Such were the traits of a race. To break past those limits, another path was needed.
Zhang Yang recalled novels from his previous life, where body tempering and cultivation improved one's physique, combat strength, and lifespan.
He instantly appeared on the Starry Sky Virtual Platform and began his research.
First, he compiled the lifespans of the various races, then investigated whether they could gradually improve their physique, combat strength, and lifespan through acquired means.
The most typical example was the Immortal Race. By constantly absorbing spiritual energy from the air to nourish their entire bodies, they evolved. However, from what he learned, the Immortal Race had no cultivation methods. All their moves and skills were techniques they had comprehended on their planets.
For the Immortal Race to survive, their planets had to contain spirit veins. Otherwise, as their spiritual power drained away, they would lose their strength until they died.
The Immortal Race also seemed to grow stronger with age.
If I could observe how the various races fought, might that give me some inspiration?
After asking around, he finally found a place: the Beast Arena.
The Starry Sky Virtual Platform had a Beast Arena, which also served as a place of entertainment for Star Lords.
They could send warriors of their races there to compete, and two Star Lords could wager against each other.
Others could place bets as well, staking energy, divine cards, or slaves.
Zhang Yang purchased a ticket for 2 energy points. Every seat inside was occupied, packed with Star Lords.
Below lay an enormous field, where members of two races were fighting.
Orc Race vs. Elf Race.
The orc held a large saber, while the elf's entire body glowed red. The displayed racial identification read: Fire Elf.
When the countdown ended, the Fire Elf began chanting. A mass of red flame in front of his staff gradually condensed into a fireball and flew toward the orc.
The orc immediately dodged, only for three more fireballs to fly in from a distance, blocking every direction he could evade.
"Aah!"
With a furious roar, the orc instantly doubled in size, and his speed increased considerably.
After several evasive movements, the orc immediately charged toward the Fire Elf.
The Fire Elf's expression changed, and his chanting quickened. A wall of fire about three meters high appeared before him. Thinking the orc would not dare cross it, he immediately chanted another spell, and a fiery-red spear appeared in front of him.
But the orc seemed to have lost all reason. Ignoring the wall of fire before him, he leaped into the air and brought his saber down with both hands.
"Orc Race wins!"
The Fire Elf in the distance fell to the ground in two halves, his fiery-red eyes seemingly filled with disbelief.
The orc panted heavily on the ground, his entire body red and clearly badly burned.
He looked toward his Father God, his face full of hope. He had won!
Yet that Star Lord cheerfully took the energy points he had won and walked away amid the congratulations around him.
He never spared the orc another glance. The surrounding spectators seemed long accustomed to this. With no value left, and his Star Lord no longer wanting him, the orc could only be disposed of by the Beast Arena.
A blast of energy instantly struck him between the brows. The orc collapsed to the ground, murmuring, "Mama! It hurts so much."
A little later, several guards appeared and dragged his corpse away.
The next battle was about to begin.
This interval allowed people to place their wagers on the next fight.
The Beast Arena was also directly under the Cosmic Elders Council. Its income came from admission fees and a cut of the energy wagers.
Zhang Yang sat motionless in the stands, unconcerned by everything that had happened.
He was neither a saint nor a bleeding heart. Whatever happened in the universe had nothing to do with him.
He only wanted to climb to the very top, step by step, while doing what he could to give his Starfolk better lives. That was all.
He did not even know how long he himself could survive, so why would he concern himself with whether others lived or died?
Undead Race vs. Orc Race.
Ghost Race vs. Elf Race.
God Race vs. Dwarf Race.
The God Race possessed rather uncanny powers. They were like mages, their words becoming spells that called upon the power of the rules.
After birth, the God Race began comprehending the laws of the universe. The strength of the laws they could invoke depended on their civilization level.
For example: God said, "Let there be light!"
A first-level civilization could borrow only 1% of a law's power, producing nothing more than a faint glow.
A second-level civilization could borrow 5% of a law's power, producing a brilliant light.
The God Race also slowly deepened their understanding of the power of laws. They were all beings with extraordinary physiques.
Watching the innate abilities of all these races broadened Zhang Yang's horizons.
No wonder no Star Lord casually created an entirely new race. It was truly far, far too difficult.
In terms of individual combat strength, the Human Race was almost the weakest, and that gap became increasingly apparent as their levels rose.
At last, it was the Immortal Race's turn to face the Ghost Race.
The Ghost Race had bizarre skills, terrifying regenerative abilities, and great agility. They could even fly.
The immortal possessed a formidable physique. He unleashed energy resembling Sword Qi, sending it flying from his fingers and straight through the ghost's heart.
Even after the ghost fell to the ground, his heart actually began slowly regenerating. The immortal warrior pressed his advantage and finally killed him.
"Immortal Race wins!"
The more Zhang Yang watched, the colder his heart grew. A single immortal warrior could probably defeat several hundred human warriors bare-handed.
Of course, that assumed the humans used no technological weapons.
As civilizations developed, many races evolved toward supernatural abilities.
Many technological races would not participate in arena battles unless they had developed mechs capable of individual combat.
Zhang Yang watched the matches for a full 20 days, spending 40 energy points and leaving himself with only 10.
Throughout that time, Zhang Yang took on human form and watched the matches with a camera in hand. Countless Star Lords gave him strange looks, for they had never seen this race before.
The Beast Arena was also a source of information. Listening to the Star Lords gossip offered insights into the secrets of various races.
Zhang Yang listened with great interest as they recounted their experiences in Star Wars.
Using a video camera built with the latest technology, he recorded every battle and every scrap of gossip.
Every recording could help the Human Race better understand the myriad races. Only by knowing themselves and their enemies could they win a hundred battles out of a hundred.
On his second day watching the matches, he cast aside any concern for his dignity as Father God, contacted Ying Zheng directly, and took three of the Human Race's latest cameras...
Winning Star Wars, plundering energy, and gradually bringing Blue Star to the highest position in the universe!
That was what really mattered!
If Blue Star could produce a hundred sages who could thrash the entire universe, he would be ecstatic.
As for betraying one's planet, no race had ever done such a thing. This was the universe's highest covenant, etched into their very genes. It was said that traitors would be marked by the laws of the universe, plagued by endless misfortune, and soon destroyed in both soul and spirit.
Simply put, this was the universe's most terrifying law: the author's law. The author did not allow it.
After watching the final match, Zhang Yang returned to Blue Star and handed the recordings to Ying Zheng.
The Qin Kingdom's palace. The screening room.
The commanders of the five great legions and nearly a hundred senior officers sat below.
On every person's desk lay a reference book containing an encyclopedia of the various races and information on the rules of Star Wars.
Father God had provided one copy, and Ying Zheng had printed countless copies for distribution.
Ying Zheng sat in the center, with the five commanders beside him. Seeing how old they looked left him momentarily dazed.
None of them were young anymore. If Father God had not granted them another 50 years of life, they might have been withered old men in their hundred and twenties, enjoying the company of their families at home.
Ying Zheng had watched some of the camera's recordings. The sight of races of every shape and form fighting one another, and their many different ways of fighting, astonished him.
This went beyond everything he knew. So there were actually this many races in the universe. The Immortal Race and God Race in particular possessed such formidable individual combat strength that one of them could probably fight a thousand opponents.
With the encyclopedia of the myriad races and the recordings as references, they launched into heated discussion.
Know yourself and your enemy, and you could win a hundred battles out of a hundred.
The Human Race was not so easily frightened. They had confidence in their own strength, confidence in the Human Race, and, most importantly, confidence in Father God!
As they studied the abilities and descriptions of the various races, they learned that the Immortal Race, Ghost Race, and Vampire Race could extend their lifespans by absorbing energy over time.
The Immortal Race's spirit veins were the most sought-after resources. By absorbing the spiritual energy within spirit veins, immortals could grow stronger and extend their lifespans.
It was said that in a second-level civilization of the Immortal Race, immortals could reach a maximum lifespan of a thousand years through cultivation!
Other races that obtained spirit veins could also enrich their planets' air, potentially allowing species to evolve genetically, grow stronger, and live longer.
The more spirit veins there were, the denser the spiritual energy they could obtain, and the better the effects.
The Immortal Race's residences were assigned according to status. The closer they lived to a spirit vein, the better the results of their cultivation and the longer their lifespans.
Lifespan! Lifespan! Lifespan!
Ying Zheng's eyes grew brighter and brighter, his entire body trembling with excitement. He seemed to see a supreme path before him, a great road to longevity that reached the heavens.
War! They had to wage war!
The moment he turned his head, Ying Zheng received a tremendous fright.
He seemed to see a pack of wolves that had gone hungry for ages, their eyes gleaming as they stared fiercely at the immortals on the screen.
Those were bloodthirsty eyes, seething with murderous intent.
