Background / History
Sasuke is Fugaku’s son and Itachi’s younger brother. He began practicing shurikenjutsu at a very young age, receiving instruction from Itachi. At the Academy, he is recognized as a prodigy and earns top marks across his subjects 15 19 28 34.
His ambitions initially center on family rather than revenge. Observing him training alone, Yu identifies his motivation as keeping pace with Itachi and winning his father’s approval. Yu hopes that preventing the Uchiha massacre will allow Sasuke to develop without the trauma that would otherwise turn him into an avenger 24.
The clan’s political crisis nevertheless reaches him. Danzō orders strict surveillance of Sasuke, treating him as Itachi’s weakness, and Itachi reveals that Danzō has threatened Sasuke’s life to compel his cooperation in destroying the Uchiha 27 28. Sasuke notices that his family and clan are behaving strangely, but Itachi conceals the underlying conflict from him 33.
Personality
Sasuke maintains a cool, aloof image at school, concealing his excitement when Itachi comes to watch his contest. His apparent confidence rests on diligent private training: Yu finds him practicing alone despite the effortless impression he gives others 24 29.
Proud and competitive, he wants to prove the Uchiha’s superiority over the Hyuga and is unsettled by Naruto’s unexpected talent. However, he can acknowledge a genuine defeat. After losing to Yu, he accepts the result, honors their wager, and insists that surrendering the class’s top position is only temporary 20 28 32.
He values respect more than unsolicited protection. Sakura’s attempt to sabotage Yu angers him because he interprets it as a lack of faith in his ability. His response is harsh, but his conduct toward Yu also shows generosity: he offers practical instruction and demonstrates Fire Release when their contest shifts into an area Yu has not yet learned 12 30 31 32.
Friendship exposes a less guarded side. He initially prefers calling Yu a rival, then accepts friendship while denying that Yu’s promised candy influenced him. Later, he privately admits that he enjoyed the group’s outing and wants to spend more time with them 32 49.
Abilities & Skills
Shurikenjutsu
- Throwing fundamentals: Accurately hits a bull’s-eye while teaching Yu to emphasize the wrist and fingers rather than arm strength 12.
- Uchiha Style Wind-Chasing Shuriken Technique: Uses a second, faster shuriken to strike and redirect the first, sending both into separate bull’s-eyes. His proficiency remains an early application of Itachi’s technique 30.
- Improvised power throw: Performs a flip and uses its momentum to drive two shuriken deeply into adjacent targets. Itachi recognizes this as Sasuke’s own improvisation rather than a move he taught him 30.
- Rapid Summoning Shuriken Technique: Summons weapons from a portable scroll and throws them in a fast barrage. Its incomplete accuracy and heavy stamina cost prevent him from matching Yu’s twenty-target attack 32.
Fire Release
- Great Fireball Technique: Produces a large fireball and demonstrates its hand seals for Yu to copy 30.
- Phoenix Flower Claw Crimson: Combines Fire Release with shurikenjutsu, sending flaming shuriken into targets and setting them alight 30.
- Limits: Phoenix Flower Claw Crimson demands precise chakra control. During the contest, Sasuke succeeds with a limited number of shuriken and pants afterward; Itachi considers this the ceiling of his current ability 30.
Basic Ninjutsu
- Can use the Transformation, Substitution, and Clone Techniques at will after a reported month of learning 19.
- Has not awakened the Sharingan at the time of his shuriken contest with Yu 30.
Climbing and Improvisation
- Climbs a cliff by alternately embedding and retrieving kunai as handholds and footholds. Neji acknowledges the ingenuity of his method 45.
- Later descends Hokage Rock independently, accidentally breaking a stone lock of hair from the Second Hokage’s statue 49.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Shuriken — His principal weapons during training and the contest with Yu 12 30.
- Portable Summoning Scroll — Worn beneath his left sleeve; supplies shuriken for his rapid summoning technique 32.
- Kunai — Used as improvised climbing anchors 45.
- Yu’s tomato-flavored candy — Given after the contest; matches his favorite flavor and rapidly restores his depleted stamina 32.
Relationships
- Itachi Uchiha — Older brother, instructor, and the ninja Sasuke most admires. Sasuke hopes to surpass him and is deeply encouraged by his attention. Itachi protects him from the clan’s turmoil and later asks Yu to go easy on him 15 29 33 41 46.
- Fugaku Uchiha — Father. Yu identifies earning Fugaku’s approval as one of Sasuke’s early motivations for training 24 28.
- Yu — Competitive rival who becomes a friend after defeating him. Sasuke respects Yu’s talent, while Yu deliberately uses their contest to approach him as an equal 12 32 46.
- Naruto Uzumaki — Classmate and frequent target of Sasuke’s “dead last” taunts. Sasuke rejects his initial offer of friendship but later joins a visit to his home and participates in the group’s outing 12 32 45 46.
- Sakura Haruno — Classmate with a strong crush on him. He ignores her dramatic haircut and later rebukes her attempt to interfere in his match 12 31 32.
- Neji — A peer Sasuke once considered a rival. Their interactions include teasing, disagreement over the shuriken contest’s fairness, and shared games with Yu’s group 30 46 47 48.
- Iruka — Academy teacher and contest referee. Encourages Sasuke after his defeat and has both contestants make the Seal of Reconciliation 29 32.
- Danzō — Threatens Sasuke’s life as leverage against Itachi and orders him placed under strict surveillance 27 28.

Shuriken Showdown
- Competes before a crowd with Iruka refereeing and Itachi watching. The rules require successive unconventional throws, with the first miss deciding the loser 29.
- Escalates from collision-based throws to Fire Release, then teaches Yu the Great Fireball Technique. Yu’s uncontrolled imitation briefly interrupts the match 30 31.
- Loses after his unfinished rapid summoning technique fails to match Yu’s performance. The reconciliation, wager, and candy exchange lead to friendship 32.
