Background / History
Origins and fabricated parentage
Mo You transmigrates into a child born to an unnamed Ōtsutsuki father and a human mother. His body had been placed in suspended sleep approximately fifteen centuries earlier. His father leaves the Book of the Gods and a letter explaining that an early awakening would mean he had already died 1 15 41.
Seeking protection rather than planetary conquest, Yu travels to Konoha in Year 51 and claims to be Hizashi Hyuga’s illegitimate son. Hizashi’s past relationship outside the clan, Yu’s Byakugan, and his resemblance to Neji make the story plausible. Hizashi accepts him, unaware that they have no blood relationship 1.
Becoming part of the Hyuga household
Although the identity begins as a deception, Yu chooses to remain with Hizashi after learning how the Main Family controls Branch Family members through the Caged Bird Seal. He also refuses an apparent opportunity to enter the Main Family when it requires abandoning Hizashi 2 4.
Hiashi reveals that the adoption proposal was a loyalty test. He paints a false seal on Yu’s forehead, requires secrecy, and entrusts him with protecting his future daughter, Hanabi. Yu then covertly gives Hiashi dreams of Hinata’s impending abduction. Hiashi captures the Kumogakure attacker alive, preventing the crisis that would otherwise lead to Hizashi’s sacrifice 4 5.
Yu spends four years confined to the Hyuga compound. He becomes Hanabi’s devoted caregiver, alternating between the two family homes because she cannot bear his absence. His confinement ends after Hizashi and Hiashi resist Danzō’s attempt to recruit him into Root and publicly acknowledge his supposed origins 7.
Academy friendships and the Mizuki incident
At the Academy, Yu befriends Naruto and openly challenges classmates who ridicule him. His subsequent violence against three bullies leaves both boys ostracized, but Yu refuses to abandon the friendship. Sasuke’s interest in his abilities develops into a shuriken contest, which Yu wins before persuading Sasuke to accept him as a friend and rival 7 8 10 11 12 32.
Yu also works against Mizuki through concealed psychokinesis, mind-reading, and dreams. When Mizuki kidnaps him and Sakura to pressure Naruto into stealing the Scroll of Seals, Yu knowingly plays along, then escapes his restraints 11 14 33 34.
After Mizuki injures Iruka and Naruto enters a three-tailed rampage, Yu saves and heals Iruka, fights Naruto, and ends the transformation by extracting some of Kurama’s chakra. He secretly copies the Scroll of Seals and later forces Mizuki to slit his own throat, leaving the Anbu to interpret the death as suicide 35 36 37.
Intervention in the Uchiha crisis
While carrying out a village-wide sewage prank with Naruto, Neji, and Hinata, Yu investigates the Uchiha’s impending rebellion. He reads Shisui’s thoughts through a Resentment Bat and warns him that Danzō intends to steal his eye and can use Izanagi. The warning enables Shisui to prepare for the betrayal and escape Root’s attack 22 24 26.
Itachi eventually identifies Yu as the mysterious Expert and asks him to save the clan. Yu offers a draft civil code to make policing and punishment more objective, arguing that killing Danzō alone would not repair Konoha’s political system. He asks Itachi to pursue the Hokage position and plans to eliminate Danzō and Root during a future crisis he expects Orochimaru to cause 39 40.
Their alliance gives Itachi renewed confidence in saving the Uchiha. The negotiations are beginning at the end of the supplied material; their outcome, Itachi’s proposed succession, and Yu’s plans against Root are not yet shown 42 50.
Teaching and the secret base
Yu agrees to teach shuriken lessons after negotiating Iruka’s support for his future choice of teammates and jōnin leader, subject to the Hokage’s approval. When Naruto withdraws after the rampage, Yu reunites their friends and offers companionship rather than pity 44 45.
Once Naruto expresses his own determination to grow stronger, Yu agrees to train alongside him. He creates wooden houses above Hokage Rock as a secret meeting place, intending to send shadow clones to school while their real bodies train 49 50.
Appearance
- Small stature: At his officially recorded age of seven, Yu is under 1.10 metres tall and has grown only about ten centimetres during four years with the Hyuga 7.
- Paired horns: His symmetrical horns are publicly explained as permanent bumps from a childhood fall; Neji repeats this explanation at school 1 19.
- Byakugan: Activation produces the characteristic bulging veins around his eyes. He can switch his eyes to the Sharingan 6 14 36.
- White clothing: Wears a long white Confucian robe during his first formal lesson and is later seen dressed in white when meeting Itachi 6 39.
- False forehead seal: Bears a painted imitation of the Caged Bird Seal rather than a functional curse mark 4.
- Paper pinwheel: Later wears a coloured pinwheel behind his collar to monitor his chakra 42.
Personality
Yu wants a comfortable, peaceful life rather than the conquest associated with his Ōtsutsuki ancestry. He values sleep, play, food, and family, but accepts that considerable strength is necessary to preserve that life. His cultivated public image is an “ordinary prodigy”: talented enough to be respected, but not so conspicuous that he attracts dangerous scrutiny or eclipses Neji 1 6 15.
He is affectionate and perceptive toward people who are lonely or vulnerable. He gives Neji companionship, patiently cares for Hanabi, and defends Naruto against inherited blame for the Nine-Tails. His approach increasingly emphasizes helping friends make their own choices rather than resolving every difficulty for them 2 7 18 43 49.
His humour is irreverent, theatrical, and frequently cruel. He turns training into dancing, embarrasses teachers, exploits resentment, and organizes a sewage explosion simply because he finds it entertaining. This playfulness coexists with calculated deception and lethal retaliation: he manipulates memories and reports to preserve his secrets, and kills Mizuki covertly 6 11 22 26 37 40.
Abilities & Skills
Ōtsutsuki physiology and chakra
Yu’s hybrid body grants innate chakra perception, exceptional comprehension, and rapidly growing reserves 6 41 42.
- Ordinary food normally passes into an alternate dimension through the Ōtsutsuki “abdominal passage”; he does not naturally become hungry or need to excrete 3.
- In principle, his Ōtsutsuki nature removes the need for hand seals, though he uses them to maintain his disguise 6.
- His childhood reserves are finite. Uncontrolled techniques can still endanger him despite his unusual capacity 31.
Byakugan and Gentle Fist
Yu combines the Byakugan’s perception with Hyuga taijutsu and his own adaptations 6 10 31 36.
- Long-range observation: Uses a concealed, unusually extensive viewing range to avoid patrols around the Uchiha compound 22.
- Gentle Fist: Masters chakra-based strikes and Eight Trigrams footwork; later matches three-tailed Naruto in close combat 6 36.
- Vacuum attacks: Learns Divine Vacuum Strike during his journey and uses powerful Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palms against Naruto 1 36.
- Rotation: Combines Rotation, Fire Release, and shurikenjutsu into “Fire Rotation—Celestial Maiden Scattering Phoenix Flower Claw Crimson” 31.
- Aura Pressure: Concentrates his Byakugan aura on a target, completely immobilizing weaker opponents and affecting comparable opponents to a lesser degree 10.
- Self-created techniques: His eighteen original secret techniques include Catch, Redirect, Release and Personality Correction Fist 10.
Divine Movement Step
A movement art that develops from extraordinary running into space-time movement 1 22.
- Its initial form allows travel of a thousand li in a day without fatigue 22.
- The second stage permits repeated directional “blinks” with no inherent cooldown, including passage through walls 22.
- Each blink covers ten times his stride length. His short legs limit the size of obstacles he can cross, and his current activation reaction time is approximately 0.08 seconds 22.
- Also uses flight to travel covertly through Konoha 35.
Michinoue no Mikoto
A psychokinetic technique, also introduced as Michi-no-Uzunomikoto, that reshapes objects and controls their movement 7 13.
- Folds and flies paper, joins candy wrappers into balloons, and levitates Hanabi 7.
- Redirects Mizuki’s shuriken and forces a drunken chūnin’s hand to act against his will 11 13.
- Requires no marking and can affect living beings if sufficient power is available 7.
- Can theoretically operate with the Byakugan, but Yu cannot yet achieve that combination when it is introduced 7.
Amenosagume and dream-crafting
Amenosagume reads and shares thoughts. Ikuime Iribiko Isachi no Mikoto constructs dreams 14.
- Chakra-infused candy provides a medium for mental contact and dream delivery 5 14.
- Uses dreams to warn Hiashi, draw Naruto’s attention to Hinata, and torment Mizuki 5 14 16.
- Uses a Resentment Bat as a link to read Shisui’s thoughts and send him a warning 24.
- Amenosagume can theoretically become a Byakugan-based dōjutsu, but his ocular power is initially insufficient for that method 14.
Mangekyō Sharingan and training clones
Yu can switch from the Byakugan to a Mangekyō Sharingan without the usual awakening trauma or risk of blindness 14.
- Shin’yawake no Mikoto: Creates training clones with his innate talent, no independent consciousness, and no drain on his original body’s power 15.
- Clones train tirelessly and return progress in real time; their number increases as Yu grows stronger 15.
- A clone cannot be dismissed at will once assigned a routine. It disappears only when the skill can no longer improve 15.
- Uses Sharingan hypnosis to make a witness forget him, enters Naruto’s inner world, and copies the Scroll of Seals 35 36.
Susanoo and Myōken Divine Wheel
Yu manifests both a skeletal defensive Susanoo and an armored Crow Tengu form. The novel attributes his ability to use Susanoo to his human maternal ancestry 35 36 41.
- His skeletal defense withstands three-tailed Naruto’s claw attacks while he heals Iruka 36.
- Myōken Divine Wheel can reproduce Divine Tools, including the Totsuka Blade, Yata Mirror, and Yasakani Magatama 41.
- Can also produce customized weapons and unconventional objects. Their effectiveness depends on Yu’s strength 41.
Earth Grudge Fear
A secret art that condenses resentment into chakra-based creatures 16 17.
- Collects resentment as small black bubbles; one hundred bubbles form a Resentment Bat 17.
- Multiple bats can combine into Heavenly Grudge, whose ultimate potential is described as comparable to the Ten-Tails—not a level Yu has demonstrated 17.
- Bats perform covert observation and sonic attacks. Kunai pass through them, while Amaterasu disperses rather than permanently destroys one 24 33.
- Itachi can perceive the constructs with his Mangekyō Sharingan, though Sasuke cannot see them 32 33.
Healing, candy, and chakra extraction
- Divine Healing: Closes wounds and saves Iruka from a severe injury to his back 1 36.
- Ogetsuhime: Converts swallowed food into flavoured chakra candy. It restores stamina and spent chakra but does not permanently enlarge reserves 3.
- Vermilion Pill: Extracts some of Kurama’s chakra into a pill. Given to Itachi, it temporarily multiplies chakra and permanently improves constitution while preventing illness 36 40 41.
Diamond Body
A ten-level Ōtsutsuki cultivation art intended to increase strength and make the body exceptionally durable 15.
- Yu assigns a training clone to the art; it has accumulated three years of practice inside the Heavenly Stone House when described 15.
- The first level promises an additional thousand jin of strength and resistance to ordinary weapons 15.
- First-level completion is anticipated, not confirmed in the supplied chapters 15.
Ninjutsu and nature combination
Yu learns standard ninja techniques exceptionally quickly, but initially lacks the control needed for elemental ninjutsu 19 30 31.
- Eight Gates Technique: Controls whether his gates are open or closed, how far they open, and the proportion of chakra consumed by a technique 31.
- Sunseed Hand of Fate: Freely combines chakra natures to produce new transformations 50.
- Wood Release: Created experimentally from water, earth, and Yang transformations rather than inherited. Uses Four-Pillar House Technique copied from the Scroll of Seals to build the hideout 49 50.
- Further nature combinations remain experiments he intends to pursue; they are not shown as completed techniques 50.
Shurikenjutsu and political planning
- Develops High-Arc Shuriken, Side-Spin Shuriken, and Explosive-Charge Shuriken. The last incorporates Gentle Fist’s flicking force and penetrates multiple targets 29 30.
- Chooses to develop genuine throwing skill rather than rely on psychokinesis to guarantee hits 12 15.
- Uses knowledge of the original Naruto story to identify impending crises, while recognizing that his interventions can change their timing and outcomes 4 7 22 40.
- Drafts a civil code defining offenses and sentencing standards to support Uchiha–Konoha negotiations 39.
Miketsu Ōkami
- Produces a hollow ball large enough to hold a person from dough pinched from his cheek, turning the group’s mountain gathering into a game 46.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Book of the Gods — Unique scroll containing his Ōtsutsuki father’s techniques, secrets, and sealed items. A blood contract places it within Yu’s mind, preventing loss or theft. It reveals material gradually, but Yu must still learn and master the techniques 1 15 16.
- Heavenly Stone House — Hidden training space released from the Book. Time runs ten times faster inside, allowing three outside days to provide thirty days of practice 15.
- Pawēi God — Red armament ring that creates weapons from chakra. Its shuriken have ordinary weight and handling but substantially greater power 15.
- Chakra-alarm pinwheel — Paper accessory whose rotation increases with his chakra circulation, devised after the Fire Release accident 42.
- Explosive Tags — Planted beneath protected septic-tank covers to force sewage backward through Konoha’s drainage network 22.
- Konoha Civil Code: Draft for Trial — Prepared in spare time over two days and entrusted to Itachi for Fugaku to submit during negotiations 39.
Relationships
- Hizashi Hyuga — Accepted father, not a biological parent. Yu refuses to abandon him for Main Family privileges and secretly prevents his expected death 1 4 5.
- Neji Hyuga — Older brother under Yu’s assumed identity, training companion, and fellow prankster. Yu deliberately brings playfulness into Neji’s demanding childhood 2 6 22.

Trivia
- Yu’s arrival indirectly causes Hanabi to be born in Konoha Year 52, earlier than he expected from his knowledge of the original story 4.
- Despite the Book of the Gods’ extensive contents, Yu complains that it offers no way to make him taller 7.
- The septic-tank prank causes widespread contamination, business closures, and illness, but no deaths. Konoha’s leadership ultimately closes the investigation as a children’s prank without identifying the culprits 26.
- His Wood Release interest begins with finding it creative and entertaining, rather than wanting it primarily for combat power 50.
