Demons are described as demon beasts wearing human skin, fundamentally lacking compassion and feeling. Their soldiers can step over fallen comrades and resume an assault with little loss of momentum. This detachment contributes to the Demon King’s Army’s exceptional discipline, though overwhelming losses eventually cause panic 557.

They remain social creatures despite their cold nature. Demons maintain friendships, rivalries, and personal grudges; during the crisis at the Demon King’s Castle, Maou explicitly orders them to set these disputes aside 583.

Strength strongly influences allegiance. Esdeath argues that the defeated Demons will accept control by a superior power, while Tot and Solitär submit to Lin Luo to secure their survival. Aura likewise considers the strength gained through Devil reincarnation an irresistible reward 562 608.

Appearance and Physiology

• Humanlike appearance: Their outward resemblance to humans contrasts with the description of them as demon beasts 557.

History

Attacks and Failed Countermeasures

General Azarut leads several thousand soldiers against Frieren’s elven village. Rias destroys more than half the force before Frieren joins the defense, while Lin Luo confronts Azarut directly 547.

The conflict escalates with the death of Beze the Undying and more than ten thousand elite Demons—an unprecedented loss for a race described as holding the world in its grip. Schurahat subsequently coordinates further resistance, but the trap involving Macht also fails 560 564 573.

Battle at the Demon King’s Castle

By the final gathering at the castle, three of the Seven Sages of Destruction have died. Maou warns that the race faces extinction and places preparations under Schurahat’s direction 583.

Lin Luo deploys 30,000 Imperial Arms Frame pilots against the fortified city. His familiars engage the Demon leaders while he confronts Maou; their first direct clash destroys the palace and ends without either gaining the upper hand 584 585.

The defenders lose major figures during the fighting. Serie kills the Demons’ War God, Schurahat dies and dissolves into black mist, and Artoria withstands the coordinated attacks of Rayfeld and Schreik 587 592 598.

Defeat and Subjugation

Lin Luo’s forces defeat Maou and end the war. With the leaders dead or captured, the remaining Demons are subdued. Esdeath persuades Lin Luo to preserve them as a potential military force instead of wiping them out, and he assigns their management to her 608.

Tot and Solitär accept reincarnation as Lin Luo’s Devil familiars. Their renewed growth and intensified emotions demonstrate that this transformation changes more than their allegiance: it also alters their original Demon nature 609.
