The world he saw was so scarlet. Couldn't they show him a little more understanding?
Chu Sheng couldn't understand it.
Zhou Qi and Wei Haoran kept watching Chu Sheng, glancing his way every now and then even as they prepared their trading supplies.
They seemed terrified that this handsome young man with white hair and scarlet eyes, who nevertheless looked rather honest, might suddenly lash out.
Chu Sheng was preparing his supplies too, but all he had were the seventeen jin of Little Supernatural Cherry Tomatoes he had previously traded for with Old Man Li.
He had exchanged three bottles of liquor for them but had never asked Old Man Li to hand them over. After all, they lost their effects within two or three days, so he might as well wait until he needed them before having them picked.
Old Man Li was drunk now, but his driver was still around. Chu Sheng only had to say a few words before the driver obediently handed over his Little Supernatural Cherry Tomatoes.
An Xi and Zhu Qing each collected a few jin of Little Supernatural Cherry Tomatoes from the driver as well.
The driver handed those over without any fuss too.
Apparently, Old Man Li had given him instructions beforehand.
By the time everything was ready, plenty of little stalls had appeared where the two convoys met.
The survivors had set them up.
Chu Sheng browsed among them. Everyone there seemed a little afraid when they saw him, as though they feared he would rob them by force.
"Has my reputation gotten that bad?!" Chu Sheng frowned at the survivors scrambling out of his way and couldn't help complaining.
"You only just realized?" Holding the sinister-looking Black Jade Bone Spear, An Xi complained too. "If I weren't a supernatural adept, I'd want to stay as far away from you as possible."
"Why? I think I'm pretty friendly." Chu Sheng rubbed his chin, seemingly searching his memories.
"I've never gone out of my way to rob anyone, and I haven't slaughtered innocent people in the convoy. Someone even bumped into me, and I didn't kill him."
"You call that friendly?!"
An Xi's eyes widened as she stared at him in disbelief. "So you actually wanted to kill the person who bumped into you?!"
"No, I didn't." Chu Sheng shook his head. "He only bumped into me by accident. Why would I need to kill him?"
"It's not like I'm some homicidal maniac."
"The people I kill are either plotting against me or getting in the way of my survival. My conscience is clear, that's what matters."
Chu Sheng defended himself.
Some distance away, Li Feifei shuddered as she overheard his conversation with An Xi.
She was the other convoy's guide. Her Sequence was Wind Whisper, and the wind brought her information.
That was also why she had been able to become their guide.
Since the wind could bring her information, it could naturally eavesdrop on conversations too.
At first, the breeze had told her that a devil lived inside Chu Sheng's heart. Figuring there was nothing to lose by taking a precaution, she had specifically warned the Sequence Adepts in her convoy.
But she hadn't understood why it said a devil lived inside his heart. Now that she had heard what he said, Li Feifei understood.
As he wandered among the stalls with An Xi, Chu Sheng also pondered whether he should find himself a follower or two.
People like Old Man Li and the others, who could run errands for him and such.
In the end, however, he abandoned the idea. Perhaps he would get some in the future, but definitely not now.
He couldn't trust anyone.
Especially someone sharing a vehicle with him!
An Xi's presence last time had been an exception. If he could help it, he didn't want anyone getting into his vehicle.
In the apocalypse, people's loyalties were fickle. He couldn't guarantee that someone wouldn't stab him while he was asleep or weakened.
Chu Sheng shook his head as he thought it over. He would probably only start looking for followers once he no longer had to fear ambushes from ordinary people.
For now, being alone was fine. If he really needed help, he could ask An Xi or Zhu Qing.
Compared with ordinary survivors, Sequence Adepts understood his abilities and his value better, which made them a little more reassuring.
Just then, An Xi's voice reached his ears. "What are you thinking about? You're standing there like a block of wood."
"Nothing." Chu Sheng shook his head and said, "These survivors don't have anything good. Let's see what their supernatural adepts have instead."
"Sure." An Xi nodded.
"I hope they have something good. Ideally, they'll offer a few sacrificial items for trade."
"Heh."
"Are you mocking me?!" An Xi knitted her brows and gave him a suspicious look.
As they spoke, the two headed toward the other convoy's Sequence Adepts.
Meanwhile, Wei Haoran took out a plastic sheet, spread it on the ground, and laid out seven or eight different objects.
Beside him, Zhou Qi laid out a large pile of unsharpened weapons.
Both kept glancing at Chu Sheng out of the corners of their eyes, worried that he might cause trouble.
Across from them, Zhu Qing had also laid out some goods on the ground, though most of his were various foods and dried provisions.
There were eight Sequence Adepts present, but only those three had set out goods. Their stalls also drew the most survivors.
Everyone wanted to see what the Sequence Adepts would offer for trade. This was also the closest they ever got to the Sequence Adepts.
With Li Qian and Li Ling in tow, Zhou Dun only gave Zhu Qing's stall a quick look before turning his attention to Wei Haoran's.
His gaze flickered as he studied the "parts" he couldn't identify, which seemed to have been cut from all kinds of eerie creatures.
He hadn't forgotten what the captain had told him.
Two supernatural materials could get him one sacrificial item!
For ordinary people, food was the foundation of survival in the apocalypse, supplies were their reserves, sacrificial items gave them the confidence to survive, and a Transcendent Sequence was the foundation of that confidence itself.
They weren't short on food or supplies for the moment, while a Transcendent Sequence was completely out of reach.
That made a sacrificial item the only source of confidence they could obtain!
Zhou Dun made up his mind. No matter what, he had to obtain two supernatural materials this time and get himself a sacrificial item first. After that, perhaps he could acquire more supernatural materials from eerie creatures.
He had never feared fighting eerie creatures, but previously, he had been unable to inflict much damage on them at all.
If he had a sacrificial item, he would dare to go looking for eerie creatures himself!
It was all so he could survive better and protect his two younger sisters!
Zhou Dun forced down the burning eagerness in his gaze, steadied his emotions, and walked up with the two young women behind him.
"May I ask what you're trading these things for?" Zhou Dun asked, keeping his voice as calm as possible.
Wei Haoran gave him a puzzled look.
He had displayed these supernatural materials and drawn plenty of spectators, but not a single person had asked about the price.
Now that a survivor had come over to ask, he felt rather vindicated.
"You think these things are useful too?"
Before Zhou Dun could answer, he continued excitedly, "Brother! Great minds think alike!"
"Feifei and Uncle Zhou said there was no point bringing these things along, that they just took up space! But I believe they'll be useful someday!" Wei Haoran clenched his fists, his face flushed.
"According to the apocalypse novels I've read, we'll definitely be able to forge supernatural divine weapons from these things in the future!"
"That's how it works in all the novels!"
"Since we've hit it off, I'll give you a buy-one-get-one-free deal!" As he spoke, he glanced at the large mineral water bottles the two young women behind Zhou Dun were holding.
"You're trading gasoline? Perfect, I need that! Twenty liters! No! Ten liters! Brother, just take whichever one you like!"
Zhou Dun: "."
