| Resurrected Shadow General — 80% strength restored | 253 | Awakens through Norman’s Ratso Mask. Tony judges his demonstrated strength comparable to Zarathos and estimates that full restoration could put him alongside Hela and Doctor Doom. |

| Supreme Tier — recently entered | 322 | Identified among the Generals who have only recently entered the tier. Their ability to endure attacks does not make them equals of experienced Supreme fighters such as Thanos. |
Background / History
Ratso returns after Norman Osborn completes Tony’s territorial trial and receives the Ratso Mask. Norman hesitates for half an hour before wearing it, allowing the mask to fuse with him and awaken Ratso. The resurrected General immediately travels through the floor to Tony’s villa and kneels before him 253.
Ratso describes the result as a complete merger: he and Norman are now one, but Ratso’s consciousness is dominant. He subsequently admits that he has already devoured his host, making separate coexistence impossible. Other Shadow Generals can preserve their hosts’ consciousnesses if Tony orders them to do so; Ratso later confirms that he alone consumed his host, while the others coexist with theirs 253 279.
Tony tests Ratso over the ocean. After roughly a thousand exchanges, Ratso has failed to touch even Tony’s clothing, despite attacking with everything he has. The experience strengthens his devotion to Tony and establishes the Shadow Kingdom—not ordinary movement speed—as the source of his seemingly untraceable attacks 253 254.
Appearance
- Awakens in Norman’s demon-transformed body, with eyes described as brimming with savagery and madness 253.
- His first return is accompanied by a shrill cackle; he later kneels before Tony with an intensely fervent gaze 253.
Personality
Ratso is fiercely deferential to Tony, addressing him as “my king” or “Sovereign” and promptly obeying his orders. That loyalty can override his judgment: he continues fighting four powerful opponents because Tony ordered him to kill Dormammu, even though he would otherwise have retreated 253 261 262.
Against an opponent he can outmaneuver, Ratso is mocking and vindictive. Dormammu’s decision to call him an “ant” provokes an immediate attack, after which Ratso openly enjoys humiliating him. His confidence collapses when Zarathos’s chains defeat his escape route, and he readily begs Tony for rescue 260 261 262 263.
His dedication is accompanied by a strong need for recognition. During the empire’s expansion, he envies Mephisto’s demon legion, Loki’s closeness to Tony, Skeleton Billy’s reward, and Hyperion’s easy access to praise. He eventually learns to ask for compensation directly, but remains disappointed when the reward is shared rather than uniquely his 307 312.
Ratso is also capable of practical caution. He waits for a safe opening against Thanos instead of charging into combat, and later proposes abandoning already-evacuated territory when the Generals face opponents beyond their capabilities 289 322.
Abilities & Skills
Shadow Kingdom Teleportation
Ratso’s affinity with the Shadow Kingdom allows him to leave ordinary space and reappear elsewhere during combat 254.
- Untraceable movement: His transitions leave no ordinary movement trail; even Tony initially cannot follow them 253 254.
- Attack and evasion: Repeatedly appears beside Dormammu, strikes him, and withdraws before his counterattacks connect 261.
- Shadow access: Emerges from floors and travels through shadow gates 253 260 278.
- Limit: Zarathos’s Magic Chains follow him into the Shadow Kingdom, allowing several opponents to pull him back into the battlefield 262.
Physical Combat
Ratso is primarily a warrior, relying on forceful punches and teleport-assisted close combat 253 254 289.
- At 80% restored strength, his punch surprises Tony and demonstrates power comparable to Zarathos 253.
- Overwhelms Dormammu through repeated attacks that exploit the latter’s inability to hit him 260 261.
- Cannot overcome Tony’s defenses during their sparring match 254.
- Remains below Thanos in combat capability despite belonging to the same broad Supreme Tier 322.
Darkness Manipulation
Ratso uses darkness for concealment, attack, and detection of interference 279 289.
- Invisibility: Conceals himself with darkness force while preparing an ambush on Thanos 289.
- Dark Shockwave: Fires a blast into the sky to destroy a spying psychic projection 279.
- Flight: Hovers over the ocean and flies while positioning himself for an ambush 253 289.
Resurrection
Ratso’s essence is bound to Tony, preventing ordinary death from permanently ending him 279.
- Resurrects immediately after being killed by a heavy cannon powerful enough to destroy a planet 307.
- Repeatedly dies and returns under Nova bombardment, exposing the army’s resurrection ability to outside observers 309.
- Limits: Special circumstances can still threaten the Generals’ survival. Frequent battlefield resurrection also consumes energy and requires support from the Generals and Soul Realm 279 326.
Shadow Army Command
Ratso summons and leads shadow forces during the empire’s campaigns 306 309.
- Deploys the shadow army in an unsuccessful attempt to stop Star-Lord’s awakened creation power 306.
- Identifies how Nova’s persistent light-element targeting signals reveal that slain soldiers are returning, helping explain the enemy’s morale collapse 309.
- Reports territorial conquests, enemy surrender offers, and the value of converted populations to Tony 295 312.
Collective General Techniques
- Ultimate Darkness: A combined Divine Technique mastered by the Generals. Before the Nova campaign, they had not successfully used it together; Ratso recommends the Nova Capital Star as their target 300.
- Planet transportation: Participates in the eight Generals’ campaign in which halves of populated planets are teleported onto the battlefield, forcing opposing legions to surrender 312.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Ratso Mask — The trial reward worn by Norman Osborn that resurrects Ratso through fusion with its wearer 253.
- Loki’s bladed staff, borrowed — Used against Thanos after Loki adds spatial-cutting, sustained-fire, and reinforcement enchantments. Loki also buffs Ratso; the weapon’s unexpected speed contributes to the strike landing below his intended kidney target 289.
Relationships
- Tony Stark — King and commander. Ratso’s devotion deepens after witnessing Tony’s strength, but he privately resents feeling overlooked for rewards and praise 254 267 307 312.
- Norman Osborn — Host whose consciousness Ratso consumes and subordinates upon resurrection 253 279.
- Loki — Fellow General and combat supporter. Provides Ratso’s enchanted weapon and buffs against Thanos; Ratso also envies Loki’s informal relationship with Tony 289 307.
- Hyperion — Ambush partner against Thanos. Draws the enemy into Ratso’s attack and delivers the finishing kick, though Ratso later envies the praise Hyperion receives 289 307.
- Mephisto — Fellow General whom Ratso reassures about retaining a dominant host consciousness. Ratso later envies his additional demon legion 280 307.
- Dormammu — Enemy Ratso humiliates through teleport-assisted attacks. Dormammu draws his allies into the fight to escape the one-sided beating 260 261.
- Zarathos — Enemy whose Magic Chains neutralize Ratso’s usual escape method 262.
- Thanos — Stronger opponent whom Ratso helps defeat through a concealed, enchanted-weapon ambush rather than a direct contest 289 322.
