B-Beigong Ling?
Information about her surfaced in Iris's mind. Her body stiffened, and a trace of fear rose within her.
Of course she knew that this woman led a faction opposed to Mr. Jonas. After all, many plans targeting the Star of Dawn had succeeded thanks to Miss Iris's efforts.
One moment, she had been slumped over in the office; the next, she was here.
Vague memories of flames and noise surfaced. Just as Iris seemed to recall something, the woman before her spoke:
"You may not know me, Miss Iris... but please believe that I mean you no harm."
The girl had never experienced anything like this before, and she could not help feeling somewhat panicked.
At those words, countless possibilities immediately sprang to Iris's mind, and her gaze grew more hostile.
Seeming to notice what she was thinking, Beigong Ling pursed her lips before speaking:
"It seems you've heard my name, Miss Iris..."
As she spoke, she leaned back in her chair and crossed her legs.
"Then do you know where you are, Miss Iris?"
The surroundings were dim, but Iris could just make out that this was a hastily established base. She bit her lip, unwilling to answer.
In truth, she was not particularly worried about her own situation... What concerned her more was whether she would become a burden to Mr. Jonas. The thought that Beigong Ling might use her as a hostage to force Jonas into making concessions filled Iris with guilt.
If only I had been more careful, she wouldn't have captured me to use as a bargaining chip.
Naturally, Beigong Ling had no idea what she was thinking.
When Iris remained silent, she assumed that Jonas's prolonged abuse had made the girl withdrawn, and felt even more pity for her.
