History
Sealing and Bloodline Control
The path beyond Dou Sheng was described by Xiao Ze as having been sealed by the Heavenly Dao through the Emperor-Banishing Lock, explaining the absence of a new Dou Di for ten thousand years. He identified the Flame Mantra as a key to breaking the seal and prescribed gathering nine Heavenly Flames alongside the resonance of nine stars 5.
After refining a Hall of Souls elder’s remnant soul, Xiao Ze learned that the Hall of Souls and Gu Clan had jointly sealed the Emperor Road. His vision showed nine Heavenly Flames pierced by chains and a broken golden chain housed atop the Hall of Souls’ headquarters. According to his discovery, the flames originated from Dou Di blood, and only their reunion could burn away the lock 13.
The road’s suppression also sustained the ancient clans’ bloodline privileges. The Order Keeper later claimed responsibility for sealing it and eliminating Dou Di, arguing that unrestricted imperial power would collapse the world’s laws. Xiao Yan rejected this justification as a means of preserving oppression 35 37 38.
Reawakening and the Emperor Gate
Xiao Ze used three Dou Zun golden cores, his blood, and his remnant soul to summon the scattered flames. Their responses across the continent marked the beginning of the road’s reopening. The subsequent emergence of the Nine Nether Windfire Token publicly announced that Nine Flames Return to Origin would restore access 13 17.
Xiao Yan’s union with the Purifying Lotus Demon Flame Origin brought the nine flames together as Emperor Flame. Afterward, Xiao Ze spent the last strength of his remnant soul reversing the Nine Nether Chain Formation, raising the Emperor Gate on the Emperor Ruins Plains. Xiao Yan fought through the Gu Clan’s opposition and entered it 25 28.
Defense of the Road
The Gu Clan and Hall of Souls attempted to sever the gate’s connection using the Emperor-Slaying Formation, ancient Dou Di corpses, and an Emperor-Slaying Spear. Yao Chen led the Nine Flames Emperor Court in its defense, while Xiao Yan projected fire from within the gate to destroy the spear and repel the corpses 29.
A second attempt used the Emperor Blood Altar, fueled by nine Dou Sheng, to force the gate open. Yao Chen sacrificed his medicinal cauldron and emperor flame seed; Thunder Venerable, Venerable Feng, and Medusa gave their lives to sustain the seal. Their defense preserved Xiao Yan’s journey, allowing him to complete the road’s final flame trial and return at Dou Zun 31 32.
Opening to the World
Xiao Yan subsequently reforged the Emperor Stele into a public trial gateway and used himself as a catalyst to reopen the Gate to the Emperor Road during the nine clans’ assault. The Court then welcomed challengers from across the continent, gaining thirty-six emperor-flame heirs within three months 33 34 35.
Following his imperial ascension and defeat of the Order Keeper, Xiao Yan abolished the clans’ monopoly and emperor-blood seals. The Emperor Road was declared open to everyone. This reform remained contested: a gray-robed faction sought to corrupt the Emperor Fire Trial with Dark Flame, create false emperors, and regain control over access 37 38 39 40.
Appearance
- Emperor Gate: A crimson-gold gateway one hundred thousand feet tall, inscribed with Nine Flames totems and the words “Gate to the Emperor Road” 28.

- Responsive runes: Symbols beneath Xiao Yan’s feet illuminated as he advanced along the avenue 29.
- Road’s endpoint: The deep-blue Purifying Lotus Demon Flame Origin waited at the end; the golden avenue collapsed when Xiao Yan reached it 29 32.
