Branch Family childhood

Neji is the son of Branch Family head Hizashi and Miwako. Miwako died shortly after his birth; Hiashi later explains that anguish over Neji’s future contributed to her illness. Neji bears the Caged Bird Seal and, at four years old, already follows a demanding training schedule at the Main Family dojo to become strong enough to ease his father’s burden 1 2 4.

Before Yu’s arrival, Neji and Hinata witnessed Hiashi punish Hizashi through the Caged Bird Seal. Hiashi describes Hizashi’s hostility as resentment toward fate, sharpened by the difference between their children’s talents 4.
