Xiao Yan was once considered a genius of the Xiao Clan, but lost his Dou Qi and endured three years of stagnation and ridicule in Wutan City. His broken engagement added to that humiliation. At the annual clan test, he began reclaiming his standing, while Xiao Ze’s return gave him a powerful protector and cultivation mentor 1 2 5 27.

Xiao Ze taught him that the absence of Dou Di was caused by the Emperor-Banishing Lock, not a lack of talented cultivators. Xiao Yan accepted the dangerous Flame Mantra inheritance and joined the effort to gather nine Heavenly Flames and reopen the Emperor Road 5.

His connection to those flames was later revealed to predate his training. The Purifying Lotus Demon Flame had created his reincarnated body as its successor and final hope of changing fate.
