Background / History

Immortal Herbs and Dugu Bo

Dugu Bo learns that Tang San can neutralize snake venom after Shrek Academy's attempted merger with Heaven Dou Royal Academy fails. At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, Tang San refines two Immortal Herbs and offers to cure Dugu Bo's poison in exchange for concessions 90 92.

His demands include releasing his teachers and forbidding unprovoked attacks on the Shrek Seven Devils. Dugu Bo accepts the protection condition but excludes Tang San himself, retaining the right to punish him if he interferes with the detoxification. Tang San also attempts to turn Dugu Bo against Amon 92 93.

Soul Master Tournament

Tang San's ten-thousand-year fourth ring shocks the tournament audience and Ning Fengzhi. His spiritual perception identifies Amon as a dangerous opponent, but his hostility also stems from wanting to prevent information about the Immortal Herbs from reaching Dugu Bo. He considers assassinating Amon outside the arena, where tournament restrictions would not limit his hidden weapons 112.

After witnessing Amon kill Shi Nian, Tang San anonymously reports the murder and the associated Spirit Bone to Spirit Hall. Amon alters the letter to implicate him instead. Ning Fengzhi prevents Salas from taking Tang San away, while his teachers protect him and the academy 120 121.

Tang San continues competing despite an ambush and warnings about Spirit Hall's interest in his Twin Martial Souls. He later supports Yu Xiaogang's proposed temporary cooperation with Spirit Hall Academy against Northland Academy 132 135.

Seeking to avenge Xiao Wu, he fights Yan Jin but concedes after suffering heavy injuries. Against Spirit Hall Academy, Shrek's Seven-in-One Fusion Skill allows him to unleash the Clear Sky Hammer's Tool Soul Avatar and defeat their competitors. The resulting soul strain prevents safely repeating that tactic in the final 137 138 139 140.

When Amon exposes Xiao Wu as a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast, Tang San refuses to abandon her. Tang Hao ultimately escapes with both of them while Tang Xiao holds off Spirit Hall's Offering Elders 142 143.

Training and Return to the Clear Sky Sect

After Xiao Wu leaves for safety, Tang San accepts that his strength is insufficient to protect her. Tang Hao imposes intensive training and warns him that Spirit Hall will try to eliminate him before he matures. Their attempt to retrieve the remaining Immortal Herbs fails because Amon has already harvested them 152 153.

Amon directly supplies Spirit Bones despite Tang San's distrust. Tang San uses them, reaches Level 50, and trains in the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer beneath a waterfall with his Soul Power sealed 153 157.

After Slaughter City, Tang Hao leaves him with Tang Yuehua at Moonlight Pavilion. A year of etiquette and music training helps him restrain his accumulated killing intent and face the gap between himself and stronger peers more calmly 200 210 218.

Tang San reunites with Xiao Wu after their five-year separation, then accompanies Tang Hao back to the Clear Sky Sect. He defends Ah Yin against the Seventh Elder's insults and formally acknowledges his ancestry after Tang Hao passes the elders' trial 211.

Coalition Against Amon and Spirit Hall

At Shrek Academy, Tang San represents the Clear Sky Sect in negotiations with Xue Beng, the Star Luo Empire, and Star Dou Forest. The coalition agrees to act against Xue Qinghe, Amon, and Spirit Hall 213.

During the palace upheaval, Tang San pursues Xue Qinghe and confronts her true identity, Qian Renxue. Her Angel Holy Sword defeats his Blue Silver Overlord Spear, and his principal hidden weapons prove ineffective. Gehrman Sparrow rescues him, but the subsequent battle between Tang Hao and Lei Yin exposes another overwhelming power gap 215 216 217 219 220.

Spirit Hall later attacks Tang San's group near the Clear Sky Sect. Xiao Wu sacrifices herself to save him, becoming his sixth Spirit Ring; Da Ming also sacrifices himself to provide a chance of reviving her. Unknown to Tang San, Amon enters the ring with Xiao Wu's soul 236 237.

Journey to Sea God Island

Tang San pursues the Sea God's inheritance both to oppose Amon and to resurrect Xiao Wu. Yu Xiaogang gives him the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud, which he fuses with to receive a divine mark and a vision of the Sea God 246 248.

Gehrman betrays the group by steering their ship into the Deep Sea Demonic Whale King's territory and provoking it. Tang San survives the encounter, becomes separated from his companions, and evolves the Eight Spider Lances on an island. These apparent fortunate encounters are deliberately arranged by Amon to accelerate his growth 258 259.

He negotiates with the pirate leader Zi Zhenzhu for help locating his companions. Their search leads them to Dai Mubai and the others, who have taken one of her ships 260.

Xiao Wu's Revival and Divine Inheritance

After completing the Seventh Trial, Tang San learns that the Eighth requires nine-ring cultivation, a complete Spirit Bone set, Xiao Wu's revival, and the Deep Sea Demonic Whale King's death. He rejects a shortcut that would prevent her resurrection, even at the cost of abandoning the Sea God inheritance 288.

With Bo Saixi's assistance, he replaces two Spirit Bones and restores Xiao Wu. His sixth skill, Random, unexpectedly reverses his personal time, restoring his body, Soul Power, and sixth ring after the revival 289 290.

Tang San then hunts sea beasts to complete the Clear Sky Hammer's rings. Against the Deep Sea Demonic Whale King, Ring Detonation fails to deal decisive damage; Random supplies a space-tearing attack that kills the creature. His domain evolves into the Asura Domain, attracting the Asura Demon Sword and conflicting with his Sea God power 302 303 304.

Absorbing the whale king's ring raises him to Rank 99. Bo Saixi opens the final inheritance trial through her sacrifice. During its desire illusion, Amon appears personally and overwhelms Tang San with false claims that his family, friends, and entire life have been Amon's arrangements 305 306 308 309.

Appearance

  • Hair: Dark blue after his five-year absence; later described as ocean-blue 212 302.
  • Features: Handsome, with a markedly changed appearance and bearing after training. Ning Rongrong initially struggles to recognize him at the Shrek reunion 212.
  • Divine mark: A mark between his brows received through fusion with the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud; it resonates with the Sea God Trident 248 296.

Personality

Tang San is calculating and resource-conscious. He uses his knowledge of antidotes to press Dugu Bo for concessions, considers eliminating Amon to protect his access to the Immortal Herbs, and initially overestimates what his hidden weapons can accomplish against unfamiliar opponents 93 112.

Repeated defeats make him more self-aware. He admits that much of his conflict with Amon originated in his own greed and actions, although Amon's treatment of Xiao Wu remains particularly difficult for him to forgive. Moonlight Pavilion teaches him to acknowledge disparities in strength without allowing them to destroy his confidence 152 199 210 220.

His loyalty to Xiao Wu, his teachers, and the Shrek Seven Devils can override both caution and ambition. He defends Xiao Wu against Spirit Hall, stands up for Dai Mubai when Xue Beng pressures him, and chooses Xiao Wu's resurrection over becoming the Sea God 142 244 288.

He is also proud and stubborn: he refuses to withdraw from the tournament despite assassination risks and will bow only to his parents and teacher, not even to the Sea God. Insults to Ah Yin or threats involving Yu Xiaogang can provoke an immediate release of killing intent 132 211 212 306.

  • Space destruction: Supplies the attack that tears apart the whale king's surrounding space 304.

  • Limit: Prevents injury but does not stop impact from throwing or displacing him 258.

Sea God Techniques

  • Sea God Trident: Resonates with his divine mark and enhances his control over seawater 296.
  • Thirteen Golden Tridents: The Sea God demonstrates Unfixed Storm and Eons of Emptiness through his body 296.
  • Unfixed Storm: Immobilizes a target with a halo projected from the trident 298.
  • One Way Trip: Launches the trident in a devastating attack; used to kill the Imperial Sea Dragon 302.
  • Inheritance limit: At Rank 99, Tang San still lacks godhood and remains substantially below Bo Saixi while she channels the Sea God's power 305 306.

Music, Etiquette, and Negotiation

  • Aristocratic training: Studies music and etiquette under Tang Yuehua and performs at Moonlight Pavilion's graduation ceremony 200 210.
  • Political representation: Serves as the Clear Sky Sect's link to Xue Beng and representative in coalition negotiations 213.
  • Bargaining: Exchanges antidote knowledge or combat assistance for protection, concessions, and help locating his companions 92 93 260.
