Background / History
Ling Xian came from the Lower Realm. According to Xiao Muchen’s recollection, one of her parents gave his master a bowl of water while he was traveling, then invoked that favor to make a request. Feeling obliged to repay it, the older cultivator brought Ling Xian back and entrusted her instruction to Xiao Muchen. She also enjoyed the favor of the sect’s great-grandmaster 10 11.
Despite receiving careful instruction, Ling Xian struggled with cultivation. Xiao Muchen regarded her as slow to learn and insufficiently hardworking, making him skeptical when she publicly promised to devote herself to her studies 11.
Before her first appearance, Su Ying deliberately injured her during a sparring match. The intended attack would have destroyed Ling Xian’s Spiritual Root, but Xiao Muchen intervened before that could happen. His protection was an important romantic turning point in the original storyline 1.
Appearance
- Face and complexion: Described as pure and lovely, with fair, smooth skin 1 11 24.
- Voice: Soft and sweet 13.
- Notable outfit: Wears a vivid red skirt to Xiao Muchen’s discourse. In the original script, this was intended to attract her master’s attention; Su Ying suspects her interest in Chu Yu may have changed her motive 28.
Personality
Ling Xian is more guarded than the naïve heroine described in the original novel. Having already suffered harm from Su Ying, she refuses her supposed healing drink and takes control of the exchange by suggesting that Su Ying drink it instead 1.
She frequently presents herself as fragile, apologetic, or wronged. Her tearful self-blame draws Ping Qingyun into defending her, particularly when Su Ying ignores or criticizes her. Su Ying interprets these displays as calculated attempts to gain sympathy, although that judgment comes from a hostile rival 9 11.
Ling Xian is sensitive to criticism of her cultivation and strongly attracted to handsome men. She pursues opportunities to spend time with Chu Yu and later mistakes Feng Moyuan’s intervention on her behalf for romantic devotion. Her concern can also become reckless: she enters poisonous miasma without an antidote after becoming upset with Ping Qingyun 10 13 18 36.
Her conduct toward Su Ying is not uniformly hostile. She explicitly corrects Ping Qingyun’s accusation after Su Ying cushions her fall. However, she later gives a misleading explanation for entering the miasma and condemns Su Ying for serving Feng Moyuan while claiming coercion excuses her own service 17 19 35.
Abilities & Skills

- Her spiritual power and spells are weaker than Su Ying’s 13 18.

Gu Curse
According to Su Ying’s knowledge of the original novel, Ling Xian carries a Gu Curse that endangers men who fall in love with her 5 9.
- The curse seeps into men who love her; Su Ying describes death as the eventual consequence for those unable to obtain her love 9.
- Feng Moyuan is described as surviving its effects, though not without suffering 9.
- Fear of the curse is a major reason Su Ying tries to keep Chu Yu away from her 5 13.
- The provided events do not establish whether Ling Xian understands or consciously controls it.

- Cooking: Has a reputation as a good cook and brings food for Chu Yu. Chu Yu nevertheless tells Su Ying that her cooking is better 13 22.
Relationships

- Xiao Muchen — Master and intended cultivation partner in the original novel. Ling Xian admires him and vows to remain beside him, while his present attitude is more skeptical than the scripted romance suggests 1 10 11.
- Ping Qingyun — Eldest senior brother, admirer, and habitual protector. He readily takes her side against Su Ying, though her misleading account of the forest incident makes him question his idealized view of her 9 19 22.
- Chu Yu / Feng Moyuan — She is attracted to Chu Yu’s violet eyes and seeks to guide and care for him. She later becomes captivated by Feng Moyuan’s true appearance, but he rejects her rather than following his scripted romance with her 9 10 28 29 36.

- Bai Mang — Ordered to remove her from Feng Moyuan’s presence and enforce the prohibition against approaching him 37.

Interest in Chu Yu

- She brings him food, but Su Ying hides him and redirects her into providing meals for all the new disciples 13.

- Su Ying gives Ling Xian her own Detoxification Pill and intercepts the beast’s attack, becoming injured and poisoned herself 18.
- Ling Xian later claims she entered out of concern for Su Ying. Ping Qingyun remembers that she went in because she was upset with him, while Chu Yu’s account exposes Su Ying’s sacrifice and Ling Xian’s omissions 19.
Abduction and Demon Palace Service
- During the Demon Realm’s attack, Feng Moyuan captures Su Ying. Black Shadow independently abducts Ling Xian, assuming that she must be the woman his master loves 30.
- Feng Moyuan considers killing or returning her, but fears that altering the heroine’s fate could reset the story and erase his memories of Su Ying. He instead orders that she become a maid 31.
- While delivering tea, Ling Xian accuses Su Ying of colluding with the Demon Realm. Su Ying counters that both are serving Feng Moyuan under coercion 35.
- A system quest prompts Su Ying to stage an attack on her. Ling Xian shelters behind Feng Moyuan and interprets his violent punishment of Su Ying as affection for herself 36.
- Feng Moyuan rejects her attempt to touch his sleeve, orders her out, and subsequently forbids her from approaching him. Ling Xian protests because the other maids are hostile toward her as a captive Cultivation Sect disciple 36 37.
