How did I offend him? Why did every word out of his mouth take a jab at me?
The plot has changed anyway. He'd better not fall into my hands, or I'll torment him to death.
As Feng Moyuan listened to Su Ying's thoughts, he abruptly looked at Black Shadow.
Meeting those gloomy violet eyes, Black Shadow couldn't help shuddering.
"Demon Venerable?" he ventured cautiously.
Feng Moyuan said nothing, withdrawing his gaze and turning back to Su Ying.
She had already put the ingredients into the pan.
Before long, a delicious aroma filled the air.
Su Ying used magic to control the heat and stir the ingredients, soon finishing the dishes.
Four dishes and a soup were all brought to the table.
Looking at the dishes before him, enticing in color, aroma, and flavor, Feng Moyuan held out his hand.
Su Ying fawningly offered him chopsticks. "Lord Demon Venerable, please enjoy your meal."
If the food doesn't kill you, I hope you choke on it.
"If this isn't enough, I'll stir-fry a few more dishes for you."
If you don't choke to death, I'll stuff you to death.
Listening to every thought in Su Ying's heart curse him to hurry up and die, Feng Moyuan continued eating leisurely without any change in expression.
Looking at the enticing dishes, Bai Mang and Black Shadow felt the urge to eat.
Su Ying moved a little farther away and beckoned to Bai Mang.
Bai Mang pointed at himself.
Su Ying nodded.
Bai Mang walked over.
Su Ying handed him a plate of rice topped with stir-fry. "I made some extra. Would you like some, Guardian Bai?"
"Thank you, Miss Su." Bai Mang hadn't expected to get any food himself. He accepted it and moved away from Feng Moyuan to eat.
Black Shadow waited for Su Ying to give him the other portion.
Instead, she picked it up and began eating it herself.
Black Shadow walked over with displeasure written all over his face. "Hey, where's mine?"
"You practice grain avoidance. You don't need to eat." Su Ying turned away so he wouldn't spray saliva onto her food while talking.
"You!" Black Shadow was furious, but also felt somewhat wronged.
He glanced sideways at Bai Mang, who was thoroughly enjoying his food, while he had nothing.
Once again, Black Shadow realized that offending Su Ying truly brought him no good.
Everyone ate their fill.
Black Shadow looked at Feng Moyuan. Could he at least get a bite of the leftovers?
He desperately wanted to know what this woman's cooking tasted like, and why the Demon Venerable, who never ate, had suddenly begun having meals.
Two incense sticks later, the three finished eating.
Su Ying stood fawningly before Feng Moyuan and asked, "Lord Demon Venerable, was tonight's dinner to your liking?"
"It was passable." Feng Moyuan wiped his mouth, stood up, and headed upstairs in the inn.
Black Shadow glared at her. "The Demon Venerable likes things clean. Hurry up and clear this away."
Feng Moyuan stopped. "Black Shadow."
"Demon Venerable, your subordinate is here." Black Shadow hurried forward.
"You clean it up," Feng Moyuan said.
"Demon Venerable?" Black Shadow's eyes widened in disbelief. Cleaning up wasn't difficult; a single spell would take care of it.
But why him?
"No magic." The moment Feng Moyuan finished speaking, he heard Su Ying's thoughts.
Well done!
People like him deserve to be punished!
Black Shadow had no idea why the Demon Venerable was suddenly punishing him. He could only reply miserably, "Yes, Demon Venerable."
Feng Moyuan went up to the second floor.
Su Ying stood nearby, watching Black Shadow bring over a basin of water and resignedly wash the bowls and plates. Suddenly, she said, "There, look! You haven't even washed that clean. How can you put it down already?"
Black Shadow shot her a vicious glare.
Su Ying invoked Feng Moyuan's name. "These are all utensils Lord Demon Venerable will use for his meals in the future. If you're this careless and he blames you later, don't pin it on me."
Black Shadow wanted to argue, but couldn't think of a rebuttal. Helpless, he could only pick up what he'd just put down and wash it again.
Bai Mang stood nearby and shook his head.
"Miss Su, you're an excellent cook. No wonder the Demon Venerable enjoys your food so much," he said.
"Am I? I'm all right, just average." Su Ying waved a hand and replied cheerfully.
Who didn't like being praised?
Even if it was only praise for her cooking, she was happy.
"Hmph." Black Shadow gave a loud, forceful snort.
Pretending not to hear him, Bai Mang asked, "Where did you learn to cook?"
Su Ying thought for a moment, then casually bluffed her way through. "I learned in the Cultivation Sect. Oh, my junior sister is a great cook too. Why not have her make a few dishes for Lord Demon Venerable sometime?"
"Of course, of course." This was the first time Bai Mang had seen a woman push another woman toward his Demon Venerable.
Usually, other women exhausted every trick in their arsenal just to appear before the Demon Venerable.
If they caught his eye, their futures would be boundlessly bright.
This was the first time he'd seen someone like Su Ying, who had already become enemies with her junior sister yet still wanted to push her toward the Demon Venerable.
Was there some scheme behind this?
Upstairs, Feng Moyuan listened to the sounds below, his eyes darkening.
Su Ying truly was dedicated. Even without a system mission, she still insisted on pushing Ling Xian toward him.
Was she that eager to see Ling Xian abandon him?
Feng Moyuan sneered. Since that was what she wanted, he would make sure she didn't get her wish.
He wanted to see what other ways Su Ying could devise to push Ling Xian toward him.
Night fell.
The inn was utterly quiet.
Su Ying had been assigned the guest room next to Feng Moyuan's.
Though she usually slept well, tonight she suffered insomnia for the first time.
Su Ying sat up and pushed open the window. Since they were near Flame Mountain, even the evening breeze carried heat.
She took some ice from her Spatial Ring and set it beside her, only then feeling a little cooler.
Su Ying slowly reached her hand outside.
Before she could fully extend her arm, she touched the barrier.
"Ugh, this barrier is probably another one I can't break."
"Why is Feng Moyuan so wary? He puts up a barrier wherever he goes. Why doesn't he put one around himself? Then no one could hurt him."
Every word Su Ying said reached Feng Moyuan's ears.
Sitting cross-legged, he pondered her intelligence.
Did Su Ying not understand that he'd erected this barrier not to protect himself, but to keep her from sneaking away?
As Feng Moyuan thought this, Su Ying let out another heavy sigh.
"I really want to escape."
"I wonder if anyone has discovered Young Hunk at Repentance Cliff."
"If not, is he about to starve to death?"
"If I'd known that accident would happen, I should have left him more food, or simply knocked him unconscious. Then I could have avoided this war."
"Ah, life without a man is so lonely."
"Boohoo, I miss Young Hunk's pecs, his abs, and that beautiful face."
"If such an exquisite specimen starves to death, I'll be a sinner condemned for all eternity."
"Heavens, please let me escape. I promise I'll work hard on my missions afterward and strive to succeed this time."
"Let me leave this terrifying demon king!"
Su Ying made her wishes to the night sky, utterly unaware that Feng Moyuan's expression changed again and again with every word she spoke.
