Background / History

Dai Mubai is the Star Luo Empire’s third prince and a son of Emperor Dai Linfeng and the reigning empress. He and First Prince Dai Weisi share the same mother, whose brother is Nether Duke Zhu Tianlie. Mubai is six years younger than Weisi and three years older than Fourth Prince Dai Jinge 1 21 22 30.

His engagement to Zhu Zhuqing placed him in a succession contest against Dai Weisi and Zhu Zhuyun. Fearing his older brother and wanting to enjoy whatever time he believed remained, Mubai fled Star Luo City for the Heaven Dou Empire and joined Shrek Academy, leaving Zhu Zhuqing behind 1.

Following his departure, the imperial family dissolved the engagement and betrothed Zhu Zhuqing to Dai Jinge instead. This transferred Mubai’s obligation to fight the deadly succession duel to his younger brother. Neither family informed Mubai of the change; he learned about it three years later through Flender 1 21 27.

Appearance

• Blond hair and azure double pupils: Features he shares with Dai Jinge, immediately prompting the Shrek group to suspect a family connection 22.
• Strong resemblance to Dai Jinge: Despite being three years older, Mubai appears less mature than his rapidly developed younger brother at their reunion 22.

Personality

Mubai prioritizes personal freedom and pleasure over his original succession obligations. His fear of Dai Weisi drives him to flee, and Zhu Zhuqing regards him as a womanizer. When he learns that the deadly contest no longer concerns him, he celebrates rather than regretting the broken engagement, reasoning that his princely status will ensure he never lacks female company 1 2 21.

He nevertheless tries to defend his companions. After Dai Jinge severely injures Tang San and Xiao Wu, Mubai invokes his authority as an elder brother and threatens to discipline him. That bravado collapses under Jinge’s death threat, but Mubai later intervenes again when Zhao Wuji is being overwhelmed 23 24.

Release from the Succession Contest

Three years after Mubai’s flight, Dai Jinge asks Flender to tell him that he has long been exempt from the life-or-death duel. Mubai correctly deduces that Zhu Zhuqing has been reassigned to his fourth brother. Overjoyed at escaping a confrontation with Dai Weisi, he leaves for Suotuo City to celebrate 19 21.

Restaurant Confrontation

Mubai leads the Shrek students against Ye Zhiqiu during a clash with Canghui Academy. Their defeat is interrupted by Zhao Wuji, who knocks the teacher away. Dai Jinge observes the encounter from upstairs 21.

When Jinge joins the group, Mubai initially struggles to recognize him. Jinge reveals their relationship, thanks Mubai for abandoning Zhu Zhuqing, and announces his intention to defeat Dai Weisi and become emperor. He promises not to kill Mubai or cripple his Soul Power, instead offering him a future chance to serve 22.

After Tang San and Xiao Wu are badly injured, Mubai challenges Jinge but retreats under threat. His second attempt to intervene—during Jinge’s battle with Zhao Wuji—ends when White Tiger Sky Roar incapacitates him with a spiritual attack 23 24.

Injury and Xiao Wu’s Abduction

Oscar cares for the badly injured Mubai while the group recuperates. Mubai has recovered only a little strength when Tang San rushes into his room begging for help following Xiao Wu’s abduction. Her coerced sacrifice occurs before assistance can arrive; Dai Jinge subsequently leaves without harming the remaining companions 25 26.

Reunion at Blue Tyrant Academy

Four months after Dai Jinge secures recognition as crown prince, Mubai arrives at Blue Tyrant Academy with the Shrek group. They face Jinge and Zhu Zhuqing with anger, resentment, and surprise. Zhu Zhuqing notices that Mubai’s cultivation is now weaker than hers 30.

The same chapter reveals that Dai Weisi had supported freeing Mubai from his engagement because they shared a mother. Weisi comes to regret that decision after the replacement pairing of Dai Jinge and Zhu Zhuqing costs him the succession 30.
