"Er, Your Majesty, my sovereign has yet to say that he intends to leave the Heavenly Court." Ao Kai froze for a moment at Gungun's question before answering.
"He isn't leaving?"
"This humble subject does not know."
Gungun raised its bear paw and gestured. Ao Yue had handed leadership of the Dragon Race to Yinglong and was now transferring the Heavenly Sovereign's authority to him bit by bit. No matter how one looked at it, he seemed intent on abdicating and stepping back. Yet Ao Kai said he had not announced any intention to leave the Heavenly Court. Could it be... that fellow Ao Yue wanted to become a retired emperor?
At that thought, Gungun frowned. It and Ao Yue held equal rank. If that fellow became a retired emperor, wouldn't he rise a head above it for no reason? No, it absolutely could not let him do that!
Gungun then addressed Ao Kai below. "Thank you for coming to inform me, Heavenly King. Sorry for the trouble, but please tell the Heavenly Sovereign that I understand and that he may rest assured."
"Yes. This humble subject will take his leave." Ao Kai bowed to Gungun.
"Mm." Gungun nodded, and Ao Kai turned and left the Heavenly Emperor Palace.
After he left, Duobao, one of the Five Elders, could not help asking Gungun, "Your Majesty, is the Heavenly Sovereign preparing to pass his position to Junior Brother Yinglong as well?"
"Possibly."
Duobao's expression darkened at Gungun's reply.
He had no quarrel with Yinglong, but... deep down, he was terribly jealous of him. Duobao was clearly Jiejiao's foremost disciple, yet the disciple their master, Sect Leader Tongtian, valued and cherished most was Yinglong. Yinglong also had a better background. Even in the Heavenly Court, he was the Heavenly Sovereign's younger brother.
