Origins and History

Xiao Ze discovers that the nine Heavenly Flames were formed from a Dou Di’s blood and that gathering them can burn away the Emperor-Banishing Lock. He uses his remnant soul to summon the other flame spirits, beginning their return to a common origin 13.

Pure Lotus later reveals that the Nine Flames Return to Origin Art was created to resist a coming Great Calamity, not merely to produce an emperor. Xiao Yan’s subsequent merger with the Purifying Lotus Demon Flame’s origin brings the nine flames together as Emperor Flame 20 25.

After emerging from the Emperor Flame Abyss, Xiao Yan establishes the Nine Flames Emperor Court and embeds the Emperor Fire Seal in a stone at Heaven-Burning Peak to create the Emperor Fire Stele. He later reforges the Nine Flames Emperor Stele with Emperor Flame, opening trials that grant qualifying cultivators its inheritance 26 33.

Emperor Flame becomes central to the struggle against the ancient clans’ control of cultivation. It empowers Xiao Yan’s heirs against Emperor Corpses, protects his imperial ascension, and frees the fallen Dou Di souls enslaved by the Order Keeper 34 36 38.

Following the Order Keeper’s defeat, a gray-robed faction develops Dark Flame by reverse-engineering Emperor Flame. Xiao Yan gathers the flames of his heirs to destroy the faction’s imperial embryo and altar, while continuing to open the trials beyond bloodline restrictions 40 41.
