Background / History
Education and arrival at T.N. Company
Kintaro completed his law courses early but left his studies to travel, experience different jobs, and meet women. Li Tiezhu recognizes his identity and intelligence when he joins Kyoko’s company 474.
On his first day, Kyoko recognizes him as the cyclist she accidentally knocked over that morning. She had paid him one million yen in compensation, but assigns him to clean the toilets rather than immediately entrusting him with programming work. Kintaro argues that his abilities should be tested before he is judged, and Tiezhu supports giving him an opportunity 474 475.
His preparation proves misguided: he studies BASIC overnight, only to discover that the company uses C. A sexual misunderstanding of the language’s name causes him to lunge at Keiko, prompting Tiezhu to knock him down. Kyoko initially fires him, but accepts his offer to work without pay after Tiezhu recommends another chance. Kintaro resumes studying with Keiko and performs cleaning and office errands 484.
Accidents and the software crisis
After nearly falling to his death, Kintaro becomes unusually serene and detached. Tiezhu and Kyoko try to restore his familiar enthusiasm, eventually taking him to Ayako’s swimming center. His attraction to Ayako returns immediately, but distraction causes him to slip toward her; she redirects him into the pool, where his inability to swim puts him in danger 486 487 488.
Tokugawa Iemitsu rescues him and introduces himself afterward. Kintaro expresses gratitude and quickly becomes comfortable around the coach 488.
When the company’s software data is lost, Kintaro stays to help rebuild the project under Tiezhu’s guidance. He accepts Tiezhu as his “uncle” and agrees to prioritize learning over romantic pursuits. Their work helps the company meet its deadline, but Kintaro disappears before the celebration 496 497 498.
His departure is followed by a revelation: he had spent the entire million yen from Kyoko paying off an elderly bicycle repairer’s debt to loan sharks. The grateful couple’s visit changes the staff’s opinion of him, and Kyoko gives them further financial assistance 498.
Swimming center and departure from the Katsuta estate
Kintaro next works at Ayako’s swimming center without pay in exchange for swimming lessons. He specifically requests Tokugawa as his instructor and declines an opportunity to return to the company. Despite his enthusiasm, he still struggles in shallow water and needs the coach’s help 503 504.
Tokugawa’s unusually close attention attracts Naoko’s suspicion. She records their private interaction, and the system subsequently reports another change in Kintaro’s sexual orientation 505 506.
At Naoko’s birthday gathering, she takes Kintaro to her bedroom to test whether he remains attracted to women. Tiezhu secretly intervenes using clones and a transformation into Kintaro. The threatening “Kintaro” involved in the ensuing confrontation is part of this deception, while the real Kintaro loses consciousness and is later thrown outside the villa 510 511 512.
Unable to remember what happened after entering the room, Kintaro assumes Naoko deliberately rejected him. He retrieves his bicycle and leaves, unaware that both Naoko and Tokugawa are searching for him 513.
Protecting Noriko’s family
Kintaro becomes an apprentice at Golden House Handmade Noodles after encountering its injured manager. He learns noodle-making and tries to defend Tiezhu when the family turns against him during a confrontation with Hiroshi Kogure 514 515 524.
His gentle appeal for everyone to avoid premature conclusions immediately calms the dispute. Tiezhu recognizes the strength of his charm and later asks him to help expose Kogure’s deception 519 520.
During this period, Tiezhu’s Clone No. 1 pressures Kintaro to drink and subjects him to a frightening, coercive encounter in the shop’s storage room. Kintaro resists, believing the man is impersonating someone he trusts, and appears exhausted and sore the following morning. He later questions Tiezhu about the encounter; Tiezhu denies personal involvement and attributes it to a subordinate 521 522 523 533.
Despite his distress, Kintaro helps protect Noriko. Hidden inside a Horse Doll, he interrupts Kogure’s advances, then plants a microphone near Kogure’s car. The resulting recording gives Noriko direct proof of Kogure’s plan to exploit her family. Kintaro initially kneels and pleads for Kogure to leave them alone; after Kogure attempts to stomp on him and the confrontation turns violent, he joins the others in attacking him 525 526.
Further travels
Kintaro visits the Yamadera residence intending to study Buddhism, but ends up doing cleaning work. He is expelled after further inappropriate behavior involving a toilet and a bowl Noriko used, and camps on a nearby hillside 533.
He later joins a race against Reiko’s motorcycle, riding his bicycle at extraordinary speed and using a rope to swing from a power line. Watching Reiko become attracted to Tiezhu convinces him that his “uncle” has spoiled his luck and displaced him in every romantic encounter. He resolves to avoid Tiezhu 535 536.
By his last documented appearance, Kintaro is working at a movie theater. A film featuring Tiezhu and women he knows reignites his jealousy. He then flees an admirer he previously helped while working at a hospital and an older man named Xiao De, who claims to be his boyfriend. Maya confirms his location and continues monitoring his movements 543.
Appearance
- Described as handsome, including by the noodle-shop occupants and people searching for him 513 514 519.
- Wears a baseball cap; at the movie theater, he wears it backward while mopping 513 543.
- Has a muscular physique he once took pride in, though seeing Tiezhu’s body makes him feel physically inferior 487.
Personality
Kintaro is an enthusiastic learner who prefers changing environments to settling into a permanent career. He eagerly pursues programming, swimming, noodle-making, and Buddhism, accepting unpaid work when it offers an opportunity to learn. His talent contrasts with poor preparation, impulsiveness, and a tendency to leave without saying goodbye 474 484 503 504 524 533.
His attraction to women frequently overrides his judgment. Fantasies, inappropriate advances, and obsessive behavior damage his reputation and lead to dismissal or danger. He also becomes jealous of Tiezhu’s relationships and eventually blames him for his repeated misfortunes 474 484 487 533 536 543.
Beneath that behavior, Kintaro is generous and compassionate. He gives away his entire compensation payment to save a stranger’s repair shop, helps Noriko’s family, and attempts persuasion before violence even after learning Kogure’s intentions. His politeness and trust also leave him vulnerable to manipulation, particularly by Tiezhu’s clone 498 521 526.

Boundless Charm
A talent that attracts nearby people’s attention and subtly inclines them to follow the user’s words 522.
- His conciliatory speech rapidly dissolves hostility at the noodle shop 519.
- Little Black cautions that charm alone cannot reproduce Kintaro’s influence over particular people; personal compatibility and circumstances also matter 522.
The Miracle and Me
Also rendered as “Miracle with Me” and “Miracles and Me,” this talent can fulfill wishes according to the user’s conviction and mental strength 522 523 536.
- Its effect operates close to the rules themselves, according to Little Black 523.
- Overambitious use risks mental collapse or a vegetative state 536.
