Incorporated Groups
- Destiny Organization — Its surviving members are secretly absorbed into the Security Department while Alt publicly announces its eradication. Aungus receives a nominal appointment, considerable internal autonomy, and limited resources 198 199.
- Star of Dawn — Becomes bound to Alt after its defeat. Beigong Ling later negotiates broad autonomy within the conglomerate in exchange for sharing deciphered Predecessor Civilization knowledge 280 285 286.
- Captured Void Realm Church Psionics — Are imprisoned or transferred to research. Jonas initially preserves Holy Adjudicators as valuable subjects rather than attempting to recruit them 212 286.
- Bonecrusher Gang — Its territory is taken over, Alt personnel pose as gang members, and Rake remains as an undercover leader reporting on the gang’s hidden sponsors 585.
Businesses and Technology
Chips and Healthcare
- Chips and healthcare are Alt’s main businesses before its virtual-reality breakthrough 291.
- Its physical-enhancement drug attracts the Arbitration Bureau’s attention and becomes the subject of a proposed collaboration with Senna Life 182 221.
- Alt’s nanorobots can rapidly repair serious injuries and support District 25’s troops during the Federation war 532.
- Jonas plans to develop a cure for Hotspot Syndrome to support recruitment and population growth in the Alt District. The cure remains a development objective, not an established product 332.
Virtual Reality
- The project originates from Beigong Ling’s Predecessor Civilization records; Jonas prioritizes it over advanced weapons and mind-linking technology because he considers it achievable and commercially useful 288.
- Kyudai Li leads development, initially working alone and becoming exhausted before resolving to request additional researchers 300.
- Senna Life agrees to distribute the technology and include it in Senna Medical’s Platinum Member experiences. Most other partnership terms favor Alt 315.
- The product’s extraordinary early sales relieve financial pressure and strengthen the conglomerate’s influence over District 25 339.
- Shared interests in virtual reality provide the foundation for the corporate alliance later adapted to resist Federation invasion 401.
Predecessor Civilization Research
- Beigong Ling supplies deciphered records under an agreement covering both current and future discoveries 286.
- She nevertheless withholds important material, including foundational weapons technologies, because she fears Alt’s unchecked growth and wants to protect the Star of Dawn 332.
- Alt also conducts its own archaeological expeditions. Records recovered from underground ruins reveal the Ascension ritual and the Forerunner Project’s intended use of successors as potential hosts 549.
Military and Intelligence Capabilities
Tactical Mecha and Armed Security
- The Security Department uses the latest generation of weaponry and is already described as a high-end fighting force during the first Church conflict 200.
- By the three-squad stage, Alt’s overt Mecha forces are supplemented by former rebel organizations, a Church Judgment Executor, and several Title-Class individuals around Jonas 300.
- Its Fourth-Generation Tactical Mecha achieve an output of 4457 WP. Their mass-production technology is more reliable than the Federation’s reported fourth-generation production capability 404.
- Eiffel expands manufacturing capacity by offering Santa Technologies valuable nanomolecular technology in exchange for converting its factories to Mecha production 412.
- Esnie, the Black Valkyrie, functions as a strategic-level combat asset. Her intervention reverses the deteriorating defense during a Star of Dawn assault 202 267.
Cybersecurity and Surveillance
- Eiffel’s early investigations collect Psionic candidates’ physical conditions, personalities, employment histories, and family details before recruitment 153.
- Headquarters surveillance includes ceiling-mounted drone-like devices with high-definition cameras and infrared detectors 357.
- Iris can block communications around headquarters as part of Jonas’s defensive preparations 283.
- By the Dragon City negotiations, Alt’s intelligence network covers District 25’s political movements, underground transactions, and ordinary residents. It assembles detailed files on every Skull Gang member in less than ten minutes 577.
Public Opinion and Information Warfare
- Alt amplifies authentic footage and testimony of Void Realm Church abuses, coupling public condemnation with sanctions to prepare support for confrontation 192.
- It publicly presents the Destiny Organization’s absorption as a successful eradication campaign, concealing the survival of its members inside Alt 198.
- Jonas uses supplier incentives, market disruption, attacks on Federation supply lines, and propaganda aimed at enemy soldiers as complementary wartime tools 505.
- During the Skull Gang operation, Alt suppresses reporting for hours, then releases verified criminal and Federation-collaboration evidence. Its announcement spreads throughout District 25 within ten minutes 577.
History
Wetting Subsidiary and Independence
Alt begins as a Wetting Conglomerate subsidiary. During the Alt District riot, Ston plans to seize its branch building with Tayne Consortium tactical suits and deployment information supplied by the anonymous “K.” Jonas fortifies the branch and prepares an ambush rather than surrendering the initiative 6.
The branch later becomes the site of discussions following Wetting’s destruction of the Destiny Organization’s Fourth Special Operations Team. Although Wetting wins the engagement, the organization’s numerous bases and corporate connections prevent an immediate campaign of total eradication 27.
Jonas subsequently uses an Arbitration Bureau ruling to secure substantial damages from Wetting for Alt. The ruling formalizes their separation and advances his plan to make Alt the true successor to Wetting, rather than remain subordinate to its board 145.
Early Psionic Recruitment
After the Psionic awakening incident, Jonas orders Aberrant data stored in Alt’s database rather than Wetting Medical’s. Private self-testing gives him information about newly awakened Psionics before most rival conglomerates recognize their existence 152.
Alt’s first experimental recruitment round selects roughly seven comparatively less-threatening candidates. Jonas regards them as expendable resources and does not intend to give them access to the company’s inner circle. Eiffel warns that their loyalty cannot be guaranteed; conventional forced-enslavement chips are ineffective because Psionics can easily remove them 153.
Destruction and Absorption of the Destiny Organization
While publicly confronting the Void Realm Church, Alt unexpectedly attacks the Destiny Organization with two Tactical Mecha squads. More than half its bases fall in two nights, destroying Aungus’s hope that Jonas would be too occupied to settle their conflict 196.
Footage of the Star of Dawn’s purge of former Destiny members, recorded by Jonas’s mole, makes that alternative appear equally dangerous. Aungus persuades the remaining members to surrender to Alt. Their incorporation is concealed behind public claims that the organization has been eradicated 198.
The former rebels retain limited autonomy, and Alt settles many members’ families. Over time, Aungus accepts that incorporation provides safety his independent organization could no longer guarantee 199 256.
Conflicts with the Void Realm Church and Star of Dawn
Alt’s first war with the Void Realm Church exposes how much strength it has concealed. The capture of the Church’s Holy Adjudicators forces Afanisi to revise her assessment of the supposedly lower-middle-tier conglomerate 204 205.
Afanisi escalates by destroying Skat District with the Black Ring. Jonas studies the attack’s preparation time before confronting her, and the ensuing conflict ends with the Church withdrawing. He nevertheless rejects the assumption that its retreat has permanently removed the threat 206 210 211.
The Star of Dawn later raids Alt headquarters and abducts Iris, damaging security installations before withdrawing within twenty minutes. Jonas orders retaliation, and Alt’s pursuit extends across two major districts. Subsequent fighting ends with the Star of Dawn effectively defeated and brought under Alt’s influence 229 249 280.
Afanisi’s next attempt uses diversionary territorial raids and statue-based teleportation to reach Jonas at headquarters. Jonas anticipates the diversion, while mechanical troops, Nightingale, and Yucas delay the attackers. Afterward, Afanisi is unconscious and captured Church Psionics are imprisoned or transferred to research 283 286.
Wetting Takeover and Commercial Expansion
An assassination attempt at Alt’s virtual-reality launch becomes the pretext for investigating the Wetting board. Yucas arrests several directors, but the following chapter reveals that Jonas fabricated the evidence used to force the board’s compliance 318 319.
Jonas compels the directors to sell their shares, and Wetting officially merges into Alt. The deal remains secret from the public, greatly increases Alt’s resources, and leaves operational problems from the abrupt takeover 319.
Alt then recruits Huacheng arrivals to address staffing shortages. Jonas hires Bill Owen primarily for his influence among the displaced community and gives him a platinum medical card, securing his personal commitment. Meanwhile, booming virtual-reality sales push controversy over Alt’s treatment of Huacheng people out of public attention 338 339.
District 25 Alliance and Federation War
Facing Federation invasion, Jonas converts the shared-interest alliance around virtual reality into a resistance coalition. Revealing Fourth-Generation Tactical Mecha mass production establishes Alt’s right to lead it and prompts Carol to announce the Arbitration Bureau’s allegiance to Jonas 401 404.
Jonas later offers the Bureau support and noninterference in exchange for stronger protection of District 25, particularly Alt’s property. Privately, he intends those duties to draw the Bureau into conflict with Federation operatives and make it increasingly dependent on Alt 460.
During open war, District 25 combines Mecha, armored vehicles, fighter jets, generous payments, advanced medical support, drones, and hacking. Jonas’s stated objective is not to destroy or rename the Federation, but to bring it under Alt’s control 505 532.
Predecessor Threat and Regional Control
Alt’s archaeological discoveries reveal that the Predecessor Civilization’s technological legacy carries an existential danger: Ascension requires the sacrifice of a civilization, while the Forerunner Project prepares potential hosts for surviving Predecessors. Jonas concludes that their aims are incompatible with humanity’s survival 549.
After learning that the entity Consciousness has taken over Dorothy, Jonas orders Celine and Afanisi to prepare Alt for the Federation’s next operation 550 561.
In negotiations with Dragon City’s Ji Yeling, Jonas demonstrates Alt’s stability through intelligence gathering, Peacekeeping Forces cooperation, and tightly controlled reporting of the Skull Gang’s defeat. Later, Alt takes over the Bonecrusher Gang’s territory and turns its leader into an informant to investigate hidden opposition 577 585.
External Relationships
- Wetting Conglomerate — Former parent company and source of Jonas’s inheritance dispute. Its board attempts to recover Alt before Jonas instead absorbs Wetting through a coerced share sale 318 319.
- Nathen Conglomerate / Chelsea Claudi — Corporate ally that helps pressure Wetting. Alt’s growth eventually makes their existing favorable cooperation terms unsustainable for Nathen; Jonas proposes replacing them with a share of virtual-reality profits 182 319.
- Senna Life / Rhein — Alternates between commercial partner and adversary. Cooperation develops around pharmaceuticals and virtual reality, followed by reconciliation during the formation of District 25’s resistance alliance 221 225 248 315 408.
- Arbitration Bureau / Carol — An uneasy partner concerned about Alt becoming too powerful. Its later allegiance and security agreement serve institutional survival, while Jonas seeks to deepen its dependence on Alt 296 404 460.
- Peacekeeping Forces / Yucas — A separate institution influenced through Jonas’s connections, not directly commanded by Alt. Jonas’s support helps its Conservatives control nearly three-fifths of the organization 430 577.
- Void Realm Church — Repeated military and ideological opponent. Defeating Afanisi’s faction does not end the danger posed by other Church factions and their competing religious objectives 211 296 297 304.
- Federation — Military opponent that attempts to undermine District 25’s alliance through bribery, threats, asset confiscation, and covert operatives 412 460 532.
- Dragon City / Ji Yeling — Prospective regional partner. Ji requires proof of Alt’s durable authority before committing; Jonas’s demonstration impresses her, but the final terms remain unresolved in the provided account 577.
Limitations and Controversies
- War sustainability: At the three-squad stage, Alt has sufficient raw force to defeat major conglomerates but lacks the reserves for prolonged corporate war. Its earlier wars generally end within three to five days 300.
- Specialist shortages: Virtual-reality development initially suffers from scarce researchers, difficult recruitment, and uncertainty over whether hired specialists can reproduce the supplied blueprints 291 300.
- Integration problems: Absorbing former rebels creates identity, management, and supply issues; the Wetting takeover adds further operational disorder 198 319.
- Internal betrayal: Rapid expansion produces conspirators within the company, prompting Jonas to order Nora to handle them 350.
- Psionic vulnerability: Tactical Mecha do not guarantee victory against the Federation’s comparable machines and elite Psionics. Jonas therefore treats Alt’s own Psionics as a scarce strategic resource 408 430.
- Unequal recruitment choices: Huacheng recruits fear being used as pawns, while Hotspot Syndrome and concern for their children leave some with few alternatives to joining Alt 338.
- Contested public image: Alt gains praise for ending rebel violence, but Slum residents and criminals resent its pressure and accuse it of exploitation. Its extensive media control allows it to shape which incidents become public 198 577 585.
- Coercive consolidation: The Wetting takeover relies on fabricated evidence and threatened investigations; the Bonecrusher Gang’s incorporation gives Rake a choice between submission and death 319 585.
