Background / History

The Medusa line is a hereditary Snake-People royal lineage. Each generation descends from an egg and inherits immense power to lead the clan against outside invasions. Queen Medusa and Die were an unprecedented twin birth from the same egg, despite the clan's tradition that only one Medusa may survive and rule. 17 19

When Die's memories begin returning, she recalls being told that she had been made the new Queen Medusa and must kill her twin. Medusa ultimately rejects this custom, refuses to execute Die, abolishes the rules she considers unreasonable, and asserts her own authority over the elders. 16 19

Medusa first emerges publicly in the Tagor Desert while pursuing the missing Die. She kills the mercenaries surrounding her sister, recognizes Die despite her amnesia, and is immediately drawn into conflict with Chen Mo and Hai Bo Dong. 14 16

Her desire for the Green Lotus Core Flame is tied to her evolution; however, her yin- and cold-aligned nature makes directly consuming a Heavenly Flame suicidal. 42 50 After preparing at the God Temple under Die's protection, Medusa begins her evolution during a full moon. 107 She emerges successfully when Chen Mo is gravely wounded by Protector Wū, then attacks the Hall of Souls forces in fury. 113 114

Medusa is proud, cold-spoken, and fiercely conscious of her position as queen. She expects obedience from her people and reacts harshly to repeated defiance, as demonstrated by Mo Bas's banishment. 38 Yet she is not blindly bound to tradition: she openly opposes the elders' demand that Die be executed and rejects the clan's cycle of fratricidal succession. 19

Her protectiveness extends beyond Die. She rescues Ling Cai from trafficking, orders action against the organization selling Snake-Women, and spares Qing Lin after learning the girl is of mixed human and Snake-Person heritage. 83 164

Medusa initially treats Chen Mo with hostility and suspicion, but her concern gradually becomes difficult for her to hide.
