Background / History

Lin Tianhao awakens in the Dragon Ball world inside three-year-old Goku’s body. Son Gohan attributes the child’s unfamiliar behavior to memory loss caused by a fall. Accepting his new identity, Wukong begins training early to prepare for threats he remembers from the original story. Unlike the original Goku, he retains his reason during Great Ape transformations, allowing Son Gohan to survive 1.

His early journey connects him with Bulma during her Dragon Ball search. He uses their wish to obtain adjustable weighted clothing, seeks instruction from Master Roshi, and trains with Korin after Roshi recognizes that conventional lessons are insufficient for him. He subsequently wins the twenty-first and twenty-second World Martial Arts Tournaments 1 2.

Wukong declines Kami’s offer to make him Earth’s guardian deity, preferring freedom from the office while promising to protect the planet. His first Namek journey brings a similar commitment: after the Grand Elder unlocks his potential, he agrees to defend Namek against future danger 2.

After five further years of training, he returns to tournament competition as an adult, defeats Chi-Chi, Tien, and Piccolo, and spares Piccolo. He marries both Bulma and Chi-Chi; their first sons, Wuming and Wuzhen, are born a year later 3.

Appearance

Wukong grows into an adult standing 1.8 meters tall; his later transformations substantially change his hair, eyes, physique, and aura 3.

  • Super Saiyan: Golden hair and green eyes 22.
  • Super Saiyan 2: Upright golden hair with one lock over his forehead, accompanied by crackling lightning 21.
  • Super Saiyan 3: Waist-length golden hair, no eyebrows, a pronounced brow ridge, emerald-green eyes, and dense lightning around a golden aura 29 33.
  • Super Saiyan 4: Muscular humanoid build, red fur over the upper body except the chest, thick black hair, red-rimmed eyes with emerald-green pupils, and leather pants 36.
  • Super Saiyan 4 Limit Breakthrough: Red hair and red flames surrounding his body 47.
  • Super Saiyan 5: Long white hair, white eyebrows and fur, black eye rims, silvery-white pupils, and a dense white aura described as liquid-like 50.

Personality

Wukong treats strength as a means of controlling his own fate. He continues training even when his existing power overwhelmingly exceeds that of his opponents, expecting future enemies to be stronger. He teaches his friends to measure martial-arts progress against their former selves rather than become discouraged by someone else’s superiority 8 23 36.

His confidence often appears as teasing or deliberate provocation. He jokes with Raditz and Vegeta, answers King Cold’s death threat by asking to die of old age, and pretends not to recognize Whis. Despite this irreverence, he respects instruction and openly credits King Kai’s Kaioken as an extraordinary technique 3 23 24 47.

He distinguishes between dangerous enemies and opponents who need not be killed. He spares Piccolo and Vegeta, protects the present-timeline androids after judging them unlike their murderous future counterparts, and refuses Cell’s request to absorb Lazuli. His restraint does not prevent decisive action against threats such as Turles 3 7 22 42 44.

Family repeatedly takes priority over cultivation. He reduces his training after his children’s births and later stops training for an entire year to spend time with his household. His romantic behavior is direct and flirtatious, though his pursuit of Lazuli initially provokes jealousy from Bulma and Chi-Chi 35 41 43 47.

Abilities & Skills

Ki Control and Combat

Wukong’s ki control supports energy projection, flight, power concealment, and precise defensive intervention 7 22 42.

  • Uses a controlled power display that Turles’s Scouter reads as only 530,000 despite possessing vastly greater strength 22.
  • Blocks Frieza’s laser attacks aimed at Vegeta 13.
  • Slaps Vegeta’s Final Flash into the sky to save Lapis 42.
  • Breaks through the Hyperbolic Time Chamber’s dimensional barrier with an energy blast or a punch 36 43.

Kaioken

Learned from King Kai, Kaioken multiplies strength, speed, and power. Wukong develops unusually high multipliers through extreme-gravity conditioning 7 13 21.

  • Progresses from ×100 to ×300 and eventually ×3,000 7 21 23.
  • Initially experiences enough pain at ×100 to stop training 7.
  • By the time he pursues Super Saiyan 3, his ×3,000 Kaioken provides a greater multiplier than his Super Saiyan 2 transformation 23 29.
  • Shares the training method directly with Trunks and Lapis 34 46.

Saiyan Transformations

Wukong develops the Super Saiyan line through Super Saiyan 5 and teaches several stages to other Saiyans 21 29 43 50.

  • Great Ape control: Retains awareness during childhood transformations 1.
  • Super Saiyan Second Grade: Demonstrates increased muscular bulk and strength, but warns that speed does not improve and may decline 28.
  • Full Power Super Saiyan: Describes it as the perfected first transformation, with no energy wasted 28.
  • Super Saiyan 2 instruction: Identifies sufficient power growth and extreme rage as alternative routes to the form 29 35.
  • Super Saiyan 4 instruction: Requires both enough energy to become a Golden Great Ape and enough physical strength to compress that energy into the final form 43.

Divine-Power Cultivation

Wukong obtains his cultivation method from Porunga and practices it for more than ten years. Divine power gradually raises both strength and level of existence, with comparatively slow early gains 2 35 49.

  • Develops the mental strength needed to receive information about every black hole in the universe 33.
  • Conjures objects, including mirrors and a washboard 36 43.
  • Transmits cultivation knowledge directly into Trunks’s and Piccolo’s minds 30 35.
  • Explains that divine cultivation is important for Super Saiyan God, but the supplied chapters do not show him achieving that transformation 30.
  • Whis offers access to God of Destruction techniques and the prospect of a later angelic Divine Technique; neither is shown mastered 47 49.

Ki Sword Techniques

His sword techniques combine ki shaping with mental control 7 30.

  • Ki Sword Manifestation: Forms a ki blade and controls it telekinetically; uses it to sever Vegeta’s tail 7.
  • Multiple energy swords: Creates four swords to kill Turles and his three men 22.
  • Ten Thousand Swords Return to the Origin: Releases hundreds of thousands of golden energy swords around his body without blind spots 29.
  • Requirements: The ultimate sword technique needs divine-power cultivation, extremely precise mental-energy control, and a vast supply of ki 30.

Instant Transmission

Wukong acquires Instant Transmission through a Porunga wish. He clarifies that it is the Yardratian technique, not the Supreme Kai’s version 2 48.

  • Requires sensing someone’s energy at the destination 48.
  • Transports companions between Earth, Namek, and King Kai’s planet 8 9 31.
  • Moves large cargo, including Turles’s spaceship 22.
  • Can require searching for distant energy signatures; locating Turles’s group takes approximately fifteen minutes 22.

Physical Conditioning and Wish-Granted Adaptations

Wukong combines gravity training with wishes that remove specific obstacles to survival and cultivation 2 21 33 49.

  • Space survival: Obtains the ability to survive in space through Shenron 2 49.
  • Infinite stamina: Receives unlimited stamina from Porunga 21.
  • Heat resistance: Trains on a red giant with a surface temperature of approximately 4,000 degrees 37.
  • Extreme durability: After red-giant conditioning, believes even Vegeta’s full-power Super Saiyan 2 or 3 attacks would probably fail to hurt his Super Saiyan 4 body 46.
  • Gravity-related time protection: Porunga removes time effects up to ten billion times normal gravity; Whis later stabilizes time around him against even black-hole gravity. His body must still withstand the gravitational force 33 49.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Adjustable weighted clothing: First obtained through the Earth Dragon Balls. Later receives an outfit from Porunga with a maximum setting of 10,000 times normal gravity 1 21.
  • Gravity Rooms: Uses Bulma’s and Dr. Brief’s equipment alongside weighted clothing; their facilities support the entire group’s training 8 23 35 47.
  • Senzu Beans: Receives an initial supply from Korin and uses them to restore allies, support the Grand Elder, and facilitate Cell’s planned battle-and-recovery training 1 9 17 44.
  • Dragon Balls: Repeatedly uses Shenron and Porunga for training equipment, survival adaptations, knowledge, resurrection, and reconstruction 2 21 33 35.
  • Spirit Fruits: Harvests 250 from Turles’s Tree of Might and distributes them among relatives, friends, and mentors 22 23.
  • Spaceships: Travels to Namek in Kami’s repaired spaceship; later takes Turles’s ship and gives it to Dr. Brief 2 22.

Relationships

  • Son Gohan — Adoptive grandfather and childhood guardian. Wukong’s controlled Great Ape transformations prevent his death; Wukong names his eldest son Wuzhen rather than reuse his grandfather’s name 1 24.
  • Bulma — Early traveling companion and wife. Provides technological support for training. Their children are Wuming, Kesi, Bulla, and Wuqian 1 3 35 47.
  • Chi-Chi — Wife and mother of Wuzhen, Goten, and Wukun 3 35 47.
  • Lazuli / Android 18 — Becomes his third wife after their courtship and his discussions with Bulma and Chi-Chi. Their children are Wuli and Xiaoxia 41 43 46 47.
  • Wuzhen and Wuming — Eldest sons and martial-arts students. He guides both through Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 2, adjusting his advice when rage-based transformation proves unsuitable 21 35.
  • Raditz — Saiyan older brother. Initially confrontational, later joins the training group and becomes trusted with responsibilities involving Nappa and Cell 3 4 7 44.
  • Piccolo — Former enemy, rival, close friend, and cultivation student. Wukong supports his growth, heals him after fighting Frieza, and entrusts him with protecting Lapis from Vegeta 3 17 35 40.
  • Vegeta — Rival and eventual ally. Wukong spares him, helps him pursue Super Saiyan, and repeatedly uses his progress to challenge Vegeta’s complacency 7 13 21 41.
  • Nappa — Former opponent who joins the gravity-training group after Vegeta abandons him 7.
  • Future Trunks — Student and visitor from a parallel timeline, not Wukong’s biological son. Wukong trains him to defend his own world and later teaches him Super Saiyan 4 24 25 29 43.
  • Son Kesi — Son with Bulma whom Wukong identifies as this world’s counterpart to Future Trunks; their different parentage does not affect Future Trunks’s existence 35 42.
  • Master Roshi and Korin — Early mentors who recognize his exceptional progress and help him find stronger training methods 1 2.
  • King Kai — Kaioken teacher and continuing ally. Wukong brings other fighters to train with him and answers his request to stop Turles 7 8 21.
  • Grand Elder and Moori — Namekian allies who support his training and Dragon Ball requests in return for his protection and aid 2 9 21 33.
  • Dr. Brief — Father-in-law and technical supporter; repairs Kami’s spaceship and receives Turles’s ship as a family gift 2 22.
  • Lapis / Android 17 — Lazuli’s younger brother. Wukong saves him from Vegeta, heals him, and teaches him Kaioken 42 46.
  • Whis — Recruits him as a God of Destruction Candidate, assesses his divine cultivation, and removes a major limitation on black-hole training 47 49.
