Over nine months had passed since the Apocalypse descended. The dock was small, and with water vapor hanging thick in the mist that shrouded it year-round, most of it had long since rusted.
Filth littered the ground, along with a few skeletal remains.
Everything about the place spoke of desolation and decay.
The dock had long been abandoned. A bleak, cold wind swept in from Poyang Lake, carrying mist and a bone-piercing chill.
"There are actually boats here?"
Zhu Qing looked at the boats tied to the shore and asked in confusion, "Didn't the survivors take all these boats?"
"Did they have fuel to run them?" Captain Hui replied dryly beside him. "Boats aren't like cars. A few dozen liters will fill a car, but for a boat, even the bare minimum is measured in hundreds."
"And fuel is a huge problem if you're hiding from Anomalies on Poyang Lake."
"Life finds a way. So do Sequence Adepts."
"All you need is a propeller."
As Chu Sheng spoke, he felt the fish tail tucked into his pocket.
"You actually said something like that?!" An Xi looked at Chu Sheng in disbelief.
Hearing words like "life finds a way" come out of Chu Sheng's mouth felt strangely jarring.
Chu Sheng glanced at An Xi. "Stereotyping someone can be fatal. Once you've formed a stereotype of me, I can use it to hurt you."
"Young lady, be a little less prejudiced against me. I've changed a lot."
"Heh." An Xi curled her lip in a mocking smile.
She would sooner believe pigs could climb trees than believe Chu Sheng was a good person.
The group made a circuit of the dock. Apart from rusty metal, there was nothing here but ruin.
