Background / History

Origin and Forced Demotion

Yui is a transmigrator from Blue Star who knows the plot of Naruto and has a biomedical background. Born in Konoha Year 14, she realizes that the familiar main-story generation and Fourth Shinobi World War are decades away. Her plans center on gaining strength, researching immortality, and eventually confronting the Ōtsutsuki 2.

Although born into the Hyuga Main Family, Yui is ostracized for her entirely white appearance. Her mother dies in childbirth, and the elders regard Yui as a calamity, even blaming her for the death. Her father initially wants to abandon her but keeps and raises her for her mother’s sake; Yui later recognizes that he cared for her despite his apparent indifference 1 2.

Her father is sent to the front lines of the First Shinobi World War and killed when she is six. Without his protection, Yui is demoted to the Branch Family and branded with the Caged Bird Seal. The clan forbids the generation’s Branch Family women from learning ninjutsu or taijutsu, instead assigning them to bear children to replenish wartime losses 1.

The account of her mother’s death is later complicated by a white spirit that identifies itself as her mother. The spirit refuses to explain the contradiction and gives Yui an unexplained gift that triggers bodily changes; its identity remains unresolved in the supplied passages 120.

Nai’s Instruction and Academy Admission

Nai Hyuga approaches Yui to apologize for a previous use of the Caged Bird Seal. Yui explains that she had exaggerated her pain and appreciated Nai’s restraint. Their friendship begins with shared opposition to the clan hierarchy: Nai wants to abolish the Main–Branch division, while Yui wants freedom from the seal 3.

Nai supplies a clan chakra manual and teaches Yui Gentle Fist despite Main Family restrictions. She later persuades Hyuga Feng to offer Yui an Academy entrance assessment. Yui endures Ikuko’s attacks, activates her Byakugan, and counters with Gentle Fist, earning permission to enroll—on the condition that she return to the clan after graduation 4 6 8.

At the Academy, Yui studies alongside Nai and recognizes future prominent ninja, including Orochimaru, Tsunade, Jiraiya, Dan Katō, Hatake Sakumo, and Might Duy. She remains for the full six-year course to postpone her forced return to the Branch Family; Nai refuses to graduate without her 10 17.

Research and Imprisonment

Yui turns her homemade Chakra Paper into a business through Shizhong Ji. Her share of the profits funds a house with a basement laboratory on Konoha Seventh Street, purchased for 60,000 ryo. By graduation, sales are declining as the market becomes saturated 16 18.

After graduation, Feng cancels Yui’s planned return to the Academy for team assignment and orders her to become Hizashi’s wife. Yui refuses and prepares to flee, but Ikuko seals her inside her room on Feng’s orders. The barrier absorbs her ninjutsu and withstands her taijutsu; Ikuko says she will remain confined for six years 20.

A Shadow Clone left in the laboratory continues working outside. With Little White Mouse’s help, it contacts the original and searches for an escape method. The clone also investigates Nai’s disappearance, initially accepting Hiruzen’s claim that Nai is away on a mission. Ikuko’s contradictory account—that Nai remains in the clan teaching the heirs—convinces Yui that something has happened to her 23 25 26 30 31.

Escape to Shikkotsu Forest

Unable to break the barrier, Yui uses the Summoning Technique while deliberately blocking her awareness of Xiao You. She vanishes from the room but leaves the mouse behind. The attempt sends her into spatial turbulence, from which she emerges above an unfamiliar blue forest 33 34.

Yui survives the poisonous swamp by using her Byakugan to observe cellular damage and applying crushed leaves from the surrounding trees. After three days of travel, she reaches what appears to be a white mountain range and discovers that it is Katsuyu. She has arrived in Shikkotsu Forest; although she entered the turbulence in Konoha Year 26, Katsuyu estimates that it is now Year 27 34 35.

Yui prioritizes returning to Konoha and finding Nai over immediate senjutsu training. While waiting for a route home, she reunites with Xiao You, signs Katsuyu’s summoning contract, and seeks help removing the Caged Bird Seal. Rather than wait years to learn senjutsu, she chooses a dangerous procedure involving a deathlike state. Katsuyu monitors her and prepares a revival technique. Although the initial healing passage does not establish the outcome, Yui later explicitly confirms that the Caged Bird Seal is gone 36 37 38 40 48 138.

Return to Konoha and Rescue of Nai

Yui returns in disguise and is intercepted by ANBU member Hatake Sakumo. He recognizes Wave Breaker rather than its disguised owner; Yui claims that a friend entrusted the sword to her. After he releases her, she enters the Hyuga compound, finds Nai’s former room abandoned, and considers questioning Hiashi and Hizashi because of Nai’s connection to their training 53.

In the laboratory, Yui confronts Ikuko and uses Wave Breaker in battle for the first time. She destroys a crystal sphere filled with Byakugan using Water Extreme, releasing Nai from within it. Ikuko prevents an immediate rescue, forcing Yui into a duel in which both combatants use clones. Yui outmaneuvers her former jailer, fatally wounds her, and identifies herself as Yui Hyuga 58 59 60.

Hyuga Feng then overwhelms Yui in close combat. Her attempt to escape behind a Water Extreme torrent fails when he collapses the tunnel exit. Her chakra and mental energy diminish, and her Shape Concealment fails. Recognizing Nai’s eyes in Feng’s possession enrages her, while his techniques lead her to identify his research as an incomplete attempt to reproduce the Tenseigan 62 63 64.

Shobue arrives through the laboratory ceiling, heals Yui, and confronts Feng. Later, Yui repeatedly acknowledges killing Feng, and Konoha’s wanted notice accuses her of killing both him and Ikuko before defecting. She is classified as an S-rank rogue ninja 64 86 104 118.

Nai survives but remains unconscious in Shikkotsu Forest. Shobue permits her to use an enormous Ice Bed associated with Shobue’s birth and growth. Yui commits herself to learning Sage Mode and finding a way to awaken Nai 71 117.

Search for Mental Strength and First Visit to the Land of Iron

Yui leaves Shikkotsu Forest accompanied by Xiao You. During an encounter with Hanzō, Xiao You seals poisonous mist inside a wound, and Yui uses Shadow Clones and Water Release. The battle leaves Wave Breaker damaged, prompting her later concern that the blade could break 75 80 82 86.

In a nearly deserted town in the northern Land of Waterfalls, Yui buys the Evil Ghost Mask. She encounters Jiraiya, Orochimaru, and Dan Katō, evades their questions, and escapes by flight. Orochimaru subsequently confirms her wanted status, but the three initially continue their assigned mission rather than pursue her 83 84 85 86.

Seeking weapon repairs while avoiding the Land of Fire, Yui travels to the Land of Iron. She supplies chakra metal to swordsmith Iinaka, who offers to forge a custom blade without payment if he can name it. Her larger objective remains finding a way to increase mental power sufficiently to use demanding techniques safely 86 100.

Jiraiya, Orochimaru, and Dan eventually corner her in Iron City. Yui dominates much of the physical confrontation while trying to provoke and study Dan’s Spirit Transformation Technique. She refuses Jiraiya’s invitation to return to Konoha, distrusts the village leadership, and asks whether he can obtain the Flying Thunder God Technique. When Dan’s projected spirit approaches, she announces her surrender 103 104 105.

Following the confrontation, the general confirms her identity from Konoha’s wanted scroll and excuses the pursuing ninja from Iron City’s penalties. Ōnoki secretly observes her. Yui later obtains Dan’s Spirit Transformation scroll and gives him a Purple Talisman in exchange for additional explanation, promising to help if he uses it 108 115.

Sage Mode Training and Nai’s Awakening

After studying Spirit Transformation, Yui postpones her planned journey to the Land of Whirlpools and returns to Shikkotsu Forest. She intends to combine increased mental strength with senjutsu training, while Nai remains preserved on the Ice Bed 115 117.

A mysterious dreamlike encounter with a white spirit claiming to be her mother changes Yui’s body and chakra. Her subsequent Chakra Paper test identifies all five basic chakra natures. Using Spirit Transformation to absorb natural energy into her soul, she achieves stable Sage Mode; golden eyes, blue markings, and a pair of grayish-white horns accompany the breakthrough 120 121 123 124.

Yui initially wants to awaken Nai immediately but agrees to train further for safety. After a year, she can enter Sage Mode using natural energy from the air, sustain it for twenty minutes, and perform Shikkotsu Forest’s white-slug senjutsu. Shobue guides her toward the mental-healing procedure necessary to reach Nai 124 125 126.

Inside Nai’s self-created mental world, Yui finds her unwilling to return to a reality she considers corrupt and dangerous. As Yui’s Sage Mode begins to fade, she tells Nai that she misses her and wants them to face the outside world together. She kisses Nai, interrupting her withdrawal, and Nai agrees to leave with her. Nai subsequently awakens and recognizes Yui despite her altered appearance 128 130.

Swordmaster Recognition and Hakutaku

Yui and Nai return to Iron City, where Yui learns that sword energy identifies a Swordmaster. Her test with a wooden sword cuts through numerous posts, and she receives recognition despite having no formal sword techniques at that time. Mifune responds to this unusual talent with admiration and offers friendship 135 136 144.

To manage her identity, Yui uses masks, Shape Concealment, and an independent Split Body. One version adopts the temporary name Xiao You. Mifune eventually notices their matching movements, confronts the deception, and learns that Yui is the woman Iinaka seeks. The two bodies merge using Fusion 146 147 153.

Yui’s clashes with the Sword Saints culminate in a battle against Rengo. She uses lightning-infused sword attacks, Water Release, a reproduced secret technique associated with Taiichirō, and flight. After obtaining Hakutaku, she combines Fire Release with the wind beneath her to form a Blazing Tornado and defeats Rengo 156 158 159.

Rather than kill him, Yui searches Rengo’s memories, demands that he rescue and protect Iinaka, and claims to have placed a soul mark in his mind to warn her of hostile intent. She heals most of his injuries and plans to leave once Iinaka is safe. A sword-technique scroll later provides moving miniature swordsmen whose routines improve her swordsmanship 160 161 162.

Evil God Cursed Seal and the Land of Whirlpools

A cursed seal associated with Evil God Nami prompts Yui and Nai to abandon leisure plans and head to the Land of Whirlpools for sealing knowledge. Uesugi Yuri, a child rescued from cultists, asks to accompany them and eventually admits that she comes from the Land of Whirlpools. She agrees to guide them after Yui reveals her Hyuga identity and reassures her that they are not invading ninja 169 170 171.

The island’s waterways are blockaded by foreign ninja. Mito Uzumaki becomes suspicious of Yui and Nai’s identities and sends for Tsunade. Yui remains cautious about revealing their background while seeking access to the Uzumaki clan’s Sealing Jutsu 173.

Yui participates in the island’s defense and treats badly wounded allies when Nai redirects her away from combat. The Evil God Cursed Seal remains a concern: an attempted seal fails, and Yui finds herself unable to enter Sage Mode. She consults Shobue, who provides information and later gives her the protective Blue Butterfly outfit 181 188 190.

Yui also advises Uesugi Io on Wind-Riding. Io’s apparent wish for instruction conceals an attempt to take Yui’s power, connected to a boxed meal that makes Yui thirsty. Yuri recognizes her mother’s intentions and resolves to protect Yui. Yui notices inconsistencies, questions Yuri, and chooses to confront Io directly 193 200 208.

When Tsunade, Orochimaru, and Sakumo visit after Yui’s indoor ninjutsu practice damages her house, Danzo attacks and demands the Byakugan she carries. Yui insists on confronting him herself and cuts down Root fighters with Hakutaku and Water Release Sword Aura. Sakumo later gives her the Wave Breaker Sword Technique and repairs the broken blade 212 213 218 239.

Yui agrees with Mito to help the Land of Whirlpools three times. After recovering from severe blood loss, she uses advance intelligence from a clone to intercept infiltrators with Nai, Sakumo, and Orochimaru. She subsequently recruits the elite Mist ninja Lao Ren and Jiaoya and leaves them to guard the island, with instructions to contact her if danger returns 239 240 254 259.

The Evil God Cursed Seal is later transferred to her Split Body rather than destroyed. Nai initially treats it as removed from Yui, but Nami confirms that the mark remains relevant to her interest in Yui 267 274.

Cult Headquarters and Nami’s Return

Yui negotiates with Iwasui Uchiha to join an assault on the Evil Cult headquarters and read its information about the Evil God. She gives him a decoy mission scroll while retaining the original as a precaution. During this period, Shobue teaches a consciousness link between Yui and her Split Body; Yui gives the latter the individual name Yuki Hyuga 265 267.

At the headquarters, Yui encounters Evil God Nami, whose restraints hold her even in Sage Mode. Nami reveals that her interest in Yui’s body concerns making Yui bear her child, not merely possessing her. Yui refuses, but Nami puts her to sleep. Without Yui’s knowledge, Nami subsequently repairs a horn and conceals herself inside the horn on the left side of Yui’s forehead 274 275.

Yui helps rescue the kidnapped Uchiha children, including Mikoto, whom she catches in midair and heals. Mikoto accidentally dislodges one of Yui’s horns and assumes it is an ornament; Yui discovers that it can be reattached but remains disturbed by the unexplained change. Uchiha Su offers friendship on behalf of his clan after the rescue 283 284.

Ruins Expedition and Black Mist Space

Yui and Nai meet Orochimaru at the Daimyo Castle in the Land of Hot Water and agree to investigate ruins indicated by their joined map. Yui remains unsettled by what she has learned about Nami, while the map’s mismatch with the present landscape creates another mystery 286.

After an encounter with a black-mist vortex, Yui discovers an intangible soul body that recognizes her. She captures it with Spirit Transformation and learns that Nai had waited for her for three months before leaving a letter three years earlier. Yui believes she was unconscious only briefly; the entity suggests that the sealed chamber where she awoke may be connected to the discrepancy 300 301 302.

Later, Yui reads Orochimaru’s written account and questions Kazama Ya while attempting to locate Nai. Kazama Ya’s claim that everyone is born with the Byakugan contradicts her knowledge, so she conceals her alarm and probes its origins rather than revealing her own assumptions 309.

Yui and Nai subsequently fight a Rock Giant together. When its fist penetrates Yui’s Rotation, Nai’s attacks give her an opening to strengthen the defense and escape. Yui then releases a powerful circular Sword Aura with Hakutaku, coordinating the strike by telling Nai to lie down 331.

The Black Mist Space later separates Yui’s original body from companions who can observe her through a Mirror. She investigates a vortex by sending a Shadow Clone rather than entering herself. A frightening sensation of being watched causes her to flee, although the source is Nai’s chakra disturbing the Mirror 375.

A Yui Shadow Clone outside the Black Mist Space studies the original’s proposed solutions and attempts to summon Xiao You with its remaining chakra. By the latest supplied development, the original cannot leave the Spatial Passage. When a slender humanoid figure moves toward Nai’s and Orochimaru’s original bodies, she dispatches three clones to investigate and relies on the continued existence of an earlier guard clone as tentative reassurance that Nai remains safe 396 403.

Appearance

  • Coloration: Snow-white hair, pure white eyes, and exceptionally pale skin distinguish her from other Hyuga. The elders interpret this appearance negatively 1 9 10.
  • Skin: Nai notices that her skin is smooth and delicate, with no visible pores 3.
  • Caged Bird Seal: Originally has a blue-green mark on her forehead, later concealed beneath her forehead protector. The seal is subsequently removed 2 38 138.
  • Build: At twelve, she is 165 cm tall and looks markedly more physically mature than her classmates 17.
  • Clothing: Wears kimono, including a solid black one during early nighttime training. Before her business partnership, she has worn the same undersized outfit for two years because she cannot afford a replacement 5 16.
  • Ninja attire: Chooses a forehead protector with a black cloth band at graduation 17.
  • Hair length: Has waist-length white hair when examining her first stable Sage Mode transformation; she is later described with short white hair during her reunion with Sakumo 124 212.
  • Sage Mode: Her eyes turn golden, blue markings appear around them, and the tips of her white hair acquire a faint blue tint 123 124.
  • Horns: Develops two small, grayish-white forehead horns during her Sage Mode breakthrough. They are rough, cold, and extremely hard, and remain after Sage Mode ends. Shobue states that they are not a normal feature of Shikkotsu Forest Sage Mode 123 124.
  • Altered horn: Nami handles and repairs a horn that briefly appears glasslike and blood-red before becoming grayish-white again. Yui later finds a horn unexpectedly detachable and reattachable 275 284.
  • Masks and disguises: Uses the black Evil Ghost Mask and a copper- or bronze-colored mask; Shape Concealment can hide her horns and alter her overall appearance 83 125 144 147.
  • Blue Butterfly: Later wears Shobue’s white-and-blue butterfly-patterned kimono with loose light-gray trousers and dark wooden sandals 190.
  • Mouse Mark: Xiao You places a distinctive mark on her palm associated with stored poisonous mist 82.
  • Unexplained forearm marks: Nai notices four dark-purple dots on Yui’s left forearm while examining her unconscious body, but senses nothing abnormal 362.

Personality

Yui is analytical, studious, and driven by scientific curiosity. She pays attention to dry ninjutsu theory, tests ideas independently, and treats chakra and bloodline abilities as subjects for research. Her knowledge of the original story provides direction, but she recognizes that foreknowledge alone cannot protect her 2 10 14.

Her resistance to coercion is uncompromising. She rejects marriage-oriented instruction, refuses Feng’s arranged marriage, and continues searching for freedom after direct attacks on her confinement fail. She is even willing to risk losing her sight during seal removal, arguing that chakra perception would still let her navigate 2 20 39.

Initially, Yui sees practical advantages in befriending a Main Family member, but Nai’s generosity changes her understanding of friendship. She freely teaches Sakumo chakra control, safeguards his sword, and later insists that Xiao You is family rather than a servant 3 4 6 11 32.

Her ambition has limits: she deliberately uses mice rather than humans in her research. She also places her companions’ safety above convenience, keeps Xiao You away from the dangerous forest initially, and delays senjutsu training because finding Nai comes first 18 34 35.

Her devotion to Nai becomes a major reason for seeking greater power. She spends a year training before attempting Nai’s awakening, accepts the risks of entering her mental world, and offers companionship rather than simply demanding that she return. Their reunion includes an explicit kiss and later intimate contact 125 126 128 161.

Yui combines confidence with tactical caution. She seeks real combat experience and refuses to remain dependent on stronger allies, but retreats when direct confrontation is unfavorable, delays Nai’s healing until she is sufficiently trained, and uses clones to investigate unknown spatial phenomena 62 75 124 181 213 375.

She is pragmatic about violence and mercy. She kills opponents when necessary, clears evidence after fighting infiltrators, and uses threats and deception to obtain information. Conversely, she spares Rengo, heals him, and makes his survival conditional on protecting Iinaka rather than killing him for revenge 159 160 161 200 265.

Her rejection of control coexists with increasingly coercive methods toward others. She claims to place a soul mark on Rengo, considers Heart Binding as a safeguard against betrayal, and assigns Lao Ren and Jiaoya to remain as guards despite their desire for freedom 161 254 259.

Yui remains protective of her own privacy and independence even with Nai. She declines to move into Nai’s home, conceals a sensitive scroll after recovering from blood loss, and refuses to let concern over her health dictate all of her decisions 181 212 239 363.

She can be playful, sharp-tongued, and easily embarrassed by personal attention. Her teasing of Yuri surprises Nai and Xiao You, while Shobue’s affection and the unusually light Blue Butterfly outfit leave her visibly flustered 85 171 188 190 192.

Despite her growing strength, unknown forces can leave her frightened or powerless. Nami’s control, the apparent three-year time discrepancy, and the unexplained sensation of surveillance in the Black Mist Space all unsettle her 274 286 301 375.

Abilities & Skills

Byakugan

Yui awakens the Hyuga kekkei genkai at six, an achievement that surprises Feng, Ikuko, and Hiruzen 8 9.

  • Sees clearly in darkness and estimates an initial viewing range exceeding one kilometer 5.
  • Observes people through walls and examines chakra pathways 5.
  • Tracks fast movements during her Academy assessment and detects incoming attacks 5 8.
  • Examines cellular deterioration when exposed to the forest’s poisonous swamp 34.
  • Initially has a 359-degree field of vision because of the Caged Bird Seal. Ikuko exploits the remaining blind spot to attack from behind. After seal removal, Yui reports that the blind spot seems to have disappeared 30 138.
  • Can observe chakra flow for study: Yui examines Sakumo’s Shadow Clone and memorizes Rotation’s flow. She subsequently demonstrates Rotation herself 6 30 105.
  • When infused with senjutsu chakra, sees farther and perceives surrounding motion as slowed. She does not detect a new distinct ability during this test 138.
  • Reads hidden writing on an apparently blank scroll through her Byakugan 138.
  • Uses it to assess Io’s chakra output beneath her feet and diagnose the instability of Wind-Riding 193.
  • Detects Dan’s projected spirit approaching during their battle 105.
  • Remains limited by her physical reactions and reserves: Rengo’s Full Moon Moment moves too quickly for her to track, and exhaustion can force the eyes to deactivate 64 156.
  • Can survey figures within the Black Mist Space, but does not identify the source of the eerie gaze she feels there 375 403.

Gentle Fist and Ninja Fundamentals

Yui learns basic Gentle Fist from Nai and continues training throughout their Academy years 4 5 17.

  • Uses the Byakugan to support blocking and counterattacking with Gentle Fist 8.
  • Trains in Eight Trigrams Palm, though the supplied context does not identify a specific palm-count technique she has mastered 17 28.
  • Performs Transformation, Clone, and Substitution together during graduation 17.
  • Learns shuriken throwing through observation, practical instruction, and continued training 13 14 17.
  • Shows limited early endurance: completes the Academy’s six-kilometer run but finishes exhausted, unlike Nai and Tsunade 12 13.
  • Eight Trigrams Palm: Rotation: Later uses the defensive technique to deflect Jiraiya’s and Orochimaru’s combined elemental attacks. Against the Rock Giant, its initial strength is insufficient, but Yui reinforces it after Nai creates an opening 105 331.
  • Demonstrates greatly improved close-combat strength against Dan, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru, although Feng had previously overwhelmed her in taijutsu 62 104 105.

Chakra Control and Body Flicker

Yui adapts tree-climbing and water-walking exercises from her knowledge of Naruto. The exercises improve her control, although only tree-climbing success is explicitly documented during her early practice 5 6.

  • Shares the chakra-control method with Sakumo without treating it as a secret 6.
  • Learns the C-rank Body Flicker Technique from Nai 15.
  • Uses Body Flicker to seize a suspicious observer and later evade Ikuko’s Piercing Strike 15 16 30.
  • Combines Body Flicker with ninjutsu and sword attacks in the laboratory and uses it to evade Rengo’s stronger direct blows 58 156.
  • Develops substantial movement speed independent of Body Flicker, which Jiraiya later emphasizes when reporting their battle 117.
  • Her chakra changes from pale blue to deep blue following the white spirit’s gift. A subsequent test confirms access to all five basic chakra natures 120 121.

Wind Release

  • Wind-Riding Technique: An original flight technique that produces two controlled wind columns beneath her feet. Its seals are dragon, sheep, tiger; it initially requires her to be barefoot 21.
  • Uses Wind-Riding to arrest a dangerous fall and travel through the blue forest 34.
  • Gale Palm: A purchased C-rank offensive technique. Yui aims it at Ikuko’s lower abdomen to disrupt chakra, but Rotation neutralizes the attack 26 29.
  • Repeated Gale Palms exhaust her clone’s chakra and are reflected back by Ikuko 30.
  • Uses flight to escape pursuit, fight Rengo from the air, and disperse battlefield mist 85 158 181.
  • Teaches or shares Wind-Riding with others: Nai learns it, while Yui advises Io on controlling chakra at the soles of her feet 171 193 208.
  • Blazing Tornado: Combines Fire Release with the tornado beneath her to engulf and incapacitate Rengo 159.
  • Blue Butterfly’s chakra-conducting sandals remove the practical need to take off her footwear when flying 190.
  • Continues researching a new Flying Ninjutsu distinct from her established Wind-Riding, but makes no progress during the supplied later research scene. Yuki takes over further study 193 220 267.
  • Strong winds inside the cult headquarters cause her and Nai’s flight techniques to consume twice their usual chakra 271.

Water Release

  • Water Formation Wall: A purchased B-rank technique that forms a defensive water barrier. It blocks Ikuko’s Vacuum Palm and later protects against reflected Gale Palms 26 30.
  • Water Extreme: An original compressed sphere of water-nature chakra, intended to expand into a powerful torrent. One sphere consumes all of her available chakra at the early documented stage 26 28.
  • Multiple Water Extremes: Numerous weaker spheres arranged behind her. Their reduced individual power is offset by numbers, with approximately the same total chakra cost as one Water Extreme 28.
  • The sphere’s ice-like appearance is explicitly distinguished from actual ice 26.
  • Uses Water Extreme to destroy the Byakugan-filled crystal sphere and release Nai. When casting it again against Feng, she incorporates nearby standing water to reduce its chakra cost 59 62.
  • Multiple Rapid Water Arrows: Uses the technique alongside three Shadow Clones during the encounter with Hanzō 80.
  • Wave Breaker Slash: Channels water chakra through Wave Breaker and releases a crescent-shaped wave that collides with Ikuko’s Air Palm 58 59.
  • Water Release Sword Aura: Uses Hakutaku to launch elemental sword attacks against Danzo’s Root fighters 213.

Lightning Release

  • Uses lightning chakra playfully to startle Nai, then apologizes when Nai objects 18.
  • Applies lightning chakra to her temple during the seal-removal procedure, suppressing brain activity into a deathlike state 40.
  • The procedure is intensely painful and depends on Katsuyu’s monitoring and planned revival; it is not a demonstrated healing ability of Yui’s 40.
  • Infuses sword attacks with Lightning Release to injure Rengo and combines lightning with water attacks during their battle 156.
  • Fang-Coating Slash: Later identifies this as her most frequently used Lightning Release technique. She nevertheless considers herself insufficiently proficient in Lightning Release and wishes she knew Chidori when trapped by resistant spider silk 377.

Fire and Earth Release

  • Gains Fire Release and Earth Release in addition to her original three natures after the white spirit’s gift, as confirmed by Chakra Paper 120 121.
  • Uses Fire Release offensively against Rengo and combines it with wind to form Blazing Tornado 159.
  • Burns the bodies of infiltrators and removes evidence with ninjutsu 200.
  • Uses Fire Release to remove black material concealing the soul body before examining it with the Byakugan 300.
  • Her Fire Release remains comparatively unrefined. When attempting to destroy spider silk, she recalls only the Great Fireball Technique’s seals and states that she has never seriously studied Fire Release ninjutsu 377.
  • No specific Earth Release technique is established in the supplied passages 121.

Shadow Clone and Summoning

  • Maintains a Shadow Clone outside her sealed room to research, investigate Nai’s disappearance, and obtain techniques 20 23 26.
  • Receives the clone’s memories when Ikuko dispels it; the sudden influx causes severe head pain 30 31.
  • Learns Summoning’s hand seals by watching a toad summon Jiraiya, then successfully summons Little White Mouse 27 28.
  • Teaches the mouse Summoning in hopes that it can retrieve her original body 28 29.
  • Answers Xiao You’s mental distress call by summoning her away from Ikuko 32.
  • Escapes confinement through a risky summoning attempt that produces spatial turbulence and an approximately year-long displacement 33 35.
  • Signs a second summoning contract with Katsuyu after learning that multiple contracts are possible 36 38.
  • Creates three clones to engage Feng’s clones, but their poor results leave her under additional pressure 62 63.
  • Uses a clone planted in an enemy camp to obtain advance warning of an infiltration attempt through its returned memories 240.
  • Sends a clone into an unknown Black Mist Vortex rather than exposing her original body 375.
  • A clone outside the Black Mist Space attempts to summon Xiao You while testing the original’s proposed escape methods 396.
  • Sends three investigating clones toward Nai’s and Orochimaru’s original bodies while retaining another clone as a guard. The absence of returned memories from the guard provides only tentative reassurance, not definitive proof of safety 403.

Sensory and Concealment Techniques

  • Mental Power Attachment: An original sensory technique developed during early Sage Mode study. By touching an object and attaching mental power to it, Yui can sense across an extremely long distance; dependence on physical contact with a medium limits its use 96.
  • Shape Concealment Technique: A technique supplied by Shobue that changes her appearance and conceals her identity. Prolonged use imposes heavy mental strain and can impair her intelligence, as demonstrated during the fight with Feng 63 87.
  • Can hide her horns and alter her face, and can transform a Split Body into a man with a completely different presence and chakra signature 144 236.
  • Becomes increasingly sensitive to disturbances after learning Spirit Transformation and Sage Mode, but can still misinterpret the source of a sensed presence 263 375.
  • Mind Link: Connects the consciousnesses of the original and Split Body, allowing shared perception resembling a live view rather than an ordinary returned memory. With one-way use, one side can perceive the other’s thoughts without consent; if both learn the technique, either can block the connection 267.

Spirit Transformation and Soul Techniques

  • Receives and studies Spirit Transformation Technique from Dan Katō. Its principles indicate that strengthening the soul can improve mental energy, although the exact relationship remains unclear to her 115.
  • Separates her soul from her body to sense and absorb natural energy during Sage Mode training 123.
  • Projects her spirit into Rengo’s mind and searches his memories while preserving her sense of self through strong mental energy 160.
  • Claims that she has placed a soul mark in Rengo’s mind to alert her to hostile intentions. The supplied passage establishes the claim and Rengo’s acceptance, rather than an independent test of the mark’s function 161.
  • Uses a white projected spirit form to capture and immobilize an intangible soul body that cannot be harmed by her physical sword 300.
  • Threatens and attempts memory-reading against the soul body, but finds the process painful and difficult; she ultimately obtains information through its confession 301.

Sage Mode and Shikkotsu Forest Senjutsu

Yui pursues Sage Mode both as a path to greater power and as a means of awakening Nai. Her early transformations last only seconds, but Spirit Transformation provides a method of gathering natural energy through her soul and stabilizing it within her body 117 123.

  • Initial duration: Her brief transformation improves from approximately five seconds to nine seconds after the mysterious dream. Her first stable Sage Mode lasts thirteen minutes 123 124.
  • Later duration: After a year of training, she sustains Sage Mode for twenty minutes and can gather natural energy from the air instead of relying on the Giant Lake, though entry is slower 125.
  • Yin Seal: Stores senjutsu chakra in a forehead seal and releases it for rapid Sage Mode activation 142 146.
  • White-slug senjutsu: Includes the Splitting Technique and Toothpaste Acid, techniques associated with Katsuyu’s innate abilities 125.
  • Splitting Technique: Regenerates her cells and separates another physical version of herself with independent consciousness. This duplicate can also be considered a real body; it is not a conventional Shadow Clone 125 146 259.
  • Dispersal: Can disperse her body as another use of Splitting to evade attacks 125.
  • Fusion: Recombines divided bodies, including the temporarily named Xiao You version. A later merger dissolves the Split Body into pale-green motes that return to the original 153 259.
  • Blue-slug senjutsu: Encompasses the healing branch used in the attempt to awaken Nai. Shobue guides its application and provides external support 125 126.
  • Sealed offensive technique: Receives a wooden box containing an offensive senjutsu technique whose writing is readable only in Sage Mode. Shobue cannot teach it, and mastery is not established in the supplied passages 125.
  • Limits: Nami’s restraints hold her even in Sage Mode. The Evil God Cursed Seal also temporarily prevents her from entering the state before its transfer to a Split Body 188 274.

Medical and Healing Techniques

  • Uses the Byakugan to assess cellular damage and recognizes its medical potential from early training 5 34.
  • Heals most of Rengo’s injuries with Medical Ninjutsu after deciding to spare him 161.
  • Treats wounded defenders in the Land of Whirlpools and heals Mikoto’s neck injuries during her rescue 181 283.
  • Senjutsu-assisted mental healing: Enters Nai’s mind with a mental-healing technique infused with senjutsu chakra. Their close relationship is essential to reaching Nai safely, while Shobue supports the procedure with green mist 126 128.
  • Vitality replenishment: Uses Shikkotsu Forest Sage Mode to provide vitality beyond the capacity of ordinary medical ninjutsu 224.
  • Strength of a Hundred Technique: Receives Tsunade’s scroll in recognition of advice that contributed to its development. Yui subsequently abandons further practice after filling her own Yin Seal with senjutsu chakra and gives the scroll to Nai 126 142.

Swordsmanship and Sword Aura

Yui begins sword combat with little formal training, relying on the Byakugan, elemental chakra, mobility, and deception. Her ability to produce sword energy earns Swordmaster recognition before she knows conventional sword techniques 58 59 135 136 144.

  • Wave Breaker compatibility: Finds that the chakra-metal blade conducts Water Release particularly well 58.
  • Swordmaster-level blade energy: Releases invisible cutting force from a wooden sword, severing numerous posts cleanly 136.
  • Elemental sword attacks: Uses water- and lightning-infused blade attacks in combat 59 156 213.
  • Swift Blade Cuts Through the Tangle: Reproduces a secret technique associated with Taiichirō, the Swift Sword Saint, after their battle 156 159.
  • Moon Art: Practices from a scroll whose letters become miniature swordsmen when viewed without her Byakugan. Following them with Hakutaku makes her movements smoother and stronger 162.
  • Moon Style Twelve Dances: Continues practicing the Moon Art routines; the moving figures eventually stop and a streak of light enters her forehead. The supplied passage does not fully explain the resulting knowledge or effect 220.
  • Wave Breaker Sword Technique: Receives Sakumo’s scroll but considers it unnecessary for herself because she already has Moon Art; passes it to Nai to practice 218 219.
  • Circular Sword Aura: Releases an expanding, full-moon-like white slash with Hakutaku against the Rock Giant. It passes through the giant’s shoulder and carries intense killing intent 331.
  • Hatake Blade-Healing Technique: Possesses the scroll for repairing precious-metal blades. Repeated use weakens the repaired blade; Yui’s own performance of the technique is not documented 239.

Research and Invention

  • Chakra Paper: Creates a practical chakra-nature testing tool when Konoha shops do not yet sell it. She first experiments with chakra-tree leaves and collects bark for further testing 14 16.
  • Seal research: Transfers her blood to a mouse and succeeds in placing a Caged Bird Seal on it, though it survives only two days. She investigates how to make the seal register a false death 18.
  • Medical observation: Recognizes the Byakugan’s potential for medicine and uses it to assess poison damage 5 34.
  • Early limits: Her attempts to develop Space-Time Ninjutsu make no progress at the documented early stage. She later requests access to Flying Thunder God, but the supplied passages do not establish that she receives or learns it 26 104.
  • Bloodline speculation: Interprets her unusual pallor as possible evidence of strong Ōtsutsuki ancestry and potential for the Tenseigan. Her later horns intensify this speculation, but no personal Tenseigan awakening is established 2 124.
  • Feng’s eye research: Identifies Feng’s experiment as an attempt to create a Tenseigan-like eye. Later retains two bottled Byakugan from Feng and calls them pseudo-Tenseigan, while sensing an unexplained connection to them 64 206 208.
  • Heart Binding: Obtains access to a cursed-seal scroll offered by Lao Ren as assurance against betrayal. The seal is described as allowing its user to kill a marked person by destroying their heart; application by Yui is not established in the supplied passage 254.
  • Blood of the God: Privately suspects that a heavy scroll’s reference to this substance means Ōtsutsuki blood. This remains her interpretation rather than a confirmed identification 239.
  • Spatial investigation: Uses Shadow Clones, written proposals, summoning tests, and Byakugan observation to investigate the Mirror, Black Mist Space, and related passages 375 396 403.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Wave Breaker — Chakra-metal short sword given by Sakumo as a token of friendship. It was previously a gift to him from Sako’s father. Yui later takes it when escaping confinement and first uses it in combat against Ikuko. It is damaged during her encounter with Hanzō, repaired by Iinaka, subsequently broken, and restored by Sakumo’s Blade-Healing Technique 11 12 20 33 58 86 100 153 218 239.
  • Hakutaku — White Famous Blade forged by Iinaka using chakra metal supplied by Yui. Becomes her principal sword in later battles. It conducts elemental sword attacks, damages Rengo’s weapon in a clash, and returns to a clean state immediately after drawing blood 100 158 162 181 213 331.

  • Fine silk kimono — An expensive black garment purchased for 800 ryo while improvising an excuse for hiding in a shop. The shopkeeper says it was left by a former Daimyo’s princess; Yui considers it impractical 85.
  • Blue Butterfly — Handmade white-and-blue butterfly-patterned kimono from Shobue, accompanied by loose light-gray trousers and dark wooden sandals. It is exceptionally light, resistant to sharp blades, durable, and capable of absorbing chakra to repair itself; its material is undisclosed 190.
  • Chakra-conducting sandals — Supplied with Blue Butterfly and suitable for channeling chakra during flight without removing her footwear 190.
  • Mouse Mark / stored poisonous mist — Xiao You’s palm mark stores poisonous mist sealed during the Hanzō encounter. Yui is instructed to activate it by silently saying Xiao You’s name and supplying chakra 80 82.

  • Heart Binding scroll — Offered by Lao Ren as a means of controlling marked subordinates through a lethal heart-destroying cursed seal 254.
  • Ruins map and returned scroll — Shares a two-part map with Orochimaru; he returns her scroll and joins the map halves before their ruins expedition 286.
  • Nai’s letter and Orochimaru’s written account — Important sources of information during the time-displaced ruins expedition and Yui’s search for Nai 301 302 309.

Relationships

  • Nai Hyuga — Closest friend, early teacher, and advocate for Academy admission. Nai stays at school until Yui graduates, while Yui makes finding her a priority after her disappearance. Their relationship develops beyond early suggested affection: Yui kisses Nai inside her mental world, promises to face reality with her, and later shares intimate contact and hot-spring companionship. Nai’s protectiveness is accompanied by jealousy and possessiveness, including a private willingness to use superior strength to keep Yui with her. Yui remains devoted but also preserves personal boundaries, privacy, and separate living arrangements 3 4 6 7 17 35 128 161 200 212 239 265 286.
  • Xiao You / Little White Mouse — Bloodline-contracted companion whose awakened memories include sealing knowledge. Yui names her, rejects a master–servant relationship, and calls them family. Their bond supports communication and summoning. Xiao You accompanies her travels, seals Hanzō’s poison, and provides inherited knowledge about Nami. Yui comforts her after Nai’s mistreatment and protects her when unfamiliar soul entities frighten her 22 23 28 32 37 75 80 82 169 203 300 396.

  • Temporary “Xiao You” body — One of Yui’s independently conscious divided bodies uses the mouse companion’s name during the Iron City deception. This version is distinct from Little White Mouse and later merges with the other Yui through Fusion 147 153.
  • Hatake Sakumo — Friend met during nighttime training. Yui shares chakra-control advice and returns his treasured clan sword; he gives her Wave Breaker in gratitude. Their later reunion restores this friendship, and Sakumo gives her the Wave Breaker Sword Technique, repairs the blade, and entrusts her with the Hatake Blade-Healing Technique for his future child. He respects her secrets and joins her in defending the Land of Whirlpools 5 6 11 12 53 212 218 239 240.

  • Ikuko Hyuga — Academy examiner, jailer, and later opponent. Recognizes Yui’s potential but enforces Feng’s orders, defeats her clone, and inadvertently reveals inconsistencies about Nai’s whereabouts. Yui later defeats and fatally wounds her while freeing Nai from the laboratory 8 20 29 30 58 59 60.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi — Approves her Academy registration but conceals Nai’s situation behind a mission explanation. Yui becomes suspicious after comparing his account with Ikuko’s. • Orochimaru — Former Academy classmate, later pursuer, observer, and research collaborator. Fights alongside Jiraiya and Dan during the Iron City pursuit, takes an interest in Yui’s abilities and unusual Split Body, and later joins her and Nai in investigating the ruins. Yui uses his written account as an information source after their spatial separation and sends clones toward his original body when an unknown figure approaches 10 103 105 213 241 259 286 309 403.
  • Dan Katō — Former classmate whose strong soul-related abilities attract Yui’s interest. Their confrontation becomes an opportunity to study Spirit Transformation, though his removal of her mask angers her. He later gives her the technique’s scroll and additional instruction, and she offers a Purple Talisman and a promise of aid in return 10 84 105 108 115.
  • Tsunade — Former Academy classmate and fellow Katsuyu summoner. Tsunade eventually remembers Yui after Katsuyu reminds her of their school connection. They spend time in Shikkotsu Forest, and Tsunade credits Yui’s advice as contributing to the Strength of a Hundred Technique, giving her its scroll. Tsunade also assists in Yui’s care after severe blood loss 10 37 47 117 118 125 126 239.
  • Hizashi Hyuga — Feng’s intended husband for Yui; she refuses the arrangement. No mutual courtship is documented. She later considers him and Hiashi possible sources of information about Nai 20 53.
  • Iinaka — Swordsmith who repairs Wave Breaker and forges Hakutaku from Yui’s chakra metal. Yui values his work and makes his rescue and protection a condition of Rengo’s survival 100 153 161 162.

Trivia

  • Her chakra-tree leaf test identifies wind, water, and lightning, while the later Chakra Paper demonstration reports wind and lightning. Subsequent scenes establish that she uses both Water and Lightning Release. After the white spirit’s gift, a fresh test confirms all five basic chakra natures 14 15 18 26 121.
  • Jiraiya briefly compares Yui with a prophesied pale woman, but dismisses the resemblance because Yui lacks the prophecy’s horns and glowing blue eyes. She later develops horns, but her documented Sage Mode eyes are golden rather than glowing blue 27 123 124.
  • Katsuyu identifies Yui as only the second human to reach Shikkotsu Forest in a thousand years 35.
  • Yui’s Multiple Water Extremes resemble Truth-Seeking Orbs visually; the passage does not identify them as actual Truth-Seeking Orbs 28.
  • Her Swordmaster qualification precedes formal sword-technique study. She describes becoming a Swordmaster “by luck,” while Mifune interprets it as exceptional talent 136 144.
  • The temporary Split Body name Xiao You is borrowed from her mouse companion and should not be confused with Little White Mouse herself. The later individually named Split Body is Yuki Hyuga 147 267.
  • Despite the title “Yuki Uchiha,” the Split Body is explicitly named Yuki Hyuga in the chapter’s dialogue 267.
  • Her horns are explicitly described as outside the normal features of Shikkotsu Forest Sage Mode, so they do not by themselves establish either a standard senjutsu trait or confirmed Ōtsutsuki transformation 124.
  • Blue Butterfly’s negligible weight initially makes Yui feel as though she is unclothed, despite its protective properties 190 192.
  • The account includes two distinct apparent temporal displacements: approximately one year during her escape to Shikkotsu Forest and an apparent three-year gap associated with the ruins and sealed chamber 35 301.
  • Yui’s acquisition of Flying Thunder God is not established; she requests it from Jiraiya as a condition attached to his proposed return to Konoha 104.
