Quite a few researchers had gone insane? What did that mean?
Yucas froze instinctively. Once she registered what he had said, a faint chill crept into her heart.
Jonas clearly understood the nature of psionic energy better than she did, but why would studying it drive people insane?
Yucas did not know the answer, but she still felt a trace of fear, partly of the unknown and partly from the unease instinctively rising within her.
Yet Jonas soon returned to his usual faintly smiling demeanor and said:
"There's no need to be so nervous, Miss Alec. As long as you don't try to delve too deeply into it, there's no danger. The position I've arranged for you is quite safe. Ordinarily, all you need to do is check for intruders and ensure the researchers' safety."
It sounded like a dangerous security job, but with such stringent security measures in place, the work here really was as safe as Jonas claimed.
His words did little to reassure Yucas, however. Her gaze drifted involuntarily toward the depths of the corridor, as though something there were drawing her in, leaving her both uneasy and curious.
"Would you like a tour, Miss Alec?"
Seemingly noticing her interest, Jonas smiled and asked.
At his question, Yucas hesitated for a moment before nodding and saying:
"Yes. Sorry for the trouble, Mr. Jonas."
Despite calling it a tour, Yucas did not get to see much.
Perhaps because of her position, or perhaps because of Jonas's overly cautious nature, they only visited the outer laboratories and work areas.
She did not even see a single one of the researchers he had mentioned...
Suspicions began to form in Yucas's mind, but just then, Jonas abruptly spoke:
