called Zhang Cheng and invited him to bring their Pokémon to Nanting Training Ground for a sparring match.
  • Zhang Cheng paid the rental fee and released Pidgey, surprising Ye Tian with his second Pokémon.
  • Ye Tian revealed that his starter had evolved from Caterpie into Butterfree, stunning Zhang Cheng.

Ch. 15Battling Butterfree

Zhang Cheng’s Pidgey battled Ye Tian’s Butterfree, and their type and level advantages ultimately ended in a draw. The two Trainers reflected on what they learned and looked ahead to working hard when school started.

  • Ye Tian challenged Zhang Cheng with his Level-ten Butterfree, while Zhang Cheng chose his Level-six Pidgey.
  • Butterfree and Pidgey exchanged attacks, with Pidgey’s type advantage countering Butterfree’s higher Level.
  • Both Pokémon used Gust at the same time and fell, leaving the battle a draw.
  • Zhang Cheng and Ye Tian acknowledged their mistakes and discussed how battling taught Trainers as well as Pokémon.
  • Ye Tian worried about boarding at school, but Zhang Cheng encouraged him, and the two went to check on their Pokémon.

At the Pokémon Training Ground, Hao Chenggong approached them and expressed confidence they would all make it into the Elite Class as the tournament was about to begin.

  • Jin Haoxian explained that the forty students would draw lots for preliminary battles, with the winners advancing to the Semifinals and a final challenge giving exceptional performers another chance at a top-five spot.
  • Ye Tian told Zhang Cheng that Hao Chenggong's Tepig and Wu Yueyue's level-eight Eevee made them likely contenders for the top five.
  • Zhang Cheng and Ye Tian had lunch at the school cafeteria and then went to the Pokémon Training Ground to wait for the tournament.
  • Hao Chenggong approached Zhang Cheng and Ye Tian, said he expected them to reach the Elite Class, and left to prepare.

  • Zhang Cheng and Ye Tian collected their Pokémon Coins and left to look for Technical Machines for Poliwag and Butterfree.

Ch. 21Technical Machines

Zhang Cheng and Ye Tian bought Technical Machines for Poliwag and Butterfree, then purchased food for their Pokémon. Zhang Cheng chose Thief because his ability let him identify opponents’ held items, and the two returned to school after dinner.

  • Ye Tian chose the Protect Technical Machine for Butterfree because it was affordable and could help the frail Pokémon withstand attacks.
  • Zhang Cheng considered Protect and Scald for Poliwag, then chose the Thief Technical Machine so he could steal items from opponents whose held items he could identify.
  • The shop discounted their purchases, and Zhang Cheng paid forty thousand Pokémon Coins for Thief while Ye Tian paid thirty thousand for Protect.
