Evan stepped into the Webway, mildly surprised. Unlike an ordinary Webway passage, there was no boundless white light ahead that left you wondering how long you would have to walk before reaching the exit. Instead, there was a chamber built from black metal.

The outer chamber of a Tesseract Labyrinth.

A museum built in an abandoned subway tunnel? Something like that. The passage on the opposite side was probably blocked too. Who knew what godforsaken place this was, for the Imperium to have missed it all these years?

Evan walked slowly forward. This was his first time entering the Webway—or rather, the first time for everyone present.

Arnos stood at the entrance to the "exhibition hall" and told Evan, "This is a prison, but we don't know what's imprisoned inside."

Inside the exhibition hall, there was only one "prison," or perhaps a generator.

Evan recognized it as one of the most powerful weapons still in existence.

A weapon fashioned from a C'tan Shard had been permanently sealed here, removing its terrifying destructive power from the galaxy.

The C'tan were said to be the oldest species in existence. Some even said they had existed since the universe first came into being.

They were purely physical beings whose usual food was planets. They sucked on planets whenever they felt like it, which made fragments of their bodies extraordinarily powerful "batteries." (They were insulated from the Warp, you know.)

As mentioned before, an ancient species that had once dominated the galaxy lay dormant: the Necrons, a race that had ascended into machines.

Long, long ago, they had still been fragile living beings, because their planet was filled with extremely unstable radiation.

In a sense, this was because a C'tan had been sprawled across their "sun," feeding on it.
