You're just a Sacrificial Item. Why do you keep remembering your owner's absurd antics from before the apocalypse?
Zhu Qing stood there, momentarily at a loss. He wanted to throw the thing away, but remembering that he had spent two fusion uses to obtain it, then two supernatural materials to upgrade it, made his heart ache.
Rounding up, that was four whole supernatural materials!
And all he had gotten was this thing!
What he found most unbearable was that An Xi had seen this Sacrificial Item's price.
Zhu Qing felt as though countless people were pointing and whispering behind his back.
After Zhu Qing took the Black Blade Gloves, Chu Sheng left immediately. For now, he would leave the place to Zhu Qing and let him calm down.
Although he didn't consider himself a particularly decent person, putting himself in Zhu Qing's shoes, he figured he would kill whoever had made him something like this.
With that thought in mind, Chu Sheng kept his distance from Zhu Qing. At least until Zhu Qing calmed down, he had no intention of showing his face around him.
Meanwhile, over in Li Feifei's convoy...
Three Sequence Adepts sat inside a Wuling Divine Car.
"Feifei, you were right. That white-haired, red-eyed guy really is a piece of work," Zhou Qi said with a sigh.
"But the other people in their convoy seem pretty decent."
Wei Haoran nodded beside him, his face full of agreement. "Exactly. That guy actually withheld crucial information!"
Li Feifei said nothing, though her expression shifted slightly. Zhou Qi continued, "Still, at least we learned a lesson without it costing us anything. If we run into something like this again, we'd better ask for all the details. If we're determined to buy it, we need to investigate it thoroughly first!"
Wei Haoran grumbled, "Who could have guessed a Supernatural Fruit would have a time limit?"
"Shouldn't this stuff keep working until it rots?!"
As the two of them talked, Li Feifei suddenly spoke. "We took a huge loss!"
"Huh?!" At her words, Zhou Qi and Wei Haoran's spirits sank.
"What happened?"
"They seem to have figured out how to use supernatural materials. We sold ours too cheaply."
"What?!" Wei Haoran's jaw dropped, his eyes wide with disbelief.
"So all my earlier ideas were right?!"
"Yes." Li Feifei nodded. "Gentle Breeze overheard their conversation. That white-haired guy seems to be the one who knows how."
"And the Anomalies behind us have caught up."
Li Feifei's expression grew grave.
"We can't stay here any longer. We need to leave immediately!"
"But... those supernatural materials..."
Wei Haoran wanted to say more, but Zhou Qi cut him off. "Forget about that for now. Let's get out of here first."
"Well... all right." Wei Haoran looked dejected, but he didn't object.
Li Feifei's Sequence was called Wind Whisper. Within a certain range of her, the wind served as her eyes and ears.
This ability was powerful, far more effective than the Eight Trigrams Sequence when it came to guiding the way.
That was why they could flee with more than two hundred people despite having only three Sequence Adepts, one of whom was a guide.
Once something entered Li Feifei's range, no matter what it was, it couldn't escape her perception as long as the wind brushed past it.
At Li Feifei's warning, their convoy quickly got ready.
Meanwhile, Li Feifei went to find Captain Hui, who was huddled in his vehicle, cursing himself.
Seeing Li Feifei, Captain Hui immediately composed himself. He cleared his throat twice and asked, "Captain Li, what can I do for you?"
Li Feifei got straight to the point. Taking a golden Trading Card from her pocket, she said, "This is a Sacrificial Item I obtained earlier. There are ten Trading Cards like this in total."
"We've traded with other convoys a few times before, and I gave two of the Trading Cards to two fairly decent convoys."
"As long as the Trading Cards are within a hundred kilometers of each other, they can sense the direction of the others."
She paused, then continued, "I'm giving this Trading Card to you. If you encounter a convoy the Trading Card detects, you can try making contact with them, Captain Hui."
"These are all convoys I think fairly highly of. Of course, you don't need to put too much stock in that, Captain Hui. This is the apocalypse, after all. Anything can happen. If you ever sense three convoys moving together in the same spot, that'll be ours. I'll only be giving away seven of these Trading Cards."
Captain Hui took the Trading Card and nodded solemnly. Although he had his own ability to assess other convoys, and could even pinpoint Li Feifei's convoy directly, he accepted it anyway.
Whatever else it might be, it was a gesture of goodwill from Li Feifei.
Seeing Captain Hui accept the Trading Card, Li Feifei felt a weight lift from her heart.
As long as he accepts it. We have to trade for the method of using supernatural materials!
If not this time, then next time!
What she hadn't mentioned was that while the Trading Cards she gave away could sense one another within a certain range, as the owner of this Sacrificial Item, she could pinpoint the locations of the Trading Cards she had handed out.
"Captain Hui, that's all for now. We're getting ready to leave. You should leave soon too."
"I've sensed the Anomalies approaching."
With that, Li Feifei got out of the vehicle and ran back to her convoy.
Captain Hui's expression shifted, and his right hand kept moving through divination gestures.
A dozen or so seconds later, his expression grew more solemn. He started the vehicle and shouted outside.
"Get ready to leave as fast as you can!"
In fact, he didn't need to shout. Many people had already realized something was wrong when they saw the survivors in Li Feifei's convoy hurriedly packing their things.
Anyone who had survived this long in the apocalypse was no fool. The fools were already dead!
Running the moment things looked bad was standard practice.
When Captain Hui's driver heard his shout, he was also calling to the people around him, "Everyone, get ready to pull out!"
After shouting, he headed straight for Captain Hui's vehicle. Seeing him, Captain Hui deftly climbed over into the passenger seat.
Not far away, Chu Sheng was lying low. Seeing this, he ran straight for his pickup truck.
Zhu Qing was already gone, and the rotten wood on the ground had vanished too.
Chu Sheng climbed straight into the truck, and the engine roared to life.
Both convoys finished their preparations at remarkable speed.
From the moment Li Feifei sensed the Anomalies approaching through her conversation with Captain Hui, no more than two minutes had passed.
Both convoys were already ready to go.
Captain Hui sat in the passenger seat, his right hand constantly working through divination gestures as he called out one direction after another.
"Turn left in fifty meters, then go straight for seven hundred meters. Turn right at the fork..."
The driver was long accustomed to his instructions and set off with practiced ease.
Compared to him, Li Feifei had a much easier time.
Li Feifei sat in the passenger seat. Although all the windows of her vehicle were closed, the tips of her hair stirred without any wind.
"Just keep driving east."
The two convoys left the service area together, but headed in opposite directions: one west, the other east.
Captain Hui was still performing his divinations.
When leading the convoy, he never divined the locations of the Anomalies. He only divined which route would pose the least danger to the convoy and offer the greatest gains.
That was the difference between Eight Trigrams and Wind Whisper.
Every guide's Sequence had an entirely different effect, and an entirely different way of guiding others.
The authorities had previously announced that there was a guide in the military whose Sequence was Train.
He would take some people and some Sequence Adepts with him, driving a train through the apocalypse. Supposedly, the train would never stop until the Apocalypse Era ended!
[PS: I have something to do tonight, so I'm posting the update early.]
