  • Magellan and Hannyabal spotted Golden Lion, Barn, World, Oniwood, and Leonard and warned the Warden that Golden Lion had escaped.
  • The Warden ordered Hannyabal and Magellan to find Shiryu and intercept the escapees, then alerted Sengoku, who set out with Garp.

  • Roger told Golden Lion he wanted to do something for the next New Era, and Golden Lion left after promising to watch the execution.
  • Barn promised to take care of Roger's family, then left Roger and Rayleigh to drink and talk together.
  • A week later, Roger's execution began the Great Pirate Era, and Barn and the others withdrew from the crowd.

Ch. 46F! F! F!

After escaping prison, Barn and his companions chose their next paths, and Golden Lion vowed to protect the East Blue in honor of Roger. Barn arrived at his guild on Sky Pillar Island, named it FFF, and defined its purpose as fighting for freedom.

  • Rayleigh planned to open a tavern in Sabaody, World intended to settle a score, and Golden Lion decided to protect the East Blue and follow Roger's path.
  • Oniwood said he wanted to witness Roger's new era, and Barn invited him to see the guild.
  • Whitebeard celebrated Barn's escape after reading the newspaper, while Hancock secretly rejoiced at the news until Gloriosa teased her about her feelings.
  • Adam and Fitz reunited with Barn, and Laboon carried Barn and his companions to Sky Pillar Island.
  • Rayleigh and the others saw the guild and its mission board, and Adam told Barn that the guild had no name.
  • Barn named the guild FFF, meaning “Fight for freedom,” and entered the building as Adam pondered the name.

Ch. 47We meet again, Whitebeard

Barn built a house inside Laboon and set out with Golden Lion to visit Whitebeard at the Sabaody Archipelago. He reunited with Whitebeard and Marco there.

  • Barn teased Adam about taking care of Lia before leaving the Guild with Fitz.
  • Barn entered Laboon and found Crocus had turned the whale’s stomach into a steel fortress, then nearly stepped into its stomach acid.
  • Barn built a house inside Laboon with a bridge over the stomach acid and decided to travel to the Sabaody Archipelago to see Whitebeard.
  • Golden Lion used his ability to help Laboon cross Reverse Mountain, and Barn greeted Crocus before they continued to Sabaody.

  • Barn said he was headed to Fish-Man Island to visit an old friend, while Whitebeard planned to visit the East Blue and Barn's guild.
  • The next day, Barn departed aboard Laboon as Whitebeard set sail on the Moby Dick.

Ch. 49Fisher Tiger set sail

Barn reached Fish-Man Island with Laboon and Fitz to visit Fisher Tiger, who was wanted after freeing slaves from Mary Geoise. Barn advised him to set sail so the Navy would target him rather than the island, then chose to leave with him.

  • Laboon followed the route Whitebeard had given Barn and brought him to Fish-Man Island, where Neptune's soldiers detained him at the entrance.
  • Barn asked the soldiers to summon Fisher Tiger, who welcomed him at Dragon Palace while discussing the Navy's threat with Neptune and Otohime.
  • Barn proposed that Fisher Tiger leave Fish-Man Island to draw the Navy away, and Fisher Tiger decided to set sail.
  • Otohime explained the fish-men's hostility toward humans and their hopes for peaceful relations, while Barn spoke with her and Neptune.
  • Barn met Fisher Tiger as he prepared to depart and chose to accompany him; they left Fish-Man Island together that day.

Ch. 50The Little Girl Who Couldn't Cry

Fisher Tiger brought the Sun Pirates to a human island, where they took in Koala, a former slave who had learned to hide her terror behind a fixed smile. After recognizing how deeply slavery had scarred her, Fisher Tiger branded her as a member of the Sun Pirates and promised to take her home, finally making her cry.

  • Queen Otohime vowed to follow Fisher Tiger's example and take her own first step toward humans.
  • Fisher Tiger chose to land on a human island, where the Sun Pirates politely replenished their supplies.
  • Hachi introduced Koala, an eleven-year-old former slave, and Arlong pinched her face and insulted her.
  • Koala scrubbed the deck and begged not to be hit, while Fisher Tiger demanded that she cry.
  • Barn told Fisher Tiger that slavery had been etched into Koala, and Fisher Tiger brought her into the Captain's Quarters.
  • Fisher Tiger branded Koala with the Sun Pirates' symbol, promised not to kill anyone, and announced that they would take her home; Koala finally wept.

Ch. 51An unwitting betrayal

Koala reunited with her mother on Foolshout Island, but the villagers had secretly notified the Navy, leaving Fisher Tiger and the Sun Pirates sailing into an ambush. As the Navy attacked, Fisher Tiger ordered his crew to show no mercy, while Barn realized the battle had begun.

  • Octopus Hachi brought Koala to see Jinbe, Fisher Tiger, and Arlong, who coldly walked away from her.
  • Kuroobi announced that the Sun Pirates had reached Foolshout Island, and Fisher Tiger returned Koala to her mother after three years apart.
  • Koala promised Fisher Tiger she would tell everyone how kind fish-men were, while the villagers watched him and the crew with disgust.
  • After the Sun Pirates departed, Koala learned that the villagers had notified the Navy and tried in vain to warn the crew.
  • The Navy attacked the Sun Pirates with cannon fire, and Fisher Tiger deflected the cannonballs before ordering his crew to kill without mercy.
  • Barn heard the battle from inside Laboon and said that it had begun.

Ch. 52Two slashes!

Barn struggled over whether to help Fisher Tiger, then intervened as Tiger was near defeat and confronted the Marines. After Barn defeated Vice Admirals Bastille and Strawberry, the surviving Marines withdrew and Barn headed to the Captain’s Quarters.

  • Barn silenced the arguing voices in his mind and reached for his sword while Fisher Tiger fought Vice Admiral Strawberry outside Laboon.
  • Arlong and Jinbe tried to aid the badly wounded Fisher Tiger, and Kuroobi and Hachi helped Arlong escort him to the Captain’s Quarters.
  • Barn cut through several Marine warships and severed a horn from Bastille’s mask, then told Jinbe to check on Fisher Tiger.
  • Strawberry and Bastille challenged Barn, but they attacked despite his warning to leave.
  • Barn’s Iai Slash grievously wounded both Vice Admirals, and the Commodores carried them away on a warship.
  • Barn watched the Marines retreat and headed toward the Captain’s Quarters.

Ch. 53Kizaru

Barn protected Fisher Tiger from Borsalino, then arranged a blood transfusion after Fisher Tiger was gravely wounded. Fisher Tiger survived the immediate crisis, though Barn had to knock him unconscious to ensure he received human blood.

  • Barn pushed Fisher Tiger aside but was pierced by Borsalino's laser while shielding him.
  • Borsalino confronted the Sun Pirates and demanded that they surrender Fisher Tiger and the Celestial Dragons' property, but Barn forced him to leave.
  • Aladdin discovered that Fisher Tiger urgently needed a transfusion, and Barn sent the crew to obtain blood from a Marine warship.
  • Fisher Tiger refused human blood and began to reveal what had happened to him in Mary Geoise, but Barn knocked him unconscious before he could finish.
  • Barn told Jinbe to claim the blood was his, and Aladdin began the transfusion while Barn waited outside the infirmary.

Ch. 54I'm human too!

After Barn saved Fisher Tiger with a human blood transfusion, Fisher Tiger revealed his trauma as a former slave and his hatred of humans. Barn helped him see that his life mattered to the Sun Pirates and the next generation, then asked him to join in overthrowing the World Government.

  • Fisher Tiger woke aboard the Sun Pirates' ship and learned Barn had given him a transfusion of human blood.
  • Fisher Tiger tried to kill himself over the transfusion, but Barn stopped him and invited him to talk.
  • Fisher Tiger told Barn he had been enslaved in Mary Geoise and asked him to keep the pirates' suffering and anger from the children of Fish-Man Island.
  • Fisher Tiger admitted he could no longer love humans, and Barn punched him while insisting that his life and his human blood had saved others.
  • Barn told Fisher Tiger that the World Government and its system were the true wrong, then asked him to help overthrow them, and Fisher Tiger agreed.

Ch. 55Fisher Tiger's "death"

Barn persuaded Fisher Tiger to fake his death and disappear from the Navy while he stayed in the East Blue Guild. Fisher Tiger agreed to join Barn's plan to overthrow the World Government, leaving Aladdin as the only person aboard the ship who would know he was alive.

  • Barn argued that fear of the unknown and the World Government’s rigid hierarchy kept humans and fish-men divided.
  • Barn explained that Fisher Tiger’s survival would bring harsher Navy attention and increase pressure on Fish-Man Island.
  • Barn asked Fisher Tiger to join him in overthrowing the World Government, and Fisher Tiger firmly agreed.
  • Barn arranged for Fisher Tiger to stay at Adam’s Guild in the East Blue and told him to keep his survival secret from the ship’s crew except for Aladdin.
  • Barn declared Fisher Tiger dead, beginning his disappearance from the Navy’s sight.

Ch. 56Arlong walked straight into the line of fire

After Fisher Tiger’s supposed death, Arlong rejected his final wishes and left the Sun Pirates to attack the Marines at Foolshout Island. Vice Admiral Borsalino struck him down and confronted him.

  • Aladdin announced that Fisher Tiger had killed himself after receiving human blood, then read a final letter urging the Sun Pirates not to seek revenge.
  • Arlong rejected the letter’s message, argued with Jinbe, and declared that he would kill the humans who had betrayed Fisher Tiger.
  • Arlong pushed past Barn, jumped overboard, and headed for Foolshout Island.
  • Arlong attacked the Marines aboard their warships, but Borsalino hit him with a laser while he was airborne.
  • Borsalino pinned Arlong beneath his foot and asked what he wanted.

Ch. 57Shichibukai

After Fisher Tiger’s reported death, Barn hid the real Fisher Tiger inside Laboon and left the Sun Pirates, while Jinbe became captain and led the crew onward. Jinbe received an invitation to join the Shichibukai and surprised his crew by deciding to accept it.

  • Kizaru interrogated the captured Arlong, who blamed humans for Fisher Tiger’s death and vowed revenge.
  • Barn took the hidden Fisher Tiger away from the Sun Pirates aboard Laboon, and Fisher Tiger worried about Jinbe and the others.
  • Jinbe accepted the newspaper’s account of Fisher Tiger’s death, became captain, and ordered the Sun Pirates to prepare for battle without killing anyone.
  • Poniton and Queen Otohime read the report about Fisher Tiger, and Otohime vowed not to give up.
  • Strawberry warned Kizaru that Jinbe was formidable, while Kizaru considered Barn’s role in the Sun Pirates’ affairs.
  • Jinbe received the World Government’s invitation to become a Shichibukai and told his surprised crew that he intended to accept.

Ch. 58Jinbe vs. Arlong

Jinbe accepted the Shichibukai position to help Fish-Man Island and secure pardons, but Arlong rejected his leadership and Jinbe’s ties to the World Government. Their confrontation ended with Jinbe beating Arlong and ordering him taken away.

  • Jinbe told Poniton that becoming a Shichibukai would help reunite pardoned Fish-Men with their families and bring Fish-Man Island closer to the World Government.
  • Poniton explained that Queen Otohime had fallen ill after pirates she had saved fled with treasure and islanders withdrew their support for her.
  • At Shakuyaku’s bar, Fisher Tiger learned from the newspaper that Jinbe had become a Shichibukai, while Barn remained quiet.
  • Jinbe confronted Arlong after securing his pardon, but Arlong called him a government lapdog and announced he would rebuild the Arlong Pirates.
  • Jinbe fought Arlong, pinned him down, and ordered his men to take him away after Hachi begged him to stop.

Ch. 59The Sun Pirates fall apart

Fisher Tiger struggled with Jinbe’s decision to join the Shichibukai, while Barn sent him to establish a Guild branch in West Blue. Meanwhile, Arlong and his followers split from Jinbe’s Sun Pirates, and Jinbe’s remaining crew returned to Fish-Man Island to begin new lives.

  • Barn explained that Jinbe likely joined the Shichibukai to secure pardons for his crew and help Queen Otohime and the former slaves.
  • Barn assigned Fisher Tiger, now known as Tiger Hunt, to establish a Guild branch in West Blue and told him to recruit help from Adam.
  • Jinbe and Aladdin failed to persuade Arlong to stay with the Sun Pirates, and Arlong left with Macro and his followers.
  • The Sun Pirates split into three factions, with Jinbe’s remaining crew staying together as Arlong’s Crew departed.
  • Jinbe and the remaining Sun Pirates returned to Fish-Man Island, where the crew celebrated their freedom and homecoming.

Ch. 60Uninvited guests

Jinbe’s choice to become a Shichibukai freed his comrades but left some fish-men resentful and Aladdin troubled by their enduring hatred of humans. As Queen Otohime pursued reconciliation between fish-men and humans, a distressed ship carrying Celestial Dragons requested entry to Fish-Man Island.

  • Jinbe watched the freed fish-men reunite with their families and told Aladdin he could leave the ship, but Aladdin said the scars of slavery and hatred of humans would not fade.
  • Aladdin left Jinbe, while other fish-men criticized Jinbe for serving the World Government and Jinbe acknowledged that many islanders opposed his decision.
  • Queen Otohime told Poniton she would use Jinbe’s connection to the World Government to encourage friendship between fish-men and humans, and Poniton warned her not to overwork herself.
  • The Border Guard reported that a huge ship in distress was requesting emergency entry to Fish-Man Island and that Celestial Dragons were aboard.
  • Queen Otohime ordered the ship admitted and rushed to the coast with rescue teams, while Poniton wondered why the Celestial Dragons had come to the seabed.
