Ch. 741More sublime than the Ultimate Bliss World

Key plot points and events

  • After Zhu Youmu killed Li Ning and imprisoned his primordial spirit in a rock, Li Ning used another of Zen Master Zunsheng’s sarira to form a new body. He resumed severe ascetic practice in the Southern Border, intending to avoid all magic for thirty years, then guide the Yin-Yang Old Man toward Buddhism.
  • The Yin-Yang Old Man, now one of Nun Xinru’s ten great arhats, found Li Ning and was ordered by Zhu Youmu to capture him. Reluctant and afraid of both men, he eventually drew Li Ning into the Poison Dragon Bag.
  • Zhu Youmu and the Yin-Yang Old Man then went to Mount Wuyi to recruit Xie Shan. Xie Lin remained trapped in a delusion created by the sisters’ failed attempt to reverse time with the Bodhi-Leaf Spirit Talisman. She preferred her fantasy of defeating the Sinful Dragon to the painful real world.
  • Xie Shan, desperate to save his daughter, followed them to Mount Jiuhua. Nun Xinru promised that her realm—more sublime than the Ultimate Bliss World—would draw Xie Lin out of her delusion. Her Buddha light awakened Xie Lin, who mistook the place for the Ultimate Bliss World.

Character developments

  • Li Ning believes he has learned humility and now refuses to use magic, though the narration notes that his magically formed incarnation is itself a use of power.
  • The Yin-Yang Old Man recognizes that Xinru’s faction is suspect and feels loyalty to Li Ning, but fear and obligation keep him compliant. He avoids responsibility by making Zhu Youmu state the order himself.
  • Xie Lin knowingly chooses her beautiful delusion over reality, viewing the real world as a nightmare of loss and suffering.
  • Xie Shan remains focused on saving his daughter and avoids judging Xinru, whom he considers far more accomplished than himself.
  • Nun Xinru presents herself as a compassionate savior, but her Buddha light carries her will and influences those who enter her domain.

Significant themes

  • Illusion and reality: Xie Lin’s fantasy is more bearable to her than reality, raising the question of whether either realm is more “real.”
  • Power and self-deception: Li Ning’s resolve to renounce magic is undermined by the magical nature of his new body.
  • Moral compromise and fear: The Yin-Yang Old Man knows he is doing wrong but is trapped by fear and circumstance.
  • Salvation and control: Xinru’s apparent rescue of Xie Lin may also be a means of drawing her into Xinru’s own spiritual domain.
  • Suffering and escape: Xinru argues that her realm offers an escape from worldly pain—and even surpasses the Buddhist paradise.

Character interactions

  • The Yin-Yang Old Man tries to address Li Ning respectfully, but Li Ning remains silent; Zhu Youmu pressures the Old Man to capture him.
  • Zhu Youmu persuades Xie Shan by promising that Xinru can save Xie Lin, exploiting his desperation.
  • Xie Shan pleads with Xinru, who frames Xie Lin’s suffering as connected to her own past actions and uses her Buddha light to awaken the girl.
  • Xie Lin’s first response after awakening is to ask whether she has reached the Ultimate Bliss World, setting up Xinru’s claim that her realm is even greater.

Ch. 742Buddha Xinru Descended upon Hundred Flowers Mountain

  • Xie Lin takes refuge: After awakening from the delusion realm, Xie Lin willingly renounces her former life and becomes a nun under Xinru. Renamed A Lin, she is declared to have attained the Arhat fruit immediately. A Ying stands beside her, while both daughters leave their father behind.
  • Xie Shan lets go and awakens: Their rejection wounds Xie Shan, who has devoted years to raising and protecting them. He nevertheless chooses to release his attachment and leave for Mount Wuyi. Xinru challenges him to recognize that the mountain is an attachment in his own heart. She also argues that her Pure Land and the Western Ultimate Bliss World are one in their essential nature. With Zhu Youmu’s explanation of the undivided truth beneath worldly distinctions, Xie Shan achieves full enlightenment, takes refuge in Xinru as his master, and receives a youthful appearance and golden Arhat body. The Zunsheng Sarira he possesses brings Xinru’s collection to eight.
  • Xinru targets Master Youtan: Xinru identifies Divine Nun Youtan, a formidable but comparatively weaker supreme expert, as her next target. She transports herself and millions of followers to Hundred Flowers Mountain, using the Seven-Treasure Golden Banner and Bodhi-Leaf Spirit Talisman to seal the mountain’s space and time. The barrier prevents Youtan from escaping and keeps possible allies from intervening.
  • Youtan prepares for the confrontation: Under the pressure of Xinru’s vast assembly and power, Qi Xia’er fears that her master is in danger. Youtan remains composed and invites Xinru into Tide-Sound Cave for tea, while ordering Qi to prepare it. He has already sent away his other followers and previously urged Qi to leave for her own safety; she chose to stay with him.
  • The encounter begins: Xinru answers the invitation by appearing at the cave entrance in the form she wore a thousand years earlier, when she was Xin Ruyu, one of the unorthodox Six Oddities of the Cosmos.
Character developments and relationships: A Lin’s conversion marks a complete break from her former family identity. Xie Shan moves from painful attachment to genuine spiritual release, accepting Xinru as his master. Qi Xia’er remains loyal to Youtan despite her fear, while Youtan’s calm hospitality suggests deliberate resolve rather than helplessness. Xinru’s immense power is paired with an increasingly aggressive mission to gather sariras and build her own Buddhist Pure Land.
Themes: The chapter contrasts worldly attachment with spiritual detachment, and outward religious authority with inner realization. Xinru’s claim to grant enlightenment and her coercive methods raise doubts about the legitimacy of her “Buddhist” movement, while the teaching that all worlds share one essential nature challenges rigid distinctions between sacred destinations.

Ch. 743Battling Xinru Again

Key events

  • Xin Ruyu visits Hundred Flowers Cave in the guise of a Daoist nun and demands that Master Youtan enter final nirvana, claiming she will fulfill his remaining wishes.
  • Youtan refuses and challenges Xin Ruyu’s claims to Buddhist legitimacy. Their debate exposes the gap between her sophisticated understanding of Buddhist doctrine and her coercive, self-serving conduct.
  • Unable to win the debate, Xin Ruyu attacks with a waterfall of tea transformed into countless Buddha-figures and seals the cave against escape.
  • The apparent Master Youtan reveals himself as Shi Feiyang, who had been waiting in disguise. He blocks her assault with three Tusita Divine Flames and a Twelve-Rank Lotus Throne, then traps her with ten blazing wheels of Purple-Green Tusita Fire.
  • Xin Ruyu escapes the cave using Mind-Light Escape, but the fire wheels follow her and surround her hundred-zhang golden body. Nearby worshippers are driven away to protect them. Allies recognize the flames and attack, but their weapons and spells are consumed.
  • Xin Ruyu uses the Seven-Treasure Golden Banner to crush and extinguish the ten wheels, ending Shi Feiyang’s attack for the moment.

Character developments and interactions

  • Xin Ruyu displays formidable doctrine, magical power, and confidence, but her refusal to humble herself or act in accordance with Buddhist teaching leaves her vulnerable in the debate. Frustrated by Youtan’s resistance, she turns to force.
  • Master Youtan remains composed and counters Xin Ruyu by highlighting how her actions contradict her professed beliefs. He is ultimately revealed to be Shi Feiyang in disguise.
  • Shi Feiyang demonstrates preparation and resourcefulness, matching Xin Ruyu’s powerful opening with a carefully devised trap and an unusually potent fire attack.
  • Xin Ruyu and her followers are shown in a tense contrast: while some followers mistake the fire for their Buddha’s power and praise it, experienced figures—including Zhu Youmu, E Shengfan, and Xie Shan—recognize it as Shi Feiyang’s Tusita Fire and join the fight.

Significant themes

  • Understanding versus practice: Great knowledge of doctrine does not guarantee virtuous conduct; Xin Ruyu’s actions undermine her claims.
  • Attachment to names and forms: Youtan challenges Xin Ruyu’s tendency to reframe distinctions as Buddhist truths while still clinging to hierarchy and self-importance.
  • Faith, authority, and deception: Xin Ruyu’s manufactured image as a Buddha depends on her followers’ belief, while Shi Feiyang uses disguise and strategy to confront her.
  • Power and protection: The battle threatens bystanders, and Xin Ruyu’s effort to shield her believers also reflects her need to preserve her image as an all-powerful protector.

Ch. 744Three Realms, Six Paths Reincarnation Wheel

Key plot points and events

  • Shi Feiyang arrives at Tide-Sound Cave before Nun Xinru can force Master Youtan into nirvana and take his sarira. Master Fentuo is there as well, but neither monk can match Xinru’s power, treasures, or promises of instant spiritual status. Her followers reject the monks’ warnings that her blessings are temporary and spiritually dangerous.
  • Accepting that Buddhism’s influence may have run its course, Fentuo and Youtan prepare to leave. Shi Feiyang instead uses his shapeshifting ability to take Youtan’s appearance and confront Xinru at the cave.
  • Disguised as Youtan, Shi Feiyang debates Xinru. He combines Buddhist terminology with Daoist ideas, particularly Zhuangzi’s philosophy, and defeats her argument that the Dharma Decline Age requires Youtan to enter nirvana. Xinru then attacks directly.
  • Shi Feiyang survives her All-Heavens, Ten-Thousand-Buddhas Great Repentance with the Tusita Fire and Five-Colored Lotus Throne, then counters with his Ten Suns’ Heavenly Punishment. Xinru escapes and extinguishes it with the Seven-Treasure Golden Banner.
  • Xinru reveals that her real target is Shi Feiyang: she wants his Dragon Pearl and Haotian Mirror, as well as Youtan’s sarira. She activates a formation prepared for him and tears more than half of Hundred Flowers Mountain into the sky.
  • Shi Feiyang breaks her Buddha-palm attack and supports the lifted mountain on five-colored clouds. Zhu Youmu and Xinru’s assembled followers attack. Shi Feiyang counters with a vast Great Five-Element Annihilation Divine Thunder Net, powerful enough to destroy most of Xinru’s “Golden Body Arhats.”
  • Xinru uses the Seven-Treasure Golden Banner to shield her followers and contain the thunder. Shi Feiyang then attacks with his upgraded Cosmic Light Disk. Xinru catches its beam in a wheel representing the three poisons—greed, hatred, and delusion—and sends the poisons back along it. Shi Feiyang burns them away with purple-green divine flame.
  • Xinru activates the wheel’s six-paths-of-reincarnation power, enveloping Shi Feiyang and the mountain in visions linked to past and possible future lives. The visions multiply into layered dimensions, threatening to draw him into the wheel.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang proves resourceful rather than relying only on force: he impersonates Youtan, wins the doctrinal debate, and adapts his powerful treasures and techniques to Xinru’s attacks. He emerges as Xinru’s principal rival and obstacle.
  • Xinru shifts from religious persuasion to open warfare when her arguments fail. Her desire to defeat Shi Feiyang is personal and strategic, and her immense power is paired with an ability to manipulate followers and spiritual doctrine.
  • Fentuo and Youtan recognize that they cannot compete with Xinru’s promises or strength. Fentuo accepts the decline of Buddhist faith as a natural cycle, while Shi Feiyang chooses to remain and fight.
  • Zhu Youmu eagerly initiates the assault after Shi Feiyang breaks Xinru’s Buddha palm, prompting the rest of the congregation to join in.
  • Shi Feiyang and Xinru display mutual awareness of their long rivalry: each understands the other’s signature powers and has prepared specifically to counter them.

Significant themes

  • Faith versus spectacle: Xinru’s easy promises attract followers more readily than the monks’ demanding path of gradual cultivation.
  • Religious decline and impermanence: Fentuo views the rise and disappearance of Buddhist teachings as dependent on the changing spiritual needs of the world.
  • Truth, persuasion, and power: Shi Feiyang’s debate temporarily prevents violence, but when argument fails, spiritual authority gives way to combat.
  • Illusion, attachment, and karmic cycles: Xinru’s false blessings and reincarnation wheel exploit people’s desires, fears, and attachments—even using apparently personal visions of past and future lives.

Ch. 745All-Heavens Divine Thunder

Key plot points and events

  • Xinru’s Six Paths Revolving Disc traps ordinary opponents in countless karmic visions, but Shi Feiyang resists because he has reached the Daoist state of “Seeing the Dao” and remains grounded in the Great Dao.
  • Using the Zhoutian Cosmic Light Disc, Shi Feiyang unleashes the All-Heavens Myriad Tribulations Formation: cycles of seasonal winds, rain, fire, and heavenly thunder threaten Xinru’s million followers. Xinru must spend her strength protecting them with the Seven-Treasure Golden Banner.
  • Shi Feiyang’s seven stellar attacks shatter the Six Paths Revolving Disc, destroying its visions and the Buddhist principles represented by its three poisons, six paths, and twelve links of dependent origination.
  • Xinru counters with her banner’s visions of Buddhas, whose palm strikes devastate Hundred Flowers Mountain. Shi Feiyang escapes the blows and answers with vastly amplified Purple-Green Divine Thunder drawn from nine heavenly firmaments.
  • As Xinru struggles to replenish her protective clouds, she reveals that she has sealed the area with the Ten-Directions World Womb Matrix Formation. She also claims Dharma King Xuanyuan has infiltrated Shi Feiyang’s faith and is attacking Heaven Beyond Divine Mountain.
  • Xinru proposes an alliance: she and Shi Feiyang would divide the realm and combine their followers and treasures to defeat their common enemies. Shi Feiyang remains silent until she invokes the Bodhi-Leaf Spirit Talisman. He challenges her to prove its reputed power by reversing time and returning to before she came to Hundred Flowers Mountain.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang demonstrates exceptional composure and command of Daoist principles, using the enemy’s followers as leverage and deploying increasingly powerful techniques. He does not respond to Xinru’s threats or offer of partnership, instead questioning the credibility of her treasure.
  • Nun Xinru shifts from confidence and outrage to a strained defensive position as she protects her followers. She reveals her preparations and turns to persuasion, offering shared power and a new world, but her sincerity remains in doubt.
  • Xinru and Shi Feiyang engage in both a magical duel and a contest of persuasion: she tries to overwhelm him, then recruit him; he answers by testing the truth of her claims.
  • Zhu Youmu, E Shengfan, and the other onlookers are stunned by the scale of Shi Feiyang’s thunder.

Significant themes

  • Daoist insight versus illusion: Seeing the Great Dao lets Shi Feiyang withstand worlds of karmic images that would ensnare others.
  • Power and responsibility: Xinru’s million followers are both a source of influence and a vulnerability, forcing her to defend them.
  • Religious and political ambition: Xinru’s proposed alliance promises a division of the world into rival spiritual realms, while Shi Feiyang’s challenge exposes the need to distinguish genuine power from grand claims.
  • Cosmic order and mastery: Shi Feiyang’s ability to draw on the energies of the heavens underscores his direct connection to the Great Dao, beyond reliance on divine intermediaries.

Ch. 746The Womb-Burial Formation

Key plot points and events

  • The chapter explains the origin of the Bodhi-Leaf Spirit Talisman: Shakyamuni made it from the leaf of the tree beneath which he attained enlightenment. It embodies his spiritual radiance and can reverse space-time only three times.
  • Nun Xinru stole the talisman from Master Fentuo, who had hoped to use it to preserve Buddhism’s future. Xinru reserved its limited uses for defeating enemies and surviving calamity.
  • Shi Feiyang anticipates Xinru’s schemes and organizes an assault on her stronghold at Mount Jiuhua. Jinxu Nu and seven allies attack the nine mountaintop temples, while Emei leader Li Yingqiong targets the formation’s vulnerable but dangerous peak.
  • The peaks’ temples and sarira-powered Buddha light form the Ten-Direction, Three-Realm, Six Paths of Reincarnation Womb-Burial Formation. Its many illusory layers can reduce even an immortal to an ordinary fetus trapped in ignorance. The attackers press in from all sides, overwhelming the formation’s ability to defend every peak.
  • Realizing Mount Jiuhua’s destruction will also collapse the formation protecting her at Hundred Flowers Mountain, Xinru recognizes that Shi Feiyang has outmaneuvered her. She uses the talisman to summon a vast Bodhi Tree and sweeps away his defenses, then tries to pull him into the formation’s space-time vortex.
  • Shi Feiyang sits on his Five-Colored Lotus and intensifies his divine flame. Xinru’s blow makes him vanish, but she cannot locate him—even with her Dharma sight—and suspects he has disguised himself as one of her enormous crowd of followers.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang demonstrates strategic foresight: he avoids being trapped in Xinru’s formation and coordinates a broad attack on its foundations. Though prepared for her talisman, he is surprised by the formation’s true danger and responds calmly.
  • Xinru shifts from confidence in her carefully planned defenses to alarm as her stronghold is attacked. She spends the talisman’s power to counter the immediate threat, but her uncertainty about Shi Feiyang’s disappearance leaves her vulnerable.
  • Li Yingqiong shows initiative and formidable skill by volunteering to assault the formation’s weak point alone.
  • The nine Orthodox Mystic Sect immortals cooperate, using their treasures and powers to break through the Buddha-light layers. Their coordinated assault exploits the formation’s inability to defend all nine peaks at once.
  • Master Fentuo’s earlier knowledge of the talisman and his calculations with Shi Feiyang, Perfected Red Staff, and Master Youtan help prepare Shi Feiyang, though not fully, for Xinru’s attack.

Significant themes

  • Strategy versus counter-strategy: Both Shi Feiyang and Xinru plan several moves ahead, but Shi Feiyang’s larger scheme undermines her carefully laid defenses.
  • Impermanence and the limits of power: The talisman, despite embodying enlightenment, has strictly limited uses; even immortals risk losing everything in the formation.
  • Ignorance and spiritual transformation: The womb-burial formation turns spiritual attainment back into helpless infancy, making “ignorance” both a Buddhist concept and a literal trap.
  • Faith as power and infrastructure: Xinru’s temples, sariras, and mass following are part of a practical magical system—and targets in a struggle over the future of Buddhist teaching.

Ch. 747The Heart Demon Alliance

Key plot points and events

  • Xinru searches her million followers for Shi Feiyang, convinced he is disguised among them, but finds no impostor. In reality, Shi has used the Seventy-Two Earthly Transformations to become a rock buried in the rubble of Tide-Sound Cave, where he watches and waits for Xinru to use her Bodhi-Leaf Spirit Talisman.
  • Xinru’s position grows precarious: Emei’s warriors are attacking Mount Jiuhua, where her eight sarira and religious stronghold are at risk. Rather than withdraw and defend it, she decides this may be her only chance to destroy Shi Feiyang.
  • Xinru contacts Deng Yin at Star Lodge Sea and offers the sarira as a reward for help defending Mount Jiuhua. She also tempts him with the chance to capture Emei’s leading disciples, reclaim the Purple Ying Sword, and turn the captives into powerful blood-demon incarnations.
  • Though Deng Yin cannot leave his preparations for a showdown with Divine Lord Giant Wood, he sends Chishi Divine Monarch, Nine-Li Divine Lord, Sand God Boy, and Shibi Old Man, each leading a hundred Blood Gods.
  • The demonic reinforcements interrupt the Emei group’s attempt to break Xinru’s formation and seize the sarira. The newcomers engage Jinxu Nu, Li Yingqiong, Deng Bagu, Fire Wuhai, and Zhu Changyuan.
  • Master Youtan then joins the battle, as Shi Feiyang had planned. Master Fentuo remains in reserve, awaiting his assigned signal.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang shows patience and strategic foresight: he hides where Xinru would not think to search and directs his allies to enter the battle in stages, aiming to force Xinru to expend her talisman rather than merely wound her.
  • Xinru remains confident in her magical scrutiny but grows increasingly anxious about her threatened sanctuary and the consequences of her accumulating evil karma. She bargains pragmatically with Deng Yin, appealing to his ambitions rather than asking for help outright.
  • Deng Yin is tempted by Xinru’s promised treasures and revenge against Emei, but stays to prepare for his own conflict and delegates the intervention.
  • Fentuo questions Shi’s restraint, believing both divine monastics could help directly. Youtan, by contrast, follows the plan and acts when his signal appears.
  • The two sides are bound by shared enemies, not trust: Xinru and Deng Yin cooperate for advantage while recognizing that they may later compete for power.

Significant themes

  • Deception and perception: Xinru’s confidence in distinguishing disguises blinds her to Shi’s actual form and hiding place.
  • Strategy over brute force: Shi’s concealment, staged reinforcements, and carefully chosen objective shape the battle more than direct confrontation.
  • Transactional alliances: Enemies cooperate when interests align, but their partnership remains temporary and self-serving.
  • Power and consequence: Xinru’s effort to “Buddhify” the world threatens to collapse, while her accumulated evil karma may ultimately bring ruin.

Ch. 748Heavenly Lust's Overwhelming Might

Plot and events

Master Youtan turns the battle at Mount Jiuhua by using his Separation and Reunion Divine Light to immobilize and destroy the Blood Shadows. Since their remnant souls could be recovered and revived by Deng Yin, he gathers them—along with the remnants from demons slain by others—into his Eighty-Eight Buddha Great Repentance Prayer Beads.
He then manifests eighty-eight towering Buddhas and presses them down against Xinru’s formation. Their power overwhelms the incomplete Buddhist façade, exposing the “Womb Burial” demonic formation beneath: a grotesque, blood-filled pit that sucks in its surroundings and echoes with the cries of god-demons and hungry ghosts. Yu Yingnan and the other attackers prepare to help destroy it once the Buddhas pin it down.
Xinru, meanwhile, cannot find Shi Feiyang and grows increasingly frantic. With her formation close to collapse, she abandons the search and summons Dharma King Xuanyuan, ordering him to kill Youtan and protect the formation.
Xuanyuan arrives as the vastly strengthened Heavenly Lust Cult Master, having fused with many incarnations and absorbed Jiang Xuejun’s memories and arts. He wants Xinru’s formation for his own purposes: unlike others, he believes he can survive its “reincarnation” process, regain a body, and use its power to consolidate and improve himself. His arrival darkens the sky and unleashes a terrifying demonic howl. He binds Youtan’s eighty-eight Buddhas in black misfortune threads packed with both Mystic-Yin and Soundless Divine Thunder. Youtan tries to burn the threats away, but all eighty-eight Buddha cocoons explode at once.

Character developments and interactions

  • Master Youtan demonstrates both overwhelming power and compassion: he destroys the Blood Shadows but preserves their helpless remnants for eventual deliverance. His Buddhist practice draws on the power of the Buddhas, unlike Xinru’s self-reliant imitation.
  • Xinru reveals the tension between her former Buddhist humility and her restored pride. She rejects external Buddha power, trusts only her own manifestations, and becomes desperate when her plan and formation are threatened.
  • The Heavenly Lust Cult Master / Dharma King Xuanyuan is revealed as stronger than his former self and increasingly dominant over Xuanyuan’s identity. He allies with Xinru out of self-interest and sees the Womb Burial formation as an opportunity, not a danger.
  • Yu Yingnan and the other attackers recognize Youtan’s breakthrough and prepare to coordinate with him against the formation.
  • Xuanyuan’s arrival forces Youtan’s assault onto the defensive, abruptly shifting momentum back to the demonic side.

Significant themes

  • True faith versus self-reliance: Youtan’s power combines personal cultivation with spiritual connection to the Buddhas; Xinru claims the Buddhas as her own manifestations and refuses their aid.
  • Compassion and redemption: Youtan captures even demonic remnants rather than allowing them to be reclaimed and revived.
  • Ambition and self-interest: Xuanyuan treats a horrific formation as a means to regain a body and increase his power.
  • Shifting power and fragile victory: The attackers seem close to breaking Xinru’s formation, but one powerful arrival reverses the battle in an instant.

Ch. 749The Buddhas of the Ten Directions and Three Ages Subdue Heavenly Lust

Key plot points and events

  • The Heavenly Lust Cult Master shatters Master Youtan’s eighty-eight golden Buddhas and prayer beads with Mystic-Yin and Soundless Divine Thunder, freeing the blood-shadow souls trapped inside. Youtan is badly outmatched, though Xin Ru’s formation regains its full Buddha light once the golden Buddhas are destroyed.
  • The Cult Master unleashes a vast tide of black fiend qi, supported by demon banners carrying thousands of sea-beast souls. Youtan’s Separation and Reunion Divine Light struggles to hold it back.
  • Master Fentuo enters the battle from the south. Using his Great Sumeru Divine Light, golden Mount Sumeru, Dharma Flower Vajra Wheel, and thunderous Buddhist flames, he drives the black fiend qi back.
  • Encouraged by Fentuo’s arrival, Youtan joins him in invoking the Buddhas of the ten directions and three ages. Their powers meet overhead as a golden bridge filled with Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Arhats, and blooming lotuses, pressing the Cult Master’s enormous cloud of fiend qi down.
  • The Cult Master’s banners and demon souls cannot break the suppression. In desperation, he releases Profound Yin True Water, merging it with his fiend qi to create a hovering black sea stretching ten thousand miles. He sends its waters against both Buddhist masters, and the danger escalates.

Character developments and interactions

  • Master Youtan recognizes that she cannot defeat the Cult Master alone. Fentuo’s intervention restores her confidence, and the two coordinate their chanting and spells with remarkable unity.
  • Master Fentuo reveals the full scale of his power, combining steadfast Sumeru light and sacred weapons with overwhelming offensive force. His disciple Yang Jin watches in awe and reflects on the spiritual distance between his own attainment and his master’s.
  • The Heavenly Lust Cult Master shifts from confident aggression to shock and anger as the Buddhist manifestations suppress his forces. His use of Profound Yin True Water shows his willingness to unleash a potentially world-destroying weapon rather than yield.
  • Youtan and Fentuo’s coordinated assault contrasts with the Cult Master’s isolated struggle to overcome their combined power.

Significant themes

  • Cooperation against overwhelming evil: The two masters’ combined strengths succeed where Youtan alone falters.
  • Different forms of spiritual power: Youtan’s light is adaptable and changeable, while Fentuo’s Sumeru light is stable and unyielding.
  • Faith made manifest: Buddhist doctrine—the Buddhas of space and time—becomes a literal force in the battle.
  • Escalation and collateral danger: The Cult Master’s true water threatens not only his opponents but the entire mortal world.

Ch. 750Perfected Red Staff Descended upon Mount Jiuhua

Summary

Key plot points and events

  • The Heavenly Lust Cult Master creates a vast, ten-thousand-mile “black sea” from mystic-yin fiend qi and profound yin true water. If it falls, it could destroy the Central Plains and turn countless souls into fiend demons.
  • Divine Nuns Fentuo and You Tan try to contain the sea with Buddha light, but the Cult Master attacks before they can complete their protective barrier. Thunder, fiendish water, and tentacles batter the Buddhas’ golden bridge and destroy the manifested Bodhisattvas and Arhats.
  • The golden lotuses left behind are corrupted into black lotuses, which produce thousands of the Cult Master’s powerful demon-god avatars and countless lesser demons. Together, they assault the bridge from above and below.
  • Master Fentuo deploys his Dharma Flower Vajra Wheel, which tears through many demons, while Fentuo and You Tan struggle to keep the black sea sealed. You Tan has lost her weapons and treasures, leaving her with only her Separation and Reunion Divine Light.
  • Perfected Red Staff arrives at Mount Jiuhua after the Cult Master openly engages the nuns. He intercepts Shibi Old Man’s attacks and tells Jinxu Nu to resume breaking Shibi’s formation and retrieving the sarira.
  • Perfected Red Staff unleashes a vast celestial array of fiery sun and moon discs against Shibi. Recognizing that Red Staff is far beyond him, Shibi refuses to retreat for fear of losing face and prepares a devastating, potentially suicidal Divine Thunder as a threat.

Character developments

  • Heavenly Lust Cult Master reveals the scale of his ambition and power, openly defying the Buddhas and seeking to destroy them and their followers. His ability to turn holy manifestations into demonic weapons makes him an especially dangerous opponent.
  • Fentuo demonstrates greater strength than You Tan, using his Vajra Wheel to attack the demons while helping contain the sea.
  • You Tan is badly depleted: her weapons and treasures are gone, and her remaining power is limited. Her Buddhist practice has already taught her to relinquish attachment to possessions, but she is now left with few means to fight.
  • Perfected Red Staff proves far stronger than Shibi expected, arriving only once the main battle is underway and immediately taking command of the confrontation.
  • Shibi Old Man realizes he cannot defeat Red Staff, but pride and concern for his reputation keep him from simply fleeing. He chooses intimidation over committing to a mutual-destruction attack.

Significant themes

  • Power and catastrophic consequences: The conflict threatens not merely its combatants but the entire Central Plains and its population.
  • Corruption of the sacred: The Cult Master turns golden lotuses and other Buddhist manifestations into sources of demonic power.
  • Pride versus survival: Shibi recognizes the odds but risks escalation rather than appear weak.
  • Selflessness and nonattachment: You Tan’s Buddhist discipline is reflected in her willingness to let go of possessions, though the loss of her tools leaves her vulnerable.
  • Strategic timing and divided attention: Perfected Red Staff waits until the Cult Master is occupied before leaving his post, then uses the opening to assist Jinxu Nu and confront Shibi.

Character interactions

  • Fentuo and You Tan intuitively cooperate to seal the black sea, and together call upon the Buddhas for aid.
  • The Heavenly Lust Cult Master taunts and attacks the Buddhas, while their remaining figures resist him from the golden bridge.
  • Perfected Red Staff coordinates with Jinxu Nu, assigning him to continue the sarira mission while he engages Shibi.
  • Shibi and Red Staff’s first exchange establishes a stark imbalance: Red Staff’s opening attack overwhelms Shibi, who responds by gathering his defenses and displaying his most dangerous weapon.

Ch. 751Heavenly and Earthly Wish-Granting Yin Thunder

Key plot points and events

  • Shibi Old Man unleashes ten of his Heavenly and Earthly Wish-Granting Yin Thunder Pearls, merging them with Demon Heads. Their blasts destroy Perfected Red Staff’s sun-and-moon defenses and tear through the Heavenly Lust Cult Master’s Black Sea.
  • The resulting explosions devastate Nun Xinru’s mountain formation. Its sacred Buddhist exterior collapses, exposing the bloody Demon Formation beneath. The blood pit begins swallowing the Black Sea and drawing in the Thunder Pearls.
  • Perfected Red Staff blocks Shibi from recalling the Pearls. Enraged, Shibi swallows his three mother thunders and uses the Heavenly Demon Disintegration Art, risking a catastrophic explosion.
  • Elsewhere, Xinru finds Shi Feiyang disguised among worshippers on Hundred Flowers Mountain. She traps him in her Womb Burial formation, then transports herself and the worshippers back to Mount Jiuhua.
  • On her return, Xinru’s Ten-Thousand-Buddhas Great Repentance drives back the defenders, including Master Youtan, Jinxu Nu, and the sword-wielding Li Yingqiong and Zhou Qingyun.
  • Xinru recognizes that Shibi’s mother and child thunders could destroy the sanctuary. She sends the mother thunders into the blood pit and lifts the ten child thunders toward the sky. When they enter the Black Sea, they sense the mother thunders being absorbed and detonate prematurely.

Character developments

  • Shibi Old Man escalates from a calculated attack to a desperate, self-sacrificing one after Perfected Red Staff turns his power against him. He realizes he has been manipulated but responds with defiance rather than retreat.
  • Perfected Red Staff proves tactically ruthless: he redirects the thunder’s force into the Black Sea and then prevents Shibi from controlling his weapons.
  • Nun Xinru shifts from pursuing Shi Feiyang to urgently managing the wider battle. Her decisive intervention averts the mother thunders’ full detonation, though she cannot prevent the child thunders from exploding.
  • Shi Feiyang is exposed despite his disguise and is captured in Xinru’s formation, leaving his immediate fate uncertain.

Significant themes

  • Power comes with catastrophic consequences: Shibi’s weapon is potent enough to threaten the world, but its force endangers allies and enemies alike.
  • Manipulation and tactical control: Perfected Red Staff and Xinru both redirect opponents’ power, turning raw strength into a strategic liability.
  • Sacrifice and desperation: Shibi gives up his body and merges his spirit with the mother thunders, accepting death in pursuit of a final strike.
  • Conflicting appearances: Xinru’s formation looks holy on the outside but conceals a blood-filled Demon Formation beneath, echoing the chapter’s recurring uncertainty about what lies behind appearances.

Character interactions

  • Shibi confronts Perfected Red Staff, threatening to unleash the mother thunders; Red Staff dismisses the threat and pushes him into a final escalation.
  • Xinru captures Shi Feiyang while attacking him with the Buddhas’ manifestations and the blood pit, then returns to Mount Jiuhua to aid the battle.
  • Xinru’s renewed attack forces the defenders to retreat, while her intervention also pits her against the uncontrolled thunder weapons as she tries to protect the sanctuary.

Ch. 752Demon Embryo

Plot points and events

  • Perfected Red Staff follows Shi Feiyang’s plan to make Shibi Old Man unleash his full power. Shibi’s three mother Thunder Pearls detonate inside the “Fetal Burial” cavern, while the ten son pearls explode in the Black Sea above.
  • The cavern’s immense suction draws the catastrophic flood of black water away from the mortal world, preventing mass death and stopping the Heavenly Lust Cult Master from gaining countless new demon servants.
  • Shibi’s blast cannot damage the cavern. His scattered primordial spirit is wrapped in flesh membranes, and he begins to be transformed into a demon embryo.
  • Shi Feiyang enters the cavern and uses Purple-Cyan Divine Fire to purify the Blood Lotus Calyx, stripping away its demonic corruption and restoring it to its original, pure state.
  • He then uses Shibi’s Golden Saber to cut open the fleshy enclosure. Finding Shibi already transformed into a fetus, Shi Feiyang slashes the demon embryo in two.

Character developments

  • Shi Feiyang is shown as a meticulous strategist whose calculations avert a world-ending disaster. He also demonstrates mastery of powerful techniques and the ability to purify even an ancient demonic treasure.
  • Perfected Red Staff sets aside his preferred plan and trusts Shi Feiyang, carrying out his role with precise timing and force.
  • Shibi Old Man is revealed as powerful but dangerously consumed by pride and wrath. Facing annihilation, he regrets the choices that brought him there, but too late to save himself.

Character interactions

  • Red Staff’s confidence in Shi Feiyang’s judgment shapes the operation; their coordinated actions exploit Shibi’s temperament and the enemies’ timing.
  • Shi Feiyang speaks over Shibi’s trapped form with pity and reproach, contrasting the refuge Shibi could have chosen with his disastrous alliance.
  • Shibi’s final, inward regret underscores the gap between his former arrogance and his helplessness.

Significant themes

  • Pride and consequences: Shibi’s refusal to change course contributes to his downfall.
  • Strategy and restraint: Carefully controlled force can avert catastrophe where direct confrontation might fail.
  • Purification and corruption: Shi Feiyang restores the lotus by burning away layers of demonic influence, suggesting that an object’s original nature can survive profound corruption.
  • Transformation and peril: The Fetal Burial cavern turns its victims into demon embryos, making survival depend on timely intervention.

Ch. 753Scheming Against Each Other

Plot points and events

  • Shi Feiyang destroys the demon embryo formed from Shibi Old Man’s body, burning away its flesh while protecting his primordial spirit with the Nine Heavens Primordial Yang Ruler and purple-green Tusita Fire.
  • He explains that Shibi’s new senses and thoughts came from Nun Xinru’s demonic formation. The resulting “rebirth” made him a being of her false Pure Land, trapped in illusion.
  • Using pure-yang energy to restore Shibi’s clarity, Shi Feiyang offers him a chance to abandon evil and join the Orthodox Mystic Sect. Shibi accepts, calling Shi his teacher. Shi returns his former weapons and Five Sacred Peaks, warning that Xinru may use the surviving demons against him.
  • Xinru’s Womb Burial formation surrounds them with bloody membranes and tendrils that try to grow onto their bodies. Shi Feiyang burns them away, then uses the Haotian Treasure Mirror and sword qi to navigate the formation’s shifting spaces.
  • The chapter reveals the rival schemes behind the conflict: Xinru wants profound yin true water to complete her Great Suchness Pure Land, while the Heavenly Lust Cult Master intends to seize the Womb Burial formation and turn it into his own immortal body. Each is letting the other advance while planning to exploit the moment.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shibi Old Man moves from a demon-driven state of confusion and rage to renewed awareness and remorse. Grateful for Shi Feiyang’s rescue, he repents and accepts discipleship, though he initially rejects the tools associated with his old life.
  • Shi Feiyang acts as both powerful adversary and compassionate guide: he defeats Shibi’s demonic state, explains his predicament, and offers him a path to redemption. He also equips Shibi for the danger still ahead.
  • Nun Xinru and the Heavenly Lust Cult Master are shown as calculating opponents whose cooperation is only a mask for mutual betrayal. Xinru plans to absorb the Cult Master into her formation; he expects her attention to be diverted so he can take control of it.

Significant themes

  • Appearance versus underlying reality: A world that seems defiled may be pure in essence, while Xinru’s glorious-looking “Pure Land” is demonic at its core.
  • Selfhood, death, and rebirth: The chapter presents rebirth as shaped by attachment to the self, and Shibi’s “new life” as a manipulated existence created by the formation.
  • Redemption and changed destiny: Shibi’s earlier choices led him astray, but Shi Feiyang’s intervention gives him another chance to turn toward good.
  • Deception and competing ambitions: The apparent allies Xinru and the Cult Master each scheme to take what the other values, making their alliance inherently unstable.

Ch. 754The Twelve-Rank Lotus Throne

Key plot points and events

  • Shi Feiyang enters the Heavenly Lust Cult Master’s enormous Black Sea, piercing the fetal membrane around it with his purple-green sword qi. The Cult Master senses him but waits in ambush.
  • Shi Feiyang sets out four lotus thrones—blue, red, white, and yellow—alongside the Cult Master’s Black Lotus. He adds Heavenly One True Water to the profound yin water, helping the lotuses grow from Ninth-Rank toward the far more powerful Twelve-Rank.
  • Shi Feiyang and the Cult Master cooperate to nourish the lotuses, though each plans to claim all five at the decisive moment. Xinru also hopes to seize them, but cannot intervene while beset by other enemies.
  • Outside the formation, four eminent Buddhist leaders attack Xinru. Perfected Red Staff stays out of their internal dispute and helps Jinxu Nu, Li Yingqiong, and their allies defeat Sand God Boy’s group, then use the terrain to form an attack against Xinru’s formation.
  • Xinru sends her stronger followers against Jinxu Nu’s group and deploys more than a million weaker devotees to constrain the Buddhist attackers, knowing they cannot freely slaughter them.
  • Once the Black Sea is absorbed, its demonic impurities are rejected by the lotuses and spread as black fiend qi. Shi Feiyang attacks the Cult Master’s Black Lotus with yellow sand, using earth to overcome water, and vast trees, using wood to drain water. The Cult Master’s black lotuses and demon forces are rapidly destroyed.
  • As the central Black Lotus faces imminent damage, the Cult Master produces the Zhunti Golden Alms Bowl, a powerful demon-catching relic from the Western Pole Religion.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang shows foresight and restraint: he aids even his rival’s Black Lotus to strengthen the shared resource, while positioning himself to take control later. He uses the lotuses’ elemental powers strategically.
  • The Heavenly Lust Cult Master remains a wary, calculating rival. He cooperates with Shi Feiyang only because their immediate goals align, then counters the attack with a potent hidden treasure.
  • Xinru abandons her benevolent “Buddha” persona under pressure. Her willingness to sacrifice followers exposes her indifference to them and her use of religious promises as manipulation.
  • Perfected Red Staff avoids intervening in Buddhist factional affairs but actively supports the opposing group against Xinru’s allies.
  • The Buddhist attackers are constrained by the presence of Xinru’s massed followers, while Shi Feiyang and the Cult Master turn from temporary collaborators toward an inevitable struggle over the lotuses.

Significant themes

  • Temporary alliances and competing ambitions: Cooperation is tactical, not trusting; both Shi Feiyang and the Cult Master expect to betray the arrangement.
  • Faith as manipulation: Xinru’s promise of a splendid Buddhist afterlife masks her disregard for her followers’ lives.
  • Purity versus corruption: The lotuses absorb nourishing water but reject demonic impurities, symbolizing their resistance to evil and turbid forces.
  • Strategic use of opposing forces: Elemental principles and battlefield constraints—such as earth overcoming water, wood draining water, and compassion limiting slaughter—shape the conflict.

Ch. 755The Vast and Boundless Buddhist Pure Land of Suchness

Chapter summary

Key plot points and events

  • The Heavenly Lust Cult Master uses the Zhunti Golden Alms Bowl to absorb Shi Feiyang’s attacks, including his yellow sand, green vines, sword qi, and Suiren Fire Drill.
  • He creates multiple avatars to fight Shi Feiyang’s incarnations on the Red, White, Green, and Yellow Lotus Thrones. Shibi Old Man helps Shi Feiyang’s weaker Red Lotus incarnation, while the White and Green Lotus incarnations hold their own.
  • On the Yellow Lotus, Shi Feiyang destroys one of the Cult Master’s avatars with the Haotian Treasure Mirror and Cosmic Light Disk. The Cult Master then brings his true self into the fray, intending to defeat Shi Feiyang across all five lotuses before the battle outside can be decided.
  • Shi Feiyang reveals his hidden trump card: Three Luminaries Divine Water, secretly mixed into his earlier attacks. It has already been linked to his essence and used to transform and nourish the Five-Element Lotus Thrones.
  • Once the water is revealed, all five lotuses respond to Shi Feiyang and vanish into his control, including the Black Lotus the Cult Master had held for generations. The Cult Master is shocked and enraged.
  • The Cult Master attacks with countless monstrous arms and demons. Shi Feiyang counters with the Great Five-Element Annihilation Divine Thunder Net and purple-green divine fire. Their immense power shatters the Demon-Nurturing Space.
  • The collapse reveals Nun Xinru’s Great Suchness Pure Land: a Buddhist realm of pools, lotus flowers, treasure-laden trees, and golden light. Those captured by her Womb Burial Demon Formation are reborn as infants in lotus blossoms and grow according to their former cultivation and power. The Pure Land remains unfinished; Xinru plans to expand it after defeating Shi Feiyang and gathering the ten sarira.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang reveals that his apparent difficulty was deliberate. He had concealed the divine water and waited until the Cult Master’s true self entered the Yellow Lotus before taking control of all five lotuses.
  • The Heavenly Lust Cult Master proves formidable and strategic, but his confidence in his superior cultivation leads him to underestimate Shi Feiyang’s preparation. Losing the Black Lotus provokes a furious, desperate assault.
  • Shibi Old Man supports Shi Feiyang’s Red Lotus incarnation despite his depleted vitality, helping it resist the Cult Master’s attack.
  • Nun Xinru is not present in the main duel, but her formation and planned Pure Land frame the conflict and its consequences.

Significant themes

  • Patience and concealed strategy: Shi Feiyang wins the decisive advantage by hiding his true weapon and manipulating the timing of the confrontation.
  • Transformation through harmony: The union of water and fire elevates Shi Feiyang’s cultivation and turns the lotus thrones into a greater power.
  • Power and overconfidence: The Cult Master’s strength is substantial, but his belief that he has the advantage blinds him to Shi Feiyang’s hidden plan.
  • Rebirth and spiritual control: Xinru’s Pure Land offers a striking vision of rebirth, but it is also a mechanism for capturing and reshaping those caught in her formation.

Ch. 756Heavenly Demon Meditation Chant

Key plot points and events

  • Shi Feiyang and the Heavenly Lust Cult Master enter Nun Xinru’s Great Suchness Pure Land, where Xinru’s vows have created a realm without animals or the traditionally defined “five-leak” female body.
  • The Cult Master unleashes his Mystic-Yin God-Demon Banners, killing tens of thousands of boys and capturing their spirits, despite their pleas to Xinru.
  • Outside the Pure Land, Master Ren tries to reclaim Xie Shan and his daughters, Xie Ying and Xie Lin, who have taken refuge with Xinru. Her appeals—doctrinal, practical, and based on their former family ties—fail. The three reject her, and a fight begins.
  • Xinru’s Seven-Treasure Golden Banner empowers the Xie family and suppresses Master Ren, whose strength remains diminished after her earlier battle with Deng Yin.
  • Ye Bin arrives to help Master Ren, but Xinru’s Buddha light revives Ye Bin’s resentment toward Deng Bagu over the theft of her treasures. Ye Bin attacks Deng Bagu instead.
  • Fentuo and Youtan chant Buddhist meditations to counter Xinru’s influence. E Shengfan answers with the demonic Heavenly Demon Meditation Chant, summoning empowered demon-god manifestations and armies. The competing chants create a chaotic magical struggle.
  • Xinru realizes her larger plan is failing: she has lost the eight sariras, the outer Buddhist formation is broken, and Shi Feiyang has collected all five lotuses using the three luminaries divine water. Without the lotuses, she cannot readily merge the Pure Land with the world and extend her influence.
  • Although Xinru retains a battlefield advantage, her strategic aim is thwarted. She activates the Bodhi-Leaf Spirit Talisman to reverse space-time and start again.

Character developments and interactions

  • Master Ren moves from persuasion to force when Xie Shan and his daughters refuse to return. Her past bond with Xie Shan and the daughters’ former lives cannot overcome their present religious commitments.
  • Xie Shan, Xie Ying, and Xie Lin demonstrate firm devotion to Xinru. Xie Lin declares that attaining Buddhahood and later saving her parents is the truest form of filial duty.
  • Ye Bin is quickly diverted from her mission by old anger toward Deng Bagu, showing how Xinru can exploit personal vulnerabilities.
  • E Shengfan reveals his ingenuity by twisting Buddhist texts into a demonic system of worship and spellcraft, using corrupted doctrine to summon supernatural allies.
  • Xinru remains powerful but is frustrated that battlefield success cannot compensate for the failure of her central strategic objective.

Significant themes

  • Persuasion versus indulgence: The chapter contrasts Buddhism’s demanding counsel of renunciation with demonic magic’s appeal to immediate desires.
  • Faith and manipulation: Xinru, the Buddhist teachers, and the demonic forces all use doctrine and spiritual influence to shape allegiance.
  • Identity, gender, and doctrine: The Pure Land’s gender hierarchy is framed as a consequence of mental qualities rather than physical sex, reflecting the chapter’s Buddhist cosmology.
  • Attachment and loyalty: Past family ties prove weaker than present vows and beliefs.
  • Strategic victory versus tactical advantage: Xinru can dominate parts of the battle yet still suffer defeat because she fails to secure the five lotuses needed for her larger plan.

Ch. 757Illusory Wave Treasure Lotus

Key plot points and events

  • Nun Xinru uses the Bodhi-Leaf Spirit Talisman for the second of its three time-and-space reversals. Buddha light rewinds the battlefield, returning the combatants and their surroundings to their earlier locations and state.
  • Still determined to obtain the five lotus thrones, Xinru realizes she needs a way to counter Shi Feiyang’s combination of Three Luminaries Divine Water and Purple-Green Divine Flame.
  • She transports her followers to the abandoned Illusory Wave Pool and uses the Seven-Treasure Golden Banner, Buddha light, and the Five Directional Buddhas to take control of its five caverns and their ancient anchoring treasures. She transforms the entire site into the Illusory Wave Treasure Lotus, a golden lotus that can help neutralize Shi’s powers.
  • The Emei Sect learns of her arrival but decides not to intervene. The elders fear that confronting Xinru would leave them vulnerable to Blood God Lord Deng Yin; they choose to wait for an opportunity to reclaim the Pool or strike elsewhere.
  • Xinru returns to Hundred Flowers Mountain alone, sends her followers back to protect Mount Jiuhua, and seals the mountain with the Ten Directions, Three Times Embryonic Burial Formation so Shi Feiyang cannot escape.
  • Disguised as Daoist nun Master Youtan, Shi Feiyang remains inside Tide-Sound Cave. Xinru enters after he politely invites her in, intending to suppress the mountain with her banner and capture him before he can use his abilities.

Character developments and interactions

  • Nun Xinru grows more cautious and strategic after her previous failure. Rather than relying on force and ceremony, she prepares a specialized countermeasure and separates her followers from the coming confrontation.
  • Shi Feiyang is revealed to be impersonating Master Youtan and lying in wait, though the chapter ends before their confrontation begins.
  • The Emei leaders, especially Qi Shouming, Zhu Mei, and Xun Lanyin, weigh the danger and restrain Li Yingqiong’s eagerness to attack. Their choice reflects the sect’s weakened position and defensive priorities.
  • Xinru’s followers support her through collective chanting and vow power, helping her transform the Illusory Wave Pool; she then returns them to Mount Jiuhua to guard the sariras.

Significant themes

  • Preparation versus overconfidence: Xinru’s earlier failure teaches her to plan around Shi Feiyang’s specific abilities.
  • Power and impermanence: The Pool’s ancient treasures are formidable in origin but steadily lose their power in the mortal world.
  • Strategic restraint: Emei declines a direct fight, recognizing that survival may matter more than defending an empty sanctuary.
  • A looming contest of deception and control: Xinru’s disguise, Shi’s impersonation, and the sealed battlefield set up a clash in which neither can easily escape or act freely.

Ch. 758Turning Back the Light, Battling Again at Hundred Flowers Mountain

Key plot points

  • Nun Xinru returns to Tide-Sound Cave and attacks Master Youtan, believing him to be Shi Feiyang in disguise. Their Buddhist techniques clash so fiercely that Hundred Flowers Mountain is shattered.
  • Xinru realizes Youtan is not Shi Feiyang. He reveals that Shi came earlier and has already left. Xinru continues attacking Youtan while searching for Shi.
  • Master Fentuo, Chan Master Kongtuo, Nameless Chan Master, and Nameless’s six disciples arrive to break Xinru’s Fetal Burial Formation. Rather than let them dismantle it, Xinru draws them inside, intending to turn all ten into Physical-Body Sariras.
  • Xinru’s warning sense tells her that Shi has gone to Mount Jiuhua to raid her stronghold. She nevertheless presses her attack, judging the chance to eliminate the Buddhist masters too important to lose, and summons Deng Yin’s aid.
  • At Jiuhua, Shi arrives with disciples and allies to confront Xinru’s million followers. His party battles the defenders, including E Shengfan and Zhu Youmu.
  • E Shengfan summons Heavenly Demon Gods through the Heavenly Demon Zen Chant. Shi confronts him with the Blood Demon True Scripture and begins using the Heavenly Secret-Demon Divine Art to subdue his former subordinate.

Character developments and interactions

  • Xinru grows increasingly desperate and ruthless. She is alarmed to find Shi has outmaneuvered her, but her ambition to destroy Buddhism’s remaining strength keeps her fighting at Hundred Flowers Mountain.
  • Youtan withstands Xinru’s superior power through defensive Buddhist treasures and borrowed Orthodox Buddhist strength. He calmly clarifies that he is not Shi and explains Shi’s departure.
  • Fentuo and the other Buddhist masters unite to break Xinru’s formation, demonstrating the power of coordinated Orthodox practice. Xinru responds by trapping them instead.
  • E Shengfan openly rejects Shi, calling Xinru his protector and threatening Shi’s followers. His bravado rests on his faith in Xinru’s backing.
  • Shi Feiyang remains composed despite E Shengfan’s insults. He asserts his authority as E Shengfan’s former master and displays mastery by combining immortal qi with a supreme demonic art without suffering backlash.
  • At Jiuhua, Shi’s allies divide to meet the defenders: Jinxu Nu engages E Shengfan, while Zhu Changyuan faces Zhu Youmu, with Fire Wuhai and Deng Bagu rushing to support Zhu Changyuan.

Significant themes

  • Control and miscalculation: Xinru’s attempt to dictate events leaves her vulnerable to Shi’s unexpected raid.
  • Power through cooperation: The Buddhist masters’ combined effort threatens a formation that none could break alone.
  • Conflicting loyalties and authority: E Shengfan’s allegiance to Xinru challenges Shi’s claim over his former subordinate.
  • Integration beyond orthodox categories: Shi’s ability to unite immortal and demonic techniques suggests that mastery can transcend conventional divisions.

Ch. 759Blood Demon True Scripture

Key plot points and events

  • The Blood Demon True Scripture manifests the Red Flower Princess, who uses a curse devised by Shi Feiyang to attack E Shengfan. The scripture is a powerful new fusion of two demonic texts and incorporates three All-Heavens Mystic-Demon Shuttles.
  • E Shengfan’s vast golden body begins bleeding and splitting apart. His Buddhist protections and demonic techniques cannot stop the curse, which exploits his former bond to the Demon God Scripture.
  • Shi Feiyang explains that E Shengfan’s attempt to combine Buddhism and demonic magic was fundamentally flawed: he lacked both a firm Buddhist foundation and the insight needed to reconcile the opposing traditions.
  • Desperate, E Shengfan sacrifices himself to draw the heavenly demons into his body and attack Shi Feiyang. The stronger demons, including Poxun and Moxi, sense the danger and retreat, but the others enter him.
  • Shi Feiyang awakens E Shengfan’s Buddhist thoughts, turning his inner struggle into a battle between Buddha and demon. He then triggers the final talisman, causing E Shengfan’s golden body to explode.
  • Shi Feiyang captures the demons and the remains with the Secret Demon Method and refines them in Grand Void Fiendfire, drawing the resulting blood qi into the scripture.

Character developments

  • Shi Feiyang demonstrates mastery of the Dao, using his understanding of the principles behind Buddhist and demonic arts to create a tailored curse and control the confrontation.
  • E Shengfan shifts from confident defender to terrified, desperate combatant. His forced synthesis of incompatible disciplines proves unstable, and his final sacrifice only gives Shi Feiyang an opportunity to defeat and exploit him.
  • The Red Flower Princess serves as the scripture’s instrument, channeling the Blood Demon Divine Curse and marking the heavenly demons with talismans.
  • Poxun and Moxi show caution and self-preservation by fleeing once they recognize that Shi Feiyang has turned the situation against them.

Significant themes

  • Understanding versus accumulation of power: E Shengfan possesses formidable abilities but lacks the insight to unite them; Shi Feiyang’s deeper understanding lets him overcome superior defenses.
  • The incompatibility of opposing paths: Buddhist discipline and demonic desire undermine one another when practiced without a foundation capable of reconciling them.
  • Attachment and consequence: E Shengfan’s old bond to the Demon God Scripture becomes the means by which Shi Feiyang controls his fate.
  • Sacrifice and entrapment: E Shengfan’s attempt to empower himself by inviting demons into his body binds them to the consequences of his sacrifice.

Character interactions

  • Shi Feiyang taunts E Shengfan’s ambition and treats him as someone who cannot escape his control.
  • E Shengfan answers with a desperate attack, urging the demons to join him, while Shi Feiyang counters by activating the Buddhist teachings within his mind.
  • The demons’ responses divide them: the powerful flee, while the others accept E Shengfan’s offering and are caught in Shi Feiyang’s trap.

Ch. 760Demon King Papiyan

Key plot points and events

  • Shi Feiyang traps E Shengfan and more than a thousand other demons inside his newly integrated Demon Scripture. Red Flower Princess fights E Shengfan there, while Shi Feiyang strengthens her with the Blood Demon Divine Curse.
  • Shi Feiyang also uses the curse to seize Demon King Poxun in her palace in the Heaven of Freely Enjoying Others’ Emanations. She resists, but his Golden Immortal power seals the palace and threatens to pull her into the scripture.
  • Shi Feiyang subdues E Shengfan with the Purple-Green Tusita Fire, then offers him a chance to live: capture Poxun and bring her back.
  • E Shengfan is sent to Poxun’s palace. Although tempted to remain in the heavenly realm, he obeys Shi Feiyang and attacks her, combining Buddhist and demonic techniques under Shi Feiyang’s guidance.
  • Poxun’s attendants are drawn into the scripture when they try to help. She summons eight Demon Kings, three hundred generals, and ten million soldiers to break the seal; the battle remains unresolved.

Character developments and interactions

  • Shi Feiyang demonstrates overwhelming authority over the demons, using the scripture, his blood, and the Tusita Fire to control them. He turns E Shengfan’s plea for mercy into a test of obedience.
  • E Shengfan shifts from defiant captive to fearful, coerced servant. He attacks his former idol, Poxun, despite his reluctance, because Shi Feiyang can punish him at will.
  • Poxun moves from confident Demon King to a besieged opponent, trapped in her own palace and forced to call for reinforcements.
  • Red Flower Princess is empowered by Shi Feiyang and continues her struggle against E Shengfan, though she cannot defeat him without his aid.

Significant themes

  • Power and control: Shi Feiyang’s Golden Immortal strength lets him command demons across realms and turn their own methods against them.
  • Obedience and coercion: E Shengfan’s “chance” to reform is really an order backed by the threat of torture.
  • Faith and technique in tension: E Shengfan’s Buddhist and demonic powers once clashed, but surrendering his will to Shi Feiyang allows him to use both together.
  • The reversal of hierarchy: A lower-realm master sends his captive to arrest a ruler of the heavenly demon realm, overturning the usual order of authority.
