He set down the plate he was carrying and lifted its cover, revealing an exquisitely prepared bear paw dish before Chen Hao.
Playing along, Chen Hao put on a deeply astonished expression. "That smells amazing! So it's bear paw!"
Seeing that Chen Hao had taken the bait, Hua Bei launched into a spiel about the dish. "Brother Hao, this bear paw has quite a story behind it. They say our Sect Leader personally went into Windmoon Mountain and killed a Bear King. It was a dark and windy night..."
"Hey, hey, cut the crap. Just tell me what you want," Chen Hao interrupted bluntly.
Hua Bei chuckled. "Nothing else. I was too impulsive today and argued with you. It was all my fault, so I had someone make this bear paw stew especially for you as an apology. I hope you'll be generous enough to forgive me."
"For me?" Chen Hao asked, pretending to be eager.
"Of course!"
The instant Hua Bei finished speaking, Chen Hao grabbed his chopsticks and dug in. "Then I won't stand on ceremony. I was hungry anyway."
Watching Chen Hao wolf down the food, Hua Bei snickered, looking thoroughly pleased that his scheme had succeeded.
"Brother Hao, where's that dog of yours?" Hua Bei asked curiously after looking around and finding no sign of CC.
With his mouth full, Chen Hao mumbled, "No idea. Disappears as soon as night falls."
While eating, Chen Hao also noticed several figures suddenly hiding in the corridor outside his room. Sure enough, Hua Bei had come with ill intentions.
But Chen Hao wasn't worried in the slightest. In the entire Ghost Gate, Gui Jianchou was the only person who warranted his caution. As long as Gui Jianchou stayed out of it, these small fry posed no threat to him.
