Whis: I ate pig slop for endless ages

Whis said to Son Goku, "To think you've even learned the Supreme Kai's Instant Transmission. You're a true genius."

Son Goku said, "Whis, this isn't the Supreme Kai's Instant Transmission. It's the Yardratians' Instant Transmission. You need to sense someone's energy to use it."

"Oh, I see. Still, that's quite impressive," Whis said.

Bulma, who stood before them, asked Son Goku, "Goku, who is he?"

Son Goku said, "Bulma, he's the God of Destruction's attendant, the angel Whis. He's a deity."

Bulma was stunned. "He's an angel? Why doesn't he have wings?"

Son Goku laughed. "He's not the kind of angel we humans imagine. He's a real angel."

"I see," Bulma said.

Then she turned to Whis. "Mr. Whis, welcome to my home."

Whis smiled. "Thank you, Miss Bulma. I'm delighted to be your guest."

Son Goku said to Bulma, "Go get the banquet ready. I'll call everyone out and introduce them to Whis."

"All right, Goku," Bulma said, then went to prepare the banquet.

Son Goku led Whis to the dining room, then said, "Whis, wait here a moment. I'll call my friends out so you can meet them. I'm sure you'll find quite a few of them interesting."

"Oh, really? Then I'll wait here," Whis said.

Son Goku nodded, then went to the Gravity Room and called everyone out.

Vegeta said, "Kakarot, why aren't you training? What did you call us all out for?"

Son Goku said, "A powerful deity has come to visit. I wanted to introduce you."

Vegeta sounded interested. "Oh? Who is it? It had better not be some nobody. I'm not interested in those."

Son Goku smiled. "Vegeta, do you remember the God of Destruction?"

Vegeta immediately recalled his childhood, and cold sweat poured down his face. He said to Son Goku, "Kakarot, are you saying the God of Destruction, Lord Beerus, is here?"

Seeing his reaction, Piccolo asked Son Goku, "Who is Beerus, the God of Destruction? How did he scare Vegeta this badly?"

Vegeta answered first. "Beerus, the God of Destruction, is the greatest deity in this world. His sole duty is destruction, and his strength is unfathomable. Kakarot's power might seem bottomless now, but even he probably wouldn't last long against Beerus."

Piccolo was horrified. "Goku, is that true?"

Son Goku said, "Vegeta is right. With my current strength, I probably couldn't last more than a few moves if Lord Beerus got serious."

Everyone gasped.

Son Goku said, "But it isn't Lord Beerus who's come. It's his attendant, the angel Whis."

Vegeta breathed a sigh of relief. "So it's his attendant. I thought Beerus himself had come. You scared me."

Son Goku said, "Vegeta, do you think Whis is really just Beerus's attendant?"

Vegeta replied, "Kakarot, didn't you say he was Beerus's attendant?"

Son Goku said, "He's also an angel."

Vegeta asked, "What exactly is an angel?"

Son Goku said, "Angels are responsible for instructing the Gods of Destruction. In other words, angels are also their teachers."

"What? Kakarot, are you saying angels are even stronger than Gods of Destruction?" Vegeta asked.

Son Goku said, "That's right. A God of Destruction would be defeated instantly by an angel."

Vegeta was floored. In disbelief, he said, "Angels are actually that powerful?"

Son Goku said, "Now you understand what I meant by a powerful deity, right?"

Everyone nodded.

Son Goku said, "Come on. Let's go meet Whis."

They nodded and followed behind Son Goku.

A moment later, they reached the dining room.

Son Goku introduced everyone to Whis one by one. Whis nodded, then said to Son Goku, "Piccolo, Vegeta, and your two sons are the ones you mentioned, aren't they?"

Son Goku said, "That's right, Whis. Do they meet your standards?"

Whis nodded. "They're quite decent. They're already outstanding among mortals, and all have good potential. With some training, they should be able to reach the level of an ordinary God of Destruction."

Son Goku nodded. The others were delighted to hear it too. After all, those words had come straight from an angel, a teacher of Gods of Destruction.

It proved that their potential was boundless and that they had a chance of reaching the level of a God of Destruction.

Son Goku had everyone sit down, then brought out Lazuli, Chi-Chi, and the other five children.

Looking at Son Goku's eight children, Whis wore an odd expression. He smiled at Son Goku and said, "Goku, you certainly have a lot of children. And they're all quite talented."

Son Goku smiled. "Whis, you know there are only a handful of us Saiyans left. If we don't have more children, the Saiyans might go extinct someday."

Vegeta's mouth twitched. The way Kakarot puts it, you'd think he was the Saiyan prince.

Whis's expression turned a little odd as well. He knew that Beerus was the true mastermind behind the Saiyans' extermination. Frieza had merely been made to take the blame.

Just then, Bulma entered the dining room, followed by a long line of Food Delivery Robots.

Whis's eyes lit up at the food on the robots' trays.

The robots approached the table and set down the dishes one by one.

Bulma said, "Dig in, everyone."

Everyone began wolfing down the food.

Whis picked up the dessert in front of him and took a bite. Tears immediately streamed down his face.

Everyone looked at him in bewilderment.

Whis said, "Sorry, I lost my composure. This is simply too delicious. I've never eaten anything this good before."

Everyone wore strange expressions. You're an angel, a teacher of Gods of Destruction, and you've never had dessert? Who would believe that?

Son Goku naturally knew the reason, but he didn't explain. Instead, he passed Whis a plate of braised pork and said, "Whis, try this too."

Copying the others, Whis picked up a morsel with his chopsticks and tasted it.

His eyes instantly went wide. He felt as though his very soul had soared beyond the heavens. It was unbelievably delicious. What kind of pig slop have I been eating all this time? Compared to the food in front of me, it's worlds apart.

After that, Son Goku passed Whis more dishes. Each new taste sent Whis's soul soaring beyond the heavens again.

Just from sampling the food, Whis ate until he was stuffed.

Son Goku smiled at Whis. "Whis, there are still plenty of dishes left. Aren't you going to try them?"

Whis said, "Goku, thank you for the meal, but I really can't eat another bite. I'll try them another day."

Son Goku said, "That's fine. We wouldn't want you getting tired of everything in one sitting."

Whis said, "How could I? Food this delicious wouldn't get old even if I ate it a thousand or ten thousand times."

Son Goku nodded. Thinking of the pig slop Whis had eaten for endless ages, he couldn't help feeling a little sorry for him.
