Truth-Seeking Dao Attainment fails 835 The actual Thunder Gate Pivot manifests and strikes him with backlash. Qin explicitly confirms that he has failed; no True Lord breakthrough is documented.

Background / History

Qin Tianyi begins as a farmer and rises to Heavenly Being status as a rogue cultivator. His achievements earn him considerable prestige in the Ya Kingdom, where he expects to be treated with respect despite lacking an aristocratic lineage 143 162.

His original Radiant Thunder Immortal Scripture contains only a Qi Refining section, leaving him without instructions for Heavenly Being cultivation. Unable to advance through a corresponding method, he concentrates on developing Divine Wonders to improve his fighting strength. This explains his unusually high Daoist attainment while still at the early stage 144.

Appearance

Qin deliberately maintains the appearance of an elderly Daoist. At roughly two hundred years old, he is still considered young among the Five Realms’ cultivators and could restore a youthful appearance with a thought 138 554.

  • Aged face and beard: He frequently strokes his beard when pleased or thinking 186 577.
  • Purple Daoist robe: His customary clothing during battles and his truth-seeking preparations 526 711 822.
  • First God Cult black robes: Worn after his appointment as Divine General Qin; they conceal his appearance, aura, and Heavenly Being imago 697.

Personality

Qin combines pride in his self-made achievements with a strong instinct for survival. He resents insults, remembers grievances, and enjoys opportunities to reassert his reputation. His anger at Wenren Qihan prompts a surprise attack, while his pursuit of Li Jiansong becomes a chance to recover the dignity lost during several humiliating encounters 162 168 631.

He is also calculating and suspicious. Qin tests Zhang Yuan before accepting dangerous assignments, keeps escape routes open, and readily feigns injury or exhaustion to shift responsibility onto someone stronger. His claim to have spent his last strength fighting Juesheng True Person is transparently an act to Zhang 166 526.

His caution does not prevent ambition or loyalty. He ruthlessly removes a rival for his intended metal position, yet warns Zhang while under the Great Heng Empress’s coercion and later protects him with the Thunder Gate’s remaining power. Their friendship develops through mutual exploitation, practical cooperation, and genuine assistance rather than unquestioning trust 588 772 773 834.

Abilities & Skills

Thunderous Rumbling

Thunderous Rumbling is Qin’s signature evasive Divine Wonder, transforming him into lightning or countless azure electrical arcs 163 711.

  • Has a forty-percent chance of evading any Heavenly Being-level means and can be activated repeatedly 711.
  • Allows Zhang Yuan’s Three-Colored Radiance to pass through his lightning form without harming him 185.
  • Keeps him out of Juesheng True Person’s grasp for nearly an entire day 523.
  • Does not guarantee safety: the Seven-Hued Brocade repeatedly injures him during the Sea Clan palace battle 711 712.
  • Is not exempt from restrictions on divine powers; his attempt to use a Divine Wonder on Junya Mountain earns him a punishing lightning strike 139.

Thunder Methods

Qin uses azure and purple lightning for direct attacks, destruction, and shaping temporary weapons 162 709 711.

  • Launches surprise Palm Thunder attacks while distracting opponents with insults 162.
  • Annihilates attacking Sea Clan souls with thunderbolts released from his sleeves 707.
  • Shapes azure lightning into swords for Zhang Yuan to wield 709 710.
  • Destroys palace walls with purple lightning, exposing Hai Dengshen and his captives 711.
  • At Heavenly Being Perfection, his killing power remains below leading specialists such as Zhang Yuan and Wenren Shangzhi; his techniques are not primarily focused on slaughter 811.

Thunder Soldiers and Generals

An unnamed Divine Wonder turns stored thunderbolts into soldiers and generals armed with lightning-forged sabers, spears, swords, and halberds 813.

  • Replenishes its ranks immediately after they are destroyed 813.
  • Holds Deng Qiuzhi back long enough for Zhang Yuan to advance toward the temple summit 813.
  • Provides persistent pressure rather than sufficient force to overcome Deng’s thunder-resistant physique 813.

Thunder Gate Pivot

During truth-seeking, Qin commands an imago of the concealed metal position Thunder Gate Pivot. This is distinct from attaining the position itself 828 829.

  • His ritual treats the Nether Bureau’s Ghost Deities as evil spirits to align their destruction with the Thunder Method 828.
  • Destroys the Day Patrol Deity and attacks Ghost Deities concealed behind the Nether Bureau’s eastern gate 828.
  • Blasts attacking perfection-level Heavenly Beings ten thousand li away 829.
  • Naturally counters evil spirits and foul things, reducing the First God’s blood vessels and portions of his blood-red net to ashes 834.
  • Its remaining imago dwindles to one tenth during the confrontation with the First God 834.
  • The real metal position’s manifestation ultimately delivers backlash against Qin for his failed truth-seeking 835.

Movement and Physical Resilience

  • Sky Traversal: Used for aerial movement, but suppressed within the Buddhist kingdom 185 786.
  • Great Void travel: Provides an escape route when access is not sealed; Qin uses it to withdraw from his staged fight with Zhang 525 588.
  • Heavenly Being physique: Retains extraordinary physical strength even when Junya Mountain suppresses his cultivation and disables his divine powers 144 145.
  • Vitality: Recovers rapidly from forceful Seven-Hued Brocade lashes that lack the treasure’s additional wondrous effects 712.

Concealment and Special Techniques

  • Layers several methods to obscure karma and prevent eavesdropping before discussing Dao attainment with Zhang 818.
  • Receives a Great Heng imperial secret art from Tan Yuming that lets him use Thunderous Rumbling despite partial suppression by the Evil-Warding Law-Suppressing Stone 573.
  • Recognizes Zhang through First God Cult robes even though the cult master cannot see through their concealment; the mechanism is not explained 603.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Radiant Thunder Immortal Scripture — His original cultivation method. Its incomplete inheritance leaves him without a Heavenly Being cultivation section 144.
  • Radiant Thunder Pivot Immortal-Shaking Scripture — The complete method Zhang obtains at Junya Mountain and gives him in the East Sea. Qin returns the original manual to Zhang after his failed truth-seeking 145 186 835.
  • Innate True Treasure hairpin — Bought as a gift for Zhang. Qin initially withholds it upon seeing Xiao Yuanjun and the Cui cousins together, then presents it later in a sandalwood box 154 157 186.
  • Eastern Sink Pavilion secret art — An enigmatic sheet marked with eighteen numbers, purchased as another gift for Zhang 154 157.
  • First God Cult black robes — Conceal his identity, aura, and imago. Qin values them as a disguise for escaping trouble or concealing responsibility for seizing opportunities 697.
  • Geng Metal — A sought-after cultivation resource. The portion taken from the Pure-Name Pagoda completes his requirements for Heavenly Being Perfection 789 790 811.
  • Truth-Seeking Canon — Given to him by Zhang; helps motivate his decision to attempt Dao attainment 818.
  • Lightning sphere — A transparent, fist-sized sphere containing his azure lightning, purple lightning, and the bronze Thunder Gate’s purple divine thunder. He hands it to Zhang while weakening after the backlash 835.

Relationships

  • Zhang Yuan — His principal ally and “old friend.” Their first contact involves Qin exposing Zhang’s concealment to divert attention, but they become recurring partners. Zhang supplies his complete cultivation method and guards his truth-seeking; Qin warns Zhang under coercion and later shields him with thunder 138 186 588 825 834.
  • Xiao Yuanjun — Zhang’s master. Qin resents her and Zhang watching his struggle against Wenren Qihan rather than immediately helping 163.
  • Deng Qiuzhi — Enemy whom Qin blames for shifting karma onto him and causing a Nether Bureau pursuit. Qin gloats over Deng’s imprisonment and later tries to restrain him in battle 186 271 813.
  • Wenren Xuange — Pursues Qin on Junya Mountain. Qin leads him toward Zhang and urges a joint attack 142.
  • Wenren Qihan — A Late Heavenly Being True Dragon who threatens Qin for using the Dragon Clan’s inherited thunder method 162.
  • Wenren Shangzhi — Uneasy treasure-hunting collaborator. Qin steals his severed head as bait, then returns it after drawing him and Zhang to an ancient True Dragon Palace 654 655 656.
  • Tan Yuming — Employs Qin as a guest official in exchange for a needed cultivation resource and teaches him an imperial secret art 573 576.
  • Great Heng Empress — Coerces Qin into assassination and capture missions through a restriction capable of destroying his primordial spirit and Sea of Consciousness 577 588.
  • Yu Lian — Fellow First God Cult Divine General. Provides Qin’s black robes and later supports his preparations for truth-seeking 697 822.
  • Li Chuanqi — Rival in a Path Contest. Qin helps Zhang kill him, destroys his soul, and eliminates his thunder scripture to prevent another competitor from inheriting the same path 772 773.
  • Unnamed Western Bian Chu True Lord — Arranges Qin’s pursuit of Thunder Gate Pivot. The patron’s individual identity is not established; Cloud-Shoal Radiance denies personally directing him 829.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Junya Mountain and the Complete Inheritance

Qin appears among the Heavenly Beings investigating Junya Mountain’s treasure light. Despite his early-stage realm, Shen Qiulan and Pei Chongtian respect his superior Daoist attainment. He notices Zhang observing him and loudly pretends to recognize an old friend, exposing Zhang to the gathered cultivators 137 138.

His rush to exploit the mountain’s inheritance goes badly: he misjudges its restrictions, is struck by lightning, and later flees Wenren Xuange toward Zhang. Zhang reaches the summit first and obtains the complete scripture Qin needs. Qin consequently accepts a dangerous helping role in Zhang’s next expedition while hoping to secure the method 139 142 145 157.

East Sea and Qinghe City

After fleeing a Nether Bureau Inspector that mistakes him for Deng Qiuzhi, Qin coordinates with Zhang to sever and retrieve its arm before escaping into the Upside-Down Sea. Zhang then gives him the complete scripture, partly to avoid its karmic burden 185 186.

In Qinghe City, Qin instinctively avoids Zhang’s ghost disguise. Later, he guides Zhang through the Great Prison and participates in the rescue of selected prisoners. Zhang requires him to remain for the confrontation with Lu Qingwu as repayment for his own rescue; once his part is done, Qin hides from the more dangerous battle 251 271 272 280.

Colorful Mist City

Qin shelters survivors with his thunder powers while trapped in Colorful Mist City. He rescues Xia Ying and her companions after noticing Xia Ying’s karmic connection to Zhang, hoping that Zhang will arrive to help 520.

His evasive Divine Wonder sustains a prolonged deadlock against Juesheng True Person. After Zhang arrives and the Great Void seal disappears, Qin gains an escape route, but still ends up struck by the Blood-Mud Giant. He pretends to have exhausted his strength and passes Zhang a conspicuously tiny remnant of lightning power 521 522 523 525 526.

Great Heng and Imperial Coercion

A sensed opportunity leads Qin to Tan Yuming’s Geng Metal and into service as his guest official. On encountering Zhang on the opposing side, Qin abandons a public confrontation and flees rather than fight him 562 576.

His attempt to retrieve the Geng Metal from the Eastern Palace instead brings him face-to-face with the Empress. She pays him but imposes a lethal spiritual restriction, ordering him to kill royal heirs and capture Zhang. Qin subsequently communicates a coded warning to Zhang during an apparent hostile visit; the two stage a genuine clash so his withdrawal will not expose the warning 577 588.

Treasure Expeditions and the First God Cult

Qin engineers cooperation at an ancient True Dragon Palace by drawing Zhang and Wenren Shangzhi there to handle restrictions he cannot remove alone. His own lightning proves unable to breach the palace walls 655 656 657.

Later, while trying to leave the dangerous contest for the Central Lands Imago, he encounters Zhang and reluctantly becomes Divine General Qin. He finds consolation in the cult robes’ powerful concealment 697.

During a Sea Clan ruins expedition, Qin supplies lightning swords, exposes Hai Dengshen’s ritual chamber, and provokes the Seven-Hued Brocade into attacking. Zhang’s redirection sends one lash into Qin, whose trust collapses. Repeated lashes fail to kill him, and he eventually retaliates against Hai before agreeing to spare him for questioning 709 710 711 712.

Removing a Dao Rival

While preparing for a Path Contest, Qin unexpectedly encounters Zhang fleeing Li Chuanqi. After learning Li’s present body is much weaker than his retained past-life techniques, Qin agrees to join the battle 770 771.

He destroys Li’s soul and only then reveals their competing Dao paths, preventing Zhang from using that information to demand more compensation. Qin also obtains and deliberately destroys Li’s thunder scripture, disguising the destruction as an elderly man’s accidental loss of control 772 773.

Perfection and Failed Truth-Seeking

Qin obtains Geng Metal in the Pure-Name Pagoda and refines it to reach Heavenly Being Perfection. He then helps Zhang seize the Truth-Seeking Canon at the Demon King Sun-Eroding Temple 789 790 811 813.

Soon afterward, he asks Zhang to act as his Dharma Protector. Qin hopes a rapid attempt will catch his hidden patron off guard, while Zhang agrees both to assist him and to learn from the ritual. Qin offers complete disclosure of his preparations and a lead on profound yang life qi in return 818 819.

His ritual draws out Thunder Gate Pivot and initially overwhelms the Heavenly Beings trying to stop him. The True Lords discuss undermining the ritual by introducing an evil being he cannot destroy 825 828 829 830.

Qin uses the gate’s dwindling power to protect Zhang and pursue the First God, briefly exploiting that ancient being’s caution with a bluff. The actual metal position then manifests and unleashes divine thunder against Qin. He confirms his truth-seeking has failed and, coughing blood threaded with electrical arcs, passes Zhang his original scripture and lightning sphere 834 835.

Notable Quotes

“Old friend, save me!” 142

“If I still had a chance, why would I give up? But with the [thunder gate pivot] manifesting in this world, my truth-seeking has already failed. That bolt of divine thunder was actually aimed at me.” 835

Trivia

  • Qin and Zhang repeatedly inflate the length of their friendship: from several thousand years to tens of thousands, millions, and eventually fifty million. These claims are jokes and opportunistic exaggerations, not his documented age 143 186 771 811 818.
  • He has no Dao companion when preparing his gift for Zhang at Clearheart Residence 157.
  • His cultivated elderly appearance supports recurring excuses about failing memory or control, including his deliberate destruction of Li Chuanqi’s scripture 143 554 773.
