After returning to Earth, Son Goku resumed his simple, unassuming life of training.
Time flew, and five years passed in the blink of an eye. Son Goku had grown from the short boy he had once been to a height of six feet.
The load imposed by his weighted clothing had also increased from twenty times gravity to forty times gravity.
After saying goodbye to Son Gohan, Son Goku flew to Bulma's home.
Bulma was instantly smitten when she saw Son Goku. He seized the chance to confess his feelings, and their friendship blossomed into love on the spot.
The two then headed to the tournament grounds to enter the twenty-third World Martial Arts Tournament.
There, they met Master Roshi, Krillin, Yamcha, Tien Shinhan, Chiaotzu, and their other friends.
Son Goku had changed so much in the years since they had last met that no one recognized him at first. Only after Bulma introduced him did they connect the man before them with Kid Goku and finally recognize him.
Bulma publicly announced her relationship with Son Goku, and everyone offered their congratulations. She then invited them all out for another meal.
Afterward, the World Martial Arts Tournament began as scheduled.
Before it began, Son Goku made a point of telling Bulma about Chi-Chi.
Bulma was furious at first, but Son Goku's sweet talk soon won her forgiveness.
With that matter settled, Son Goku let out a long sigh of relief.
He then swept through the tournament, with no opponent able to last even a single exchange against him. After defeating Chi-Chi in the quarterfinals, he told her about Bulma, and she agreed to the arrangement.
Next, he faced Tien Shinhan in the semifinals and knocked him unconscious with a single move, leaving everyone present dumbfounded.
Piccolo's expression darkened at the sight.
After defeating Krillin, Piccolo met Son Goku in the final.
In the final, Piccolo threw everything he had at Son Goku, who countered every move. Looking at the exhausted Piccolo, Son Goku said, "I gave you a chance, but you couldn't make anything of it. I barely even lifted a finger, and you're already down."
Piccolo was enraged, but there was nothing he could do.
After knocking Piccolo out of the ring and having the announcer confirm his victory, Son Goku let him go.
Upon hearing this, Piccolo threatened to settle the score with Son Goku once his training paid off.
Son Goku chuckled inwardly. Settle the score with me? Just settle into your role as the Sun family's nanny!
After winning the World Martial Arts Tournament, Son Goku held a grand wedding with Bulma and Chi-Chi.
After the wedding, Bulma asked Son Goku to move into her home, and he readily agreed.
A year later, Chi-Chi and Bulma gave birth to two boys at almost the same time. Son Goku gazed at Chi-Chi's baby, wondering what to name him.
His grandfather, Son Gohan, was still alive, so he could hardly name the boy Son Gohan. After much thought, he finally settled on Son Goshin.
As for Bulma's boy, Son Goku decided to name him Son Gohin.
From then on, Son Goku became a hands-on father, spending his time outside training playing with his two children.
Four years later, Son Goku took Son Goshin and Son Gohin to Immortal Island to visit Master Roshi. There, he sensed an evil presence arrive on Earth and knew that Raditz had landed.
He asked Master Roshi and Krillin to watch the two children, then used Instant Transmission to appear near Raditz.
As soon as he arrived, he heard Raditz tell a farmer holding a gun, "Trash with a power level of only five."
Raditz was about to kill the farmer when Son Goku called out, "Hey, Raditz! How's it going?"
Startled, Raditz looked behind him and saw Son Goku waving at him.
"Are you Kakarot?" he asked.
"The one and only," Son Goku said.
"There's no mistaking it," Raditz said. "One look at that face tells me you're my foolish little brother, Kakarot."
"My foolish big brother," Son Goku said, "what brings you to Earth?"
"You're asking me?" Raditz roared. "I should be asking you! What's going on with this planet? Why haven't you wiped out the natives yet?"
"Why would I kill everyone here?" Son Goku asked.
"It looks like you've forgotten your mission, Kakarot!" Raditz shouted. "Let your big brother finish the job for you!"
With that, he formed an energy ball in his hand and hurled it toward a distant city.
Son Goku darted in front of the energy ball and slapped it into the sky.
"Not bad, my foolish little brother," Raditz said with a laugh. "You actually managed to block my energy ball. Let your big brother see what your power level is."
He pressed the Scouter beside his eye and looked at Son Goku, only to find that his power level was just five.
"Kakarot, what's going on?" he asked. "Why is your power level only five?"
"Want to know?" Son Goku asked with a grin.
"Stop playing games and tell me!" Raditz snapped.
"I'm not telling you," Son Goku said. "What are you going to do about it? Come hit me!"
Raditz laughed. "Looks like you've grown bold, Kakarot. Let your big brother show you some affection."
"Hold on," Son Goku said. "Let's go somewhere else."
"Fine, have it your way," Raditz said. "No matter where we go, you're not escaping this beating."
Son Goku smiled, then took to the air and flew straight toward Piccolo's home.
Along the way, Raditz's Scouter detected Piccolo's power level at 516. He said to Son Goku, "So that's why you wanted to move-you've found someone to help you. Too bad it won't do you any good. Your helper's power level is only a little over five hundred, while mine is fifteen hundred. Accept your fate, Kakarot."
"We'll talk when we get there," Son Goku said.
Raditz responded with another round of taunts.
Piccolo had sensed Raditz the moment he arrived on Earth. Just as he was about to investigate, he realized Raditz was coming toward him and stayed where he was to wait.
Sure enough, a short while later, he spotted Raditz and Son Goku.
Once the two landed, Piccolo asked Son Goku, "Who is he?"
"Just a madman who kills without batting an eye," Son Goku said.
"Kakarot, you really have grown bold!" Raditz snapped. "How dare you talk about your big brother like that?"
"This guy is your big brother?" Piccolo asked in shock. "Are you sure about that, Son Goku?"
"That's right," Son Goku said. "He's my big brother. We both belong to a race called the Saiyans."
"I see. Then why did you bring him here?" Piccolo asked.
"I brought him here so you could fight him and broaden your horizons," Son Goku said.
"So that's your plan, Kakarot," Raditz said. "But this guy is too pathetic to be worth my time."
"Who are you calling pathetic?" Piccolo demanded.
"I mean everyone here is trash," Raditz said with a laugh.
"Bullshit!" Piccolo roared, then lunged at Raditz.
