The wall of ice was blasted apart bit by bit by psychic shockwaves. Garcia decided he had stalled long enough and turned to leave. If he could not defeat this enemy immediately, he would retreat.

Cancero had no intention of letting his formidable opponent have his way. You think you can come and go as you please? Have a little respect for me, will you?

Metal condensed into fine needles. The rain of glittering silver needles streaked through the dark cavern like an unexpected meteor shower, burying itself deep in the strange blocks of ice the enemy had conjured.

Garcia slowed, but he was indeed almost at the surface.

At the cave entrance on the surface, Lakshen watched the reinforcements from the Third Company arrive, hauling large quantities of poison gas grenades.

We can't just throw them straight in. We might hit our own men.

While he hesitated, a band of Aeldari suddenly leaped out of the entrance and caught them off guard.

"Enemy attack! At the entrance!"

There was no time to think. They threw whatever they had, tossing masses of poison gas grenades into the cave.

These Aeldari moved more nimbly than the sentries they had encountered outside earlier. Most of the Third Company's warriors had to strain just to follow their movements.

Both sides exchanged fire. The enemy seemed intent on seizing the entire entrance area and charged straight at Lakshen, while several others broke off toward where they had originally parked their ship.

"Slay every alien! Liberate the galaxy!" Lakshen swung his Warblade to meet an enemy leaping toward him. This Aeldari seemed more like a living creature to Lakshen, at least, rather than a rat gnawing corpses in a sewer.

The Monomolecular Blade flashed several times in a single second. Alarms blared through Lakshen's Power
