Rhein Daphne had no idea what other cards Jonas held. Only when she arrived in the conference room did she understand why he had agreed to her terms so readily.
She had considered all sorts of possibilities and had guessed that today's negotiations would not go smoothly.
Those included Jonas changing his mind at the last minute, her being held hostage at the Alt Conglomerate, or the Alt Conglomerate having found another partner. She had prepared for all of them.
"If anything goes wrong, press the signal transmitter in your hand immediately... I don't think Jonas Wetting has the nerve to do anything like that, but we still need to be prepared."
That was what she had told Eshuli before the negotiations began.
After making all the necessary arrangements, Rhein Daphne arrived at the Alt Conglomerate to see just what Jonas was up to.
Inside the Alt Conglomerate's conference room.
"It's been a while, Miss Rhein Daphne."
He wore the same gentle smile as always, one that made it impossible to tell what he was really thinking.
Rhein watched him in silence for two or three seconds. Unable to glean anything from his minute changes in expression, she finally replied:
"It certainly has. I still remember the promise you made three days ago, Mr. Jonas. I hope nothing unexpected happens during today's negotiations."
The implication behind Rhein's words was obvious, but Jonas smiled and spoke as though he had not noticed it.
"Of course. Today's negotiations certainly won't disappoint you, Miss Rhein."
Hearing that, Rhein Daphne could not help frowning. An uneasy premonition rose within her.
Although she had made thorough preparations before coming, Rhein Daphne still felt a little pressure.
She could not read the man before her, and that naturally stirred a trace of unease deep inside.
