The thug with the tattooed arms had no idea Chu Sheng had already put him on his death list.
"I returned the bike, so I should be fine now, right?" Hiding beneath the waterproof tarp he had rigged up, the thug took a compressed biscuit from his backpack and started eating.
But his expression showed he was still worried about Chu Sheng.
When Chu Sheng had smiled at him yesterday, he had felt his hair stand on end.
That instinct had helped him avoid several near-fatal disasters during the apocalypse.
Before the apocalypse, that same instinct had also saved him from a stint in prison.
He trusted his instincts.
Eating his compressed biscuit alone, he felt deeply uneasy. Now he regretted it-regretted stealing Chu Sheng's bicycle.
The tattooed thug hiding in his tent never noticed that the noise around him had died away.
When the people gathered in twos and threes nearby saw Chu Sheng carrying a Butcher Knife, some immediately grabbed weapons to defend themselves. Those cooking stopped what they were doing, and everyone watched Chu Sheng approach the thug's tent.
Chu Sheng ignored their stares. He strolled up to the tent as casually as if he were walking through his own courtyard, then ducked inside under everyone's gaze.
Moments later, Chu Sheng tossed the tattooed thug's corpse out of the tent like a dead dog.
Chu Sheng did not come out right away. Instead, he sat inside the tent and took stock of the thug's supplies.
The tent was small, with just enough room for one person to sleep. Aside from some weeds spread across the ground, there was only a backpack inside.
He opened the backpack and found three or four compressed biscuits, along with a kitchen knife, a small pot for cooking instant noodles, and some pale yellow liquid in a mineral water bottle.
"Fucking broke bastard!"
Chu Sheng searched the entire tent, but that backpack was all he found.
Having little food was one thing. They would reach the next Supply Point soon anyway.
But he barely had any other supplies either!
Chu Sheng could hardly imagine how this guy had survived the apocalypse.
No useful items, no medicine.
He had thought his own supplies were sparse, food aside, but this guy had even less!
The only things worth anything were the gasoline in the mineral water bottle and those few compressed biscuits.
Chu Sheng packed everything back inside, then took down the tent. Not a single person tried to stop him.
With the backpack on his back, Chu Sheng glanced at the people around him and gave them a friendly smile. Then he picked up the corpse from the ground and walked away.
Trash belonged somewhere far away.
Chu Sheng had high moral standards, after all.
The little incident did not delay the convoy's journey. At around nine thirty, the convoy set off again.
This time, however, Chu Sheng rode his bicycle, with both backpacks tied to the rear rack.
As for the father and son he had killed yesterday and this tattooed thug, no one in the convoy discussed them. Such things were neither particularly common nor rare in the convoy, and everyone had long since grown used to them.
Most people just wanted to survive, following the convoy and taking each day as it came. As long as it did not involve them, they generally acted as if nothing had happened.
At three in the afternoon, rows of houses appeared ahead of the convoy, and the lead vehicle came to a stop.
Half a year into the apocalypse, the Small Town already looked dilapidated.
From a distance, clumps of withered yellow weeds could be seen sprouting from gaps between the bricks, while dark red stains covered the concrete road.
A few dust-covered vehicles still sat on the road, and portions of exposed white bones could just be made out inside the houses.
It was a scene of utter decay.
Brother Hui stepped out of the vehicle, frowning repeatedly as he surveyed the Small Town before him.
The vehicles behind him stopped as well. Red-haired Xiao Qing, the sleazy old man, and the teenage girl gathered around him.
Xiao Qing asked bluntly, "Brother Hui, what's wrong?"
"We've reached the Supply Point ahead of schedule!"
"This Small Town is the Supply Point I told you about, the one without any anomalies."
All three Sequence Adepts gathered around him frowned at his words.
The sleazy old man sighed, took two cherry tomatoes from his pocket, and handed them to red-haired Xiao Qing and the girl. "Well, Zhu Qing, An Xi, you two be careful."
"All I can grow right now are these tomatoes that stop bleeding. You can't count on the captain or me for anything else."
An Xi took the cherry tomato and held it in her mouth. "I know. This time will probably be dangerous."
Zhu Qing likewise held his cherry tomato in his mouth so he could eat it at any moment. "Old Man Li, don't worry. With me here, no anomaly stands a chance!"
Brother Hui frowned at that. "Xiao Qing, don't get too cocky. That can get you hurt."
"Yeah, yeah, I know!" Zhu Qing nodded, but he clearly had not taken it to heart.
As the four of them gathered together, the other survivors behind them stayed put.
Experience had taught them time and again that they stood a better chance of surviving supply runs if they followed the Sequence Adepts.
Even when they were not sure whether there were any anomalies inside.
Chu Sheng watched the Sequence Adepts confer from a distance, silently gripping his Butcher Knife.
He was prepared to encounter an anomaly the moment he went in.
Even now, he still did not know how to earn survival points.
Simply staying alive clearly did not earn him survival points, and neither did killing people.
After all, he had killed three people without gaining a single survival point.
He suspected he would most likely have to get them from anomalies.
Still, he could understand that. If survival points were that easy to obtain, the system might as well make him invincible outright.
Chu Sheng straddled his bicycle with one foot on the ground, watching the Sequence Adepts ahead. As soon as they moved, he would follow close behind.
Before long, under his watchful gaze, red-haired Zhu Qing spoke indistinctly, as though he had something in his mouth. "I'm going in first! An Xi, follow me!"
As he spoke, his body swelled before everyone's eyes. In the blink of an eye, he became a three-meter-tall giant and raced toward the Small Town.
Behind him followed a teenage girl in black cargo pants and a black tactical vest, carrying a long spear.
The two moved quickly, covering more than twenty meters in the blink of an eye.
Once they moved, the rest of the survivors surged forward in a swarm.
"Charge!"
"Food! Water! I'm starving!!!"
Most people chased the two Sequence Adepts on foot, while a few used cars or motorcycles.
The instant they moved, Chu Sheng started pedaling, charging at the front alongside the vehicles.
The Small Town was small, with most of its buildings lining both sides of the concrete road.
His bicycle was still a little slower. By the time he rode into the Small Town, An Xi and Zhu Qing had already found a supermarket and charged inside.
Chu Sheng did not join them. Instead, he stopped his bicycle outside a small shop and walked in.
