Background / History
Human origins and early cultivation
Before transmigration, Lin Tian was an ordinary person from Earth who read Primordial World novels. That knowledge initially shapes his expectations of legendary figures and future cultivation methods, although experience later exposes its limitations 195 264 379.
As a Spirit Vine, he develops by refining treasures, formations, and origins. Penglai’s seemingly impassable formation becomes both a source of evolution points and a training ground; after 100,000 years, he enters the island and claims the half-ripe World-Purifying White Lotus 3 5.
Companions and Mount Buzhou
After helping a small beast survive its lightning tribulation, Lin Tian names it Beast Emperor and gains his first companion. Their searches take tens of thousands of years, including an encounter with the conscious Ginseng Fruit tree associated with the future Zhen Yuanzi 12.
His cultivation increasingly centers on Mount Buzhou. He seeks a sanctuary at its summit as a strategic foothold against Hongjun, supports his companions with a pressure-reducing vine barrier, and resolves to resist rather than simply obey predetermined fate 75 77.
Creation of humanity
Using Primordial Breathing Earth, Lin Tian creates the Xuan Yuan people on Penglai, Chiyou’s people on Fangzhang, and Lie Shan’s Shennong people on Yingzhou. These acts bring humanity into the Primordial World ahead of its expected history and provoke repeated Heavenly Dao tribulations 101 115 127 158 162 459.
He also intends his created races to help bear and resolve his growing karmic entanglements. He grants Xuan Yuan a Heaven-Opening Mark connected to the origin of strength, making the clan a potential partner in his own cultivation 121 152.
Seclusion, roleplaying, and the fierce-beast calamity
Long isolation leads Lin Tian to send an avatar into Penglai to live among ordinary people. His roleplaying serves two purposes: grounding his identity in communal life and encouraging his descendants to surpass their inherited limits and enter the Primordial World 255 264 305.
When Ancestral Dragon and Shi Feng ally with Shen Ni, Lin Tian coordinates resistance across several fronts. He personally transports his aerial army to the Heavenly Passage River, while Xuan Yuan supports the Qilin Clan and Chiyou and Shen Nong contain the Phoenix Clan 290.
His defeat of Shen Ni and subsequent refinement of the beast emperor’s Primordial Spirit produce immense gains, but threaten to fragment his identity. Lin Tian recognizes that becoming an emotionless cosmic will would defeat the purpose of his pursuit of power 315 319.
Refusing sainthood and returning to Earth
Lin Tian refuses to imprint his Divine Sense Dao Fruit into Hongmeng Purple Qi because he fears losing his human emotions and independence. After proclaiming the importance of remaining true to one’s original nature, he leaves through the convergence of the five cosmic rivers toward Earth 319 320.
He spends a million years in the Kuiper Belt refining the solar system and sends divine-sense clones into many Earthly lives. Those experiences teach him that even well-intentioned intervention can breed resentment, leading him to adopt greater restraint toward humanity’s development 321 328.
Return and expansion across worlds
Li Er, the human-born Taiqing, becomes the Dao marker enabling Lin Tian’s return. Lin Tian plans to guide him away from a predetermined merit-saint destiny and toward his own path through Slaying the Three Corpses 325 331 337.
His later travels extend through parallel Primordial Worlds. Separate bodies acquire origins, defeat other versions of Hongjun, and feed their experiences and absorbed worlds back into his Dao foundation; All-Heaven Palace eventually becomes the Gate of Ten Thousand Worlds 686 732 1025.
Heavenly Court and the Great Dao
In a Journey to the West plane, Lin Tian rejects Heavenly Court recruitment, clashes with Buddhism, and eventually establishes Heavenly Court supremacy. He preserves defeated religious traditions while placing their authority and fortune under Heavenly Court control, intending to use their continued development rather than erase them 1147 1169 1255.
After breaking the final barrier to attaining the Dao, he binds his followers’ fortunes to his Dao Fruit and assigns them defensive roles before entering Chaos. Later, Hongmeng crystals and the World-Creating Shuttle turn his attention toward the Hongmeng True Realm 1259 1278.
Jixia Academy and Jiejiao
Another avatar becomes the master of Jixia Academy and pursues Proving the Dao Through Strength. His victories deter attacks on human academies, while resources plundered from Spirit Mountain rapidly strengthen Great Tang’s cultivators 1363 1397 1399 1438.
In a later plane, he identifies himself as Kui Ox’s son, rescues Yunxiao, restores Jiejiao’s ruined fortune, and assumes its leadership. His cultivation there turns toward mastering all Three Thousand Great Dao laws and attaining the Dao outside the Primordial Heavenly Dao’s jurisdiction 1664 1704 1787 1789.
Anti-Hongjun Alliance and a new anchor
Lin Tian recruits powerful figures from different eras into an Anti-Hongjun Alliance, using impersonation and staged confrontations to manipulate Hongjun’s observations. When Pan Gu and Hongjun reach a stalemate, both claim him as their undercover agent; Lin Tian realizes his arrival and system may have entangled him in both plans 2081 2119.
Rather than decide the struggle by fighting, he reveals the Great Dao River and departs. He selects Yunxiao as an anchor in another Primordial World, where the Spirit Vine True Self places him within her evil corpse and gives his otherwise anomalous presence an identity 2120 2139.
Appearance
- Human form: Usually a handsome young Daoist with a tall, imposing build, sword-like brows, and star-bright eyes 101 202 1318.
- Hair and clothing: Described with ink-black hair and flowing sleeves; one later account presents him as an Azure-Robed Daoist 1145 1252.
- Vine form: Possesses numerous vines and divine leaves. Their recorded number grows from thirty-six to seventy-two, with worlds housed within them 26 30 127.
- Eyes: Origin laws visibly revolve within his gaze, with later accounts recording as many as 140 202 360 372.
- Child incarnations: One appears as a newborn at Zhunti Pavilion. Another remains physically seven years old until a pill alters restrictive bloodline runes and allows him to mature to eighteen 416 1591.
- Manifested presence: Divine light, runes, celebratory clouds, and Pan Gu phantoms accompany major displays of cultivation; these are manifestations rather than a single permanent appearance 101 1062 1364 1406.
Personality
Lin Tian combines immense patience with opportunism. He can spend hundreds of thousands of years refining an obstacle, but continually looks for ways to turn formations, tribulations, treasures, and enemies into resources. His caution is selective: he weighs karmic consequences and future retaliation rather than avoiding risk altogether 5 12 77 333.
His ambition extends beyond personal survival to reshaping the Primordial World and spreading the Spirit Vine lineage across planes. He identifies strongly with humanity and places its interests at the center of his plans, while gradually accepting that excessive protection and imposed reforms can obstruct independent growth 328 358 739 1254 1430.
He is affectionate and playful with trusted companions, especially the Little Beast Emperor, but controlling toward followers acquired through conflict. He exploits weaknesses, manipulates perceptions, and even alters Creation Daoist’s emotions to turn him into a dependable subordinate 30 75 142.
His most persistent internal struggle is preserving his human selfhood. Long seclusion can numb his emotions, and accumulating origins threatens to dissolve his personality into cosmic authority. Earthly memories and ordinary human experiences become deliberate anchors against that loss 264 319 325 1789.

- Masters stellar formations that combine into the Four Symbols Formation, and plans to deploy them as Heavenly Court battle arrays 850.
