Yan Jin was already notorious at Icewind Primary Soul Master Academy before properly developing her Martial Soul. She could defeat most upperclassmen using only her fists and Soul Power, earning recognition as the academy's “big sister” through sheer combat strength 3 4 17.

After awakening her Magma Martial Soul, Yan Jin initially struggled to control the magma she produced. Amon taught her the principles behind his self-created Air Bullet and directed her toward practicing simpler magma attacks instead. She eagerly called him “teacher” in pursuit of his guidance 10. Her first Spirit Ring improved her ability to shape and maintain magma, allowing her to form weapons and armor rather than losing control of excess material 15.

Her confidence was sharply checked by Walter, whose Soul Pressure forced her to her knees and demonstrated the difference between her and a true powerhouse. Recognizing both her potential and recklessness, Walter later tested her with staged bandit attacks and accepted her as his disciple after Amon encouraged her to do so 38.
