The black cat retreated in defeat, while Chu Sheng stood where he was, overjoyed at the sight of it with only three legs left.

That slash had severed the black cat's right front paw clean off!

Yet ordinary people couldn't hurt eerie creatures.

Countless people had reached that conclusion.

Chu Sheng had personally seen people attack eerie creatures with machetes and firearms before, but without exception, none of it had worked.

At most, the eerie creatures would temporarily retreat.

But today, he had cut off one of the black cat's front paws!

Upgraded weapons could hurt eerie creatures!

Yet that wasn't what excited him most. It was the ding he had heard.

[Severed the Eerie Cat's front paw. Survival Points +1,000]

He had been right all along. Survival points came from eerie creatures!

There was no longer any fear in Chu Sheng's eyes as he looked at the black cat. In its place was naked desire.

The Eerie Cat seemed unable to understand why this ordinary person could hurt it. It kept leaping back and forth across the balcony, wary of him.

With one front paw missing, it was no longer as fast as before. No blood flowed from the severed stump; instead, wisps of black smoke seeped out.

"Mreeow!!"

Seeing the look in Chu Sheng's eyes, the Eerie Cat let out a shrill cry, pushed off with its hind legs, and lunged at him.

Though it didn't know why this ordinary person could hurt it, the Eerie Cat decided to pounce on him and kill him outright.

Chu Sheng's eyes lit up. At first, he had wanted the black cat to leave as quickly as possible, but now he didn't dare attack first, afraid he would scare it away.

Missing a front paw, the black cat's pounce wasn't as fast as before. Chu Sheng could just barely track its movement, and he instantly swung the butcher knife in his hand at it.

Mockery appeared in the Eerie Cat's eyes again. Its body traced an unnatural arc through the air, actually dodging Chu Sheng's slash as it shot toward his neck without slowing down.

But just then, a ruthless glint flashed in Chu Sheng's eyes.

His left hand, which he had already positioned at his waist, moved instantly. He drew a kitchen knife from a gap in the backpack behind him and slashed at the Eerie Cat with lightning speed.

As he drew the knife, a white glow flashed across it.

Chu Sheng had spent 100 survival points to upgrade the kitchen knife.

The Eerie Cat hadn't expected Chu Sheng to have another trick up his sleeve. By the time it saw the kitchen knife, it was too late.

The kitchen knife sliced the black cat in half at the waist as easily as cutting a radish, leaving only a head and one front paw on its upper half.

Its lower half fell to the ground intact.

The first strike landed, and the second followed immediately.

The instant the Eerie Cat's upper half hit the ground, a butcher knife plunged straight down through its head, pinning it firmly to the floor.

Even then, the Eerie Cat kept struggling.

Its lower half lay motionless, while the remaining front paw on its upper half kept clawing toward Chu Sheng as though trying to tear him apart.

Shrill yowls continued pouring from its mouth.

"That still didn't kill it?!" Chu Sheng stared at the Eerie Cat with wide eyes, panting heavily.

Though he hadn't exerted himself much, he had unconsciously held his breath during the confrontation with the Eerie Cat, leaving him short of air.

Looking at the still-struggling Eerie Cat, Chu Sheng brought the kitchen knife in his left hand straight down on the black cat's left front paw.

The blade fell, and the Eerie Cat screamed again. Its entire upper half stopped moving.

If Chu Sheng hadn't still been able to see the hatred in its eyes, he would have thought it was dead.

"That still didn't kill it? Are these eerie creatures really that tough?" For a moment, Chu Sheng was at a loss.

He had already sliced it in half, cut off both front paws, and pierced its head.

How else could he kill it?

As he pondered this, his gaze met the Eerie Cat's crimson eyes.

"..."

A minute later, the Eerie Cat no longer moved.

"These eyeballs are good stuff. I'd better keep them." Chu Sheng found a glass jar in the room and put the Eerie Cat's eyes inside.

He had only been trying something at random. He hadn't expected gouging out its eyes to actually kill the Eerie Cat.

He didn't leave the claws on any of the Eerie Cat's four paws behind, either.

Perhaps because he had gouged out its eyes, the black cat turned into black smoke within a single minute and dissipated into the air.

All Chu Sheng had left were a pair of eyeballs and eighteen sharp claws.

Once he had taken care of everything, Chu Sheng copied what those people had done earlier, crouching on the balcony to sneak a look below.

The crimson coffin in the street had already toppled to one side and lay in pieces.

The eerie creature inside the coffin was a zombie.

Out on the road, a three-meter-tall giant was swinging a coffin board over and over, while the zombie in front of him bared its teeth and tried to get close.

But every time it approached, the coffin board sent it flying.

The girl stood off to one side with her spear, occasionally attacking the zombie. Pale golden light flowed along the spear, making it look anything but ordinary.

Yet her attacks left no injuries on the zombie. Every time the spear struck it, there was a clang of metal against metal.

"That's terrifying!" Hiding on the second-floor balcony, Chu Sheng couldn't help marveling.

Before the Eerie Cat killed those people, he had already heard Zhu Qing's and An Xi's voices downstairs.

Along with them had come the sounds of the coffin breaking and the ensuing fight.

Now that he saw them actually fighting, the sense that killing the Eerie Cat had made him stronger vanished at once.

Now that was a real eerie creature!

Compared to this zombie, the Eerie Cat was nothing but a little chick.

Yet even that little chick had nearly killed him!

If the Eerie Cat hadn't willingly let him slash at one of its paws, he would already be dead.

After watching from the balcony for ten seconds or so and seeing that the zombie was occupied, Chu Sheng stopped dwelling on it and ran straight downstairs.

He needed to sneak away now. If anything else went wrong, he would be in serious trouble.

He couldn't beat any eerie creature right now. The Eerie Cat had been a fluke, not something he could count on!

When he reached the first floor, Chu Sheng saw the bottles of liquor he had left on the checkout counter earlier, when he backed away at the sight of the coffin.

He pushed down the backpack against his chest a little and stuffed the liquor inside. After sneaking a glance at the battle on the road, he sprinted to his bicycle as fast as he could and pedaled desperately out of the Small Town.

Although his survival points came from eerie creatures, he had absolutely no intention of taking on that zombie.

Hadn't he seen how the girl's spear hit the zombie as though it were striking a steel plate?

Though he didn't know what the pale golden light on the spear was, he figured it was the girl's sequence ability. Even a spear imbued with a sequence ability couldn't penetrate its defenses.

How many lives would he need to dare take that thing on?

He didn't even follow the road as he fled. Instead, he steered his bicycle around the houses and pedaled along behind them.

He glanced back from time to time. Only after seeing that no eerie creatures were chasing him did Chu Sheng feel safe enough to put everything into his escape.

Five minutes later, Chu Sheng finally caught sight of the convoy again.

When everyone headed into the Small Town earlier, the convoy had moved farther away to keep any eerie creatures pursuing them from inside the Small Town from setting their sights on it.
