Evan and several warriors followed Christina toward the front. Psyker Power was spilling out ahead of them, and every instrument had failed. They had no idea what was happening.
At the defensive line, the enemy hurled themselves at the Adeptus Mechanicus positions as though pumped full of stimulants. The Tech-Priest on duty today had truly drawn the short straw. His gun barrels were smoking, but he dared not stop firing to let them cool.
"Emergency call! Defensive line QH103-132 is in critical danger! There are too many enemies! Our weapons are severely overloaded! Estimated time until the line falls: 231 seconds! Requesting immediate support!"
Only endless electronic static answered him.
Damn it, I'm not dying here with the rest of you.
The Adeptus Mechanicus cared only about data. Fighting spirit? Indomitable resolve? To hell with that. None of it could conjure up another round of ammunition.
The fighting continued for several more minutes. The enemy's numbers showed no sign of declining; if anything, they seemed to be increasing. Enemies scrambled through the narrow fissure, relentlessly assaulting the Mechanicus positions.
"Beep! Beep! Beep! Level-one ammunition alert! Ammunition reserves below 20%!" A warning flashed scarlet before the Tech-Priest's eyes.
I can't wait any longer. If I do, I won't make it back.
"Log entry: shit, forget the log! Run!"
The Tech-Priest took out a red card and inserted it into the massive Skitarius who had been fighting beside him.
The Skitarius entered berserk mode and bared everything. His breastplate blasted off, exposing the enormous stockpile of missiles concealed inside.
Countless missiles launched at once. Then the Skitarius drew a great blade and charged the enemies scattered by the explosions.
By then, the Tech-Priest had almost reached the next defensive line.
Faster, faster! I'm almost at the next line!
The corridor he had
