Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Elite Chūnin base strength | 59 | Without borrowing Kurama’s power, Naruto is assessed at roughly elite Chūnin level; his taijutsu can challenge Special Jōnin, though his genjutsu and ninjutsu breadth remain weaknesses. 59 |
| Incomplete Nine Tails Mode | 68 | Activates a golden-red form developed with Kurama and the Golden Silkworm Gu. It grants extreme speed and strength, but lasts about three minutes and leaves him briefly weakened afterward. 68 |
| Golden-chakra breakthrough / intermediate Nine Tails Mode | 76–77 | His chakra becomes fully golden during the Neji rematch. This intermediate state surpasses the incomplete form and earns him the title “Konoha’s Golden Flash.” 76 77 |
| Perfect Nine-Tails control and Sage Mode | 97 | By the mission to aid Sunagakure, Naruto is stated to have perfectly controlled the Nine Tails’ power and mastered Sage Mode; ordinary Kage are no match when he fights at full strength. 97 |
| Near Kage-level base power | 105 | Even without going all out, Naruto is described as almost Kage-level; Musashi considers his full power troublesome. 105 |
| Kurama Mode | 115–116 | Fights in Kurama Mode during the Fourth Ninja World War. His negative-emotion sensing exposes White Zetsu infiltrators, and his Flying Thunder God-enhanced combat power helps repel the reincarnated Jinchūriki force. 115 116 |
Background / History
Naruto is the son of the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, and Kushina Uzumaki. After the Nine Tails was sealed within him, the Third Hokage concealed his lineage; the villagers instead viewed Naruto as the fox itself and subjected him to isolation and abuse. 54 67 113
Meruem left a Golden Silkworm Gu in Naruto’s home to watch over and influence him. The Gu revealed Naruto’s parentage and Konoha’s treatment of him while his worldview was still forming, turning him away from his original desire for recognition and toward power, retaliation, and reclaiming what he believes was taken from him. 55 60
Naruto largely raised himself, gathering fish, game, and plants from forests and rivers. His Uzumaki constitution, Kurama’s presence, proper nutrition, and relentless training under the Golden Silkworm Gu gave him exceptional physical growth and recovery. 59 61
After three years with the Gu, Naruto graduates from the Ninja Academy and joins Team 7 alongside Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno under Kakashi Hatake. He deliberately adopts clothing resembling Minato’s ceremonial robes both to assert his lineage and to provoke those who abandoned him. 59 60
Appearance
Naruto has long hair, blue eyes, three whisker-like markings on each cheek, and skin darker than Minato’s. His more composed bearing and long white robe can make him resemble the Fourth Hokage at a glance. 59
- Wears a long white robe modeled after Minato’s Hokage ceremonial clothing. 59
- Removes his “Divine Robe” when fighting Neji at full strength. 76
- In incomplete Nine Tails Mode, his chakra is golden-red and he develops sharpened teeth, longer nails, and lengthened hair. 68
- In his later Nine Tails Mode, his chakra becomes completely golden. 76 77
Personality
Naruto’s early life leaves him distrustful of Konoha and hostile toward the people who concealed his heritage. He rejects the idea of becoming Hokage for recognition, regarding Kurama more favorably than the village leadership that allowed his mistreatment. 55
The Golden Silkworm Gu encourages him to cultivate connections strategically, particularly with the children of Konoha’s influential clans. Despite this calculating influence, Naruto forms genuine bonds with Sasuke, Kurama, Haku, and his classmates, and repeatedly acts to protect them. 59 68
He is confident, self-reliant, and confrontational toward those he considers hypocritical or weak. He can also be emotionally volatile: Jiraiya’s return provokes open hostility, and Sasuke’s injury drives him into a three-tailed rampage. 60 72 80
Abilities & Skills
Taijutsu and Physical Ability
Naruto’s primary foundation is high-level taijutsu learned through the Golden Silkworm Gu’s training.
- Possesses strength and speed capable of surprising Kakashi immediately after graduating. 61
- His fists are compared to Might Guy’s in hardness; Kakashi must take him seriously in close combat. 61
- Can contend with Special Jōnin in taijutsu and is exceptionally difficult to exhaust due to his recovery. 59
- Physically deflects Zabuza’s Executioner’s Blade with a kunai and casually lifts the sword afterward. 63
Chakra Reserves and Recovery
Naruto combines Uzumaki vitality with the chakra of the Nine Tails.
- His recovery lets him train intensely day after day without suffering lasting overexertion. 59
- Has chakra reserves vast enough to create a thousand shadow clones at once. 63
- Early in his career, his chakra control is comparatively imprecise despite his enormous reserves. 61
Shadow Clone Techniques
Naruto uses Shadow Clone Jutsu and Multiple Shadow Clone Technique as his core battlefield tools.
- Creates large clone forces to overwhelm opponents and search wide areas. 61 63
- Uses a thousand clones to counter Zabuza’s Hidden Mist Technique and silent killing tactics. 63
- Employs clones tactically, including using one to test Neji before revealing his true position. 76
Malice and Negative-Emotion Sensing
Naruto can sense hostile intent through his connection to Kurama.
- Detects the elite-level chakra behind Zabuza’s Snow Rabbit substitution. 62
- Remains functional under Zabuza’s killing intent, which he compares unfavorably to Kurama’s. 63
- Identifies dangerous opponents such as Kakuzu and Orochimaru through their overwhelming malice. 67 71
- In Kurama Mode, detects White Zetsu impersonators whose transformations can deceive ordinary sensory ninja. 115
Nine Tails and Kurama Mode
Naruto maintains an unusually cooperative relationship with Kurama, allowing him to use the Nine Tails’ chakra without losing rationality in his Nine Tails Mode. 68
- Greatly amplifies Naruto’s speed, strength, and ninjutsu. 68
- Uses weakened Tailed Beast Balls to destroy two of Kakuzu’s hearts. 68
- Can produce chakra arms and multiple chakra-cloaked clones against Orochimaru. 71
- His early mode is limited by duration and recoil; Orochimaru’s Five Elements Seal can temporarily prevent him from controlling his chakra. 68 72
- His anger at Sasuke’s injury triggers a dangerous three-tailed Demon Fox Cloak response. 72
- Defeats the incomplete Shukaku with overwhelming advantage during the Konoha Crush. 81
Sage Mode
Naruto later masters Sage Mode alongside his control of Kurama’s power. 97
- Represents one of Naruto’s full-power options alongside Nine Tails Mode. 97
- His mastery places him beyond ordinary Kage-level opponents when combined with his other abilities. 97
Rasengan Techniques
Naruto trains to inherit Minato’s techniques rather than relying on Konoha’s limited instruction.
- Begins Rasengan training with the Golden Silkworm Gu’s guidance. 79
- Uses Rasenshuriken against Sasori, destroying the Third Kazekage puppet’s body. 105
Flying Thunder God Technique
Naruto eventually wields Minato’s space-time ninjutsu.
- Uses Flying Thunder God Technique against the Deva Path of Pain, moving at teleportation-like speed. 107
- Combines it with Kurama Mode during the battle against Obito’s reincarnated Jinchūriki force. 116

- Kurama — Naruto’s tailed beast. Their relationship develops into trust and friendship, enabling Naruto’s controlled Nine Tails Mode. 59 68
- Sasuke Uchiha — Naruto’s closest friend and rival. They support one another, fight together against powerful enemies, and later serve as Konoha’s representatives. 59 71 108
- Sakura Haruno — Team 7 teammate. Naruto protects her during the Land of Waves mission and includes her in his growing circle of classmates. 60 63

- Jiraiya — Minato’s teacher. Jiraiya regrets neglecting Naruto for twelve years, while Naruto initially reacts to him with hostility. 79 80
- Uchiha Musashi — instructor and political protector. Musashi helps train Naruto and shields him from Konoha’s Elder Council; Naruto later follows Musashi’s leadership. 85 105
- Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki — Naruto’s deceased parents. During the war, Naruto is confronted with their soul fragments in a major emotional trial. 113 114

Team 7 and the Land of Waves
Naruto graduates easily and joins Team 7. During the Land of Waves mission, he protects Sakura from Zabuza, counters the Hidden Mist with a thousand-clone human-wave tactic, reveals his identity as the Fourth Hokage’s son and the Nine-Tails’ Jinchūriki to Sasuke and Haku, and defeats two of Kakuzu’s hearts in incomplete Nine Tails Mode. 60 63 67 68

Naruto defeats Shukaku in Nine Tails Mode during the Konoha Crush, but does not try to reform Gaara; instead, he tells him that Jinchūriki are not alone. 81
