Background / History

Rias grew up alongside Lin Luo after the Gremory family adopted him as a child. Her older brother, Sirzechs, watched their relationship develop and understood their feelings for one another. As the family’s designated successor, Rias later exercised authority over its territory around Kuoh Academy 1 6 7 12.

Despite her attachment to Lin Luo, Rias remained engaged to Riser of the Phoenix family. She wanted to end the arrangement but feared that challenging his powerful peerage would endanger Lin Luo. When he proposed a Rating Game, she tested him personally before allowing him to proceed. Sirzechs supported the opportunity to dissolve the engagement and instructed Grayfia to make arrangements that the older nobles could not challenge 10 12.

Lin Luo won the Rating Game and killed Riser. Rias welcomed him afterward, though she recognized that Riser’s death could bring political trouble from his family. With the immediate conflict settled, she hosted a celebration at her villa 31 32.

As a hostess, she makes a point of receiving Lin Luo’s companions graciously and acknowledging their contributions 6 10 32.

She takes territorial responsibility seriously. Suspected Fallen Angel activity prompts an immediate investigation, while her agreement with the Church is conditional on its representatives avoiding harm to Kuoh. She also recognizes when a conflict exceeds her group’s strength: against Kokabiel, she calls for help and concentrates on holding a defensive barrier 7 34 36.

Rias openly accepts Lin Luo having multiple partners, citing Underworld customs, but still insists on her place as his leading partner. That acceptance does not eliminate jealousy.
