Background / History

Preparations and early operations

Odin spent a long period harvesting human souls and conducting experiments involving Spiritual Evocation. His stated objective was to build an army of Heroic Spirits capable of opposing the fate awaiting the Dragon Kings at Ragnarök. During one such incident, Norton found the White King’s soul that Odin had concealed. 79

He cooperated extensively with humans through the Holy Palace Medical Association, whose projects included the Chen Family’s Frigga Zero experiment. Odin’s research combined Dragon King Alchemy, human science, Death Servant production, soul extraction, clone vessels, and Heroic Spirit summoning. 53 121 264

Before his first direct confrontation with Emiya, Odin supplied Leviathan with a replica of Gungnir that functioned as an alchemical control key for the Zero Overpass Nibelungen. 103

Conflict with Emiya

Odin first appeared before Emiya’s group in a devastated underground space, mounted on Sleipnir and wearing dark golden armor, a cloak, and an iron mask. Emiya initially believed he was facing the chief god of Norse mythology and ordered an immediate retreat. 49

The manifestation Emiya fought in the early encounters appeared markedly weaker than a true chief god. It fought silently, followed repetitive combat patterns, and was suspected to be a Spiritual Evocation construct borrowing Odin’s power rather than Odin’s complete self. 50 52 57

Despite this, Odin repeatedly pressured Emiya with Gungnir, his defensive air wall, superior mounted combat, and the world-destroying Word of Power Ancient Authority Manifestation: Indra’s Wrath. Emiya, Norton, and Lu Mingze ultimately disrupted his techniques and trapped or killed him during the Chen Family conflict, though Odin later returned. 59 60 96

Return and the Tokyo Holy Grail War

Odin resurfaced through Mr. Macallan, once again taking the form of the masked rider. He attempted to abduct Gen Chigo in order to seize his Master qualification and Command Spell Stigma for Odin’s Heroic Spirit research. 204 221 224

During Emiya’s pursuit, Odin used a water-based spatial transfer and a Nibelungen-like space to evade him. The chase ended with Odin losing an arm when Emiya used Mumyo Sandan-zuki to sever it. 222 224 225

Odin had prepared Reginleif as a simulated Greater Grail embedded into Tokyo’s Earth Vein. Using her as a vessel, he successfully summoned a demigod Valkyrie Servant and began establishing a production process for further Valkyrie Heroic Spirits. 224 244

Norton and Xia Mi interrupted these plans. Inside Norton’s Reality Marble, Odin lost his connection to the Earth Vein and used Valkyrie’s Noble Phantasm to disintegrate the Reality Marble long enough to escape with Sleipnir. 249 251

Chaldea infiltration and escape

Odin later inhabited the body of Chaldea Director Pompey. Captured and restrained in the Deep Interrogation Room, he was interrogated by Xia Mi and Hervor; however, he activated a time-reversal-like restoration that regenerated Pompey’s damaged body, broke the restraints, and enabled his escape. 310

After escaping, Odin confronted Emiya and Chu Zihang while riding Sleipnir. He ignored Chu Zihang’s flames and focused instead on the divine aura surrounding Emiya. 311

Appearance

Odin usually presents himself as a towering armored rider whose single visible golden eye shines through an iron mask. He is most often seen mounted on the eight-legged Sleipnir and carrying Gungnir. 49 57

  • Heavy dark-golden armor engraved with rune-like defensive patterns 49 52
  • Dark blue cloak and iron mask concealing all but one eye 49
  • Bright golden, searchlight-like eye characteristic of his manifested form 49 310
  • Curved Spear of Destiny, Gungnir 49 50
  • Eight-legged heavenly horse, Sleipnir, which can breathe thunder and travel with extreme speed 204 222
  • Uses human hosts or identities, including Mr. Macallan and Pompey 204 310

Personality

Odin is calculating, opportunistic, and highly survival-oriented. Rather than pursuing honorable duels, he abandons unfavorable fights, preserves his resources, and prioritizes escape routes. His immediate retreat from Emiya’s pursuit and his use of Valkyrie’s Noble Phantasm to break Norton’s Reality Marble both reflect this approach. 223 251

He is possessive of the Heroic Spirits and experimental resources he has gathered, reacting angrily when Norton and Xia Mi interfere with or take them. Though he can interact with humans in a recognizably human manner, the Holy Palace Medical Association regards him as dangerous precisely because of his age, knowledge, and capacity for long-term manipulation. 251 261

Abilities & Skills

First Generation physiology

As a First Generation Dragon King, Odin possesses immense elemental authority, resilience, and the capacity to inhabit or reconstruct bodies.

  • His presence manifests through golden eyes and an oppressive King’s Domain. 310 311
  • He can use host bodies, including Pompey’s, to continue operating after prior defeats. 204 310
  • Pompey’s body regenerated from catastrophic injuries through a time-reversal-like restoration. 310
  • His recovery is not always immediate; after losing an arm, Odin lacked time to cocoon and repair it before Norton's attack. 251

Mounted combat and weapon mastery

Odin is an exceptional mounted fighter who combines Gungnir, a lightning sword, and Sleipnir’s speed in close combat.

  • He can parry Emiya’s dual-sword attacks and rapidly change the angle of his spear thrusts. 50
  • His horsemanship allows Sleipnir to execute abrupt high-speed directional changes, including a near-180-degree turn while fleeing. 223
  • He can fight with spear and sword simultaneously while directing Sleipnir through high-speed exchanges. 58
  • His early manifestation relied heavily on rigid, mechanical attack patterns that Emiya learned to exploit. 52

Divine Speed Domain

Odin can deploy a speed-based domain that drastically alters his perception of time, making the surrounding world appear nearly motionless.

  • Also identified as Time Zero. 222
  • Enables Odin and Sleipnir to move at extreme speed while opponents appear slowed. 59 222
  • Emiya has demonstrated the ability to move and counterattack within the domain, limiting Odin’s advantage. 222

Ancient Authority Manifestation: Indra’s Wrath

Odin’s exclusive ultimate Word of Power is a large-scale lightning and wind phenomenon described as world-destroying in scope.

  • Draws in elemental currents, forms vast thunderclouds, violent winds, and a tornado-like disaster zone. 59
  • Creates an enormous divine lightning blade capable of destroying reinforced concrete structures and carving a path through streets and buildings. 59
  • Odin is identified as the First Generation King of Sky and Wind in connection with this Word of Power. 59
  • The activation of his domains can be disrupted by outside interference. 59 96

Alchemy, Nibelungen, and spatial manipulation

Odin uses advanced Alchemy and spatial techniques associated with Nibelungen-like enclosed worlds.

  • Uses water as a medium for spatial transfer, making direct attacks difficult to land. 222
  • Created a water-like enclosed space containing a black island resembling the Wandering Sea. 224
  • Maintains a Nibelungen called Avalon, used to store coffins and experimental materials. 244
  • Uses Mercury and Dragon Blood in remote water-based spatial communication. 251
  • Distributed alchemical control systems, including Gungnir replicas used as Nibelungen keys. 103

Spiritual Evocation and Heroic Spirit research

Odin’s principal long-term project is the artificial production and control of Heroic Spirits.

  • Created Death Servant forces and Spiritual Evocation puppets from harvested souls. 78 121
  • Extracted souls, including Nono’s mother’s soul, for his experiments. 80
  • Sought the White King’s authority and a suitable Master qualification to analyze the Norton brothers’ Heroic Spirit technology. 224
  • Used Reginleif as a simulated Greater Grail linked to the Earth Vein to summon Valkyrie Heroic Spirits. 244
  • Successfully bestowed sufficient divinity on a Valkyrie to reach demigod level, though the resulting Servant lacked a normal Heroic Spirit’s consciousness. 244

Defensive air wall

Odin can deploy a self-repairing, fluid-like barrier around himself.

  • The barrier intercepted a Fantasy Collapse before it could reach him. 57
  • It can reform after damage, allowing Odin to stall opponents and endure repeated attacks. 57
  • Sufficient energy overload can crack and disintegrate it. 59

Trivia

  • Emiya initially suspected Odin was a Spiritual Evocation imitation linked to Ophelia Phamrsolone because of the masked form, covered eye, and suspiciously limited combat performance. 50
  • Odin’s first on-page mount was destroyed when Sleipnir sacrificed itself to let him evade Emiya’s Tai’a strike; Odin later rode an eight-legged Sleipnir again after returning. 52 204
  • His underground operations were disparagingly compared to a “sewer organization” by his own subordinates. 244
