Ch. 301Ayame's reaction
Plot points and events
- Naruto recognizes Shin Uchiha, who has rescued members of Naruto’s family, often shares meals with him, and helps train him alongside Sasuke. Naruto sees Shin holding hands with Yugito and loudly remarks on Shin’s apparent success with beautiful women; Iruka scolds him, while Yugito cheerfully confirms she is one of Shin’s partners.
- Shin and Yugito visit Ichiraku Ramen. Ayame is delighted to see Shin at first, but her expression dims when she notices Yugito. She serves them politely but coolly—and steps on Shin’s foot as she leaves.
- Shin finds that Ayame has secretly loaded his bowl with extra meat and other toppings, as she used to do when he was a poor orphan. Yugito gets fewer extras, prompting her to tease Shin about his connection with Ayame.
- Shin explains the history behind Ayame’s kindness. In the kitchen, Teuchi complains about the extra toppings, and Ayame snaps that she will serve them as she pleases.
Character developments and interactions
- Shin is familiar and affectionate with Naruto, gently reins in his teasing, and remains tolerant of Ayame’s small act of retaliation. He values the old bond formed through her secret kindness.
- Naruto is impressed by Shin’s romantic life but quickly obeys when Shin tells him to stop joking and eat.
- Yugito is relaxed about Shin’s other relationships and amused by Ayame’s apparent jealousy. She teases Shin, though she eventually accepts his explanation.
- Ayame reveals mixed feelings: she is happy to see Shin but jealous when he arrives with Yugito. Her secret generosity shows that affection and concern remain beneath her cool behavior.
- Teuchi is protective of Ayame and wary of Shin, though he backs down when Ayame gets angry.
Significant themes
- Old kindness and lasting affection: Ayame’s extra toppings recall a time when Shin lacked money and depended on her quiet generosity.
- Jealousy and complicated relationships: Ayame’s mood and small revenge contrast with Yugito’s easy acceptance of Shin’s other partners.
- Care expressed through teasing and food: The characters’ affection often appears indirectly—in extra ramen toppings, playful remarks, and familiar scolding.
